Defensive coordinator Dennis Allen on backup LBs: Bears 'counting on everybody in this room'

Bears' Defensive Coordinator Dennis Allen on Backup Linebackers: 'We're Counting on Everybody in This Room'

Defensive coordinator Dennis Allen is emphasizing the importance of every player contributing to the Chicago Bears' defense. Speaking about the team's depth at linebacker, Allen made it clear that he relies on all his players.

The lack of injuries has helped Allen keep all of his linebackers healthy enough to participate in practice. Despite this, there are several key players missing from Tuesday's estimated injury report due to various ailments.

Allen mentioned that backup linebacker D'Marco Jackson is well-prepared for his upcoming start at middle linebacker. The defensive coordinator believes it takes more than one week of preparation to be ready for the role and stated that he has been around Jackson long enough to know how hard he works during games.

Meanwhile, the Bears are facing a crucial test this Friday against the Eagles. Several linebackers listed as non-participants on Tuesday's injury report include T.J. Edwards (hand, hamstring), Noah Sewell (elbow), Ruben Hyppolite II (shoulder), and Amen Ogbongbemiga (hamstring).

Ogbongbemiga had a significant impact against the Steelers last week when he stepped in for Hyppolite, producing a lot of production. Allen believes that's what they are trying to build here – a team where every player feels accountable to each other.

Allen also highlighted that this philosophy applies to the cornerbacks. Tyrique Stevenson is currently listed as a non-participant due to an injured hip but could return from injury reserve by Friday, potentially opening up opportunities for Jaylon Johnson (groin) or Kyler Gordon (calf).

Additionally, Nahshon Wright will continue to play despite some concerns about his role in the Bears' defense. Al Harris emphasizes that they need their best 11 players on the field and praises Wright as one of their best.

The upcoming game against the Eagles is crucial for both teams. The Sun-Times' experts predict a close matchup, which will see significant player contributions from all positions.

On another note, quarterback Caleb Williams has been discussing his conversation with Jalen Hurts prior to his current stint with the Bears. The two players first met during their college days at Oklahoma and have shared words of encouragement on how Williams should make the most out of his opportunity as a Black quarterback in the NFL.

The upcoming game against the Eagles may test Williams' accuracy, which was a concern after he struggled Sunday against the Steelers.

Dude I'm getting hyped for this game tho 🤩 The Bears need every single player to step up if they wanna beat the Eagles. It's like Dennis Allen is saying we gotta count on everyone in that room 🤝 and I'm all about it, I love the depth they've got at linebacker. D'Marco Jackson seems ready for his big moment middle linebacker role 🕰️, he's been putting in work and Allen trusts him to get it done. And yeah, Tyrique Stevenson is a mystery, hopefully he comes back from injury without messing up his game 🤞. Caleb Williams needs to bounce back from that rough Sunday against the Steelers, I'm rooting for him, the dude's got heart 💪. Bring it on, let's see some solid football this Friday! 🏈

🤔 so I'm watching this football game and the coach is saying that everyone needs to step up their game. Like, if one guy is hurt, another guy needs to be ready to go in his place 🙌. It's cool that the team has a lot of depth at linebacker, but now some guys are missing practice due to injuries. Hopefully they can all come back for the big game against Philly on Friday 🏈. The coach seems confident in backup linebacker D'Marco Jackson, which is good since he's gonna start at middle linebacker. And it's awesome that the cornerbacks are getting a chance to show off their skills too 👍

omg i feel like this is so relatable lol imagine if our team's coach was saying that every player needs to step up their game 🤯 it would be crazy! but seriously, i think it's great that the Bears are emphasizing teamwork and everyone contributing. it's kinda like how our school's football team has to work together if they wanna win a match 💪 and it sounds like Coach Allen is trying to create that same vibe on the field. btw, i hope Tyrique Stevenson gets back from his injury soon because it would be awesome to see him play 🤞

I'm thinking... we got these backups stepping up! 🤔
So like Dennis Allen is saying, every player matters. No one can be left behind when it comes to winning games.
Even if some players are hurt or out, others gotta step in and show what they're made of. That's the beauty of having a deep squad.
D'Marco Jackson seems ready for his middle linebacker gig 🤞
And backup cornerbacks Tyrique Stevenson & Jaylon Johnson could get back into action soon 💪
It's all about accountability, you know? Every player feels like they gotta help their team win. That's what it's all about! 👍
