Detroit City Councilwoman Mary Waters has fired her community liaison, Reggie Davis, after an investigation revealed that he and former council president Charles Pugh posed as incoming staff for the Ombudsman's Office while Davis was seeking a $197,000-a-year job.
The investigation found that Davis had identified himself as part of the incoming team during two phone calls and a video meeting with WingSwept, a contractor that supplies software to the Ombudsman's Office. Pugh was also present in at least one call and introduced himself as Davis' chief of staff. The contractor initially believed they were part of the incoming staff but eventually ceased communications after being instructed by the actual Ombudsman's office.
The Ombudsman's Office is an independent entity that investigates complaints about Detroit city services and employee conduct. Davis was among ten finalists for a position in the office, which requires approval from two-thirds of the City Council.
Davis' attorney claimed that his client had sought only publicly available information and had described himself as part of the incoming team "imprecisely." However, the Office of Inspector General found that Davis had abused his position by using his title to improperly access information and presented himself falsely as part of the incoming team.

. And to make matters worse, Charles Pugh is still lurking around with some shady past... I mean, five years in prison on child sex-crime convictions? That's some serious baggage 
. And what really gets my goat is how this all came down - Davis was basically playing both sides and pretending to be part of the Ombudsman's Office team just to get ahead 
. Now that he's out, I hope they can clean up the mess and show us that there are still some decent folks in city hall 
. But seriously, how many more skeletons come out of the closet before this council can say they're above reproach? 
. and then there's Pugh, a convicted sex offender, who's now somehow involved in this whole mess? it's just disturbing to see how two people with questionable histories ended up in positions of power.
. and honestly, i'm not sure what's more concerning - Davis' actions or the fact that Pugh's name is even still associated with this scandal? both are major red flags

. The fact that he got caught posing as part of the Ombudsman's office is just the tip of the iceberg

... I mean, how does this even happen? A community liaison getting fired for trying to scam his way into a good job is just crazy. It's like, come on Reggie, be honest and transparent if you're gonna apply for the job 
. I'm not surprised though, this guy had a history of controversy too. The City Council needs to get its act together and make sure this kind of thing doesn't happen again. Transparency is key!

this whole thing just feels like a messy web of power and corruption... i mean, think about it - someone gets caught playing both sides, using their supposed position to get ahead, and now the city council's integrity is called into question...
