DeVon-tails Smith and 8 other dogs from Philly-area shelters are competing in the Puppy Bowl

Paws for Pride as Philly's Best Pups Take the Field at the Puppy Bowl

Philadelphia, PA - In a celebration of furry friends and community spirit, 9 dogs from local shelters are gearing up to compete in this year's Puppy Bowl. The annual television event, which takes place on February 8th, aims to entertain viewers while promoting pet adoption.

Among the talented canine athletes is Cricket, an American Pitbull Terrier mix with a heart defect who wowed viewers at the Puppy Bowl with his spirit and resilience. Adopted by a family just in time for filming, Cricket has already found his forever home and will be competing alongside his brother Grasshopper, also known as Dex.

Other Philly-area pups taking to the field include Finch, renamed Lucky, a Beagle who loves playing fetch; Jill, an affectionate Cavalier King Charles Spaniel; Lin, a 7-month-old pup with an unknown breed mix; Oscar, a lively mini poodle living in a chaotic household; Shirley, a black puppy rescued from flash floods in Texas; Teddy, a clever Akita/Husky competing in his first Puppy Bowl; and DeVon-tails Smith, also known as Koda, an Akita-Husky who's been adopted after his stay at Providence Animal Shelter.

The dogs will be participating in the Puppy Bowl with teams Fluff and Ruff, showcasing their skills in a fun-filled competition that aims to raise awareness about animal shelters. When they're not competing, these adorable athletes are already enjoying their new lives in foster homes or forever families, grateful for a second chance at happiness.

Get ready to cheer on your favorite pups on Super Bowl Sunday when the Puppy Bowl airs on Animal Planet, HBO Max, Discovery, TBS, truTV, and discovery+. Who will be crowned the ultimate Puppy Bowl champion?

I'm telling ya, these dogs are gonna crush it at the Puppy Bowl! Cricket's got this, I can feel it. I mean, adopting him just in time for filming is a total win-win โ€“ his forever family gets an amazing pup, and he gets to show off his skills on national TV! ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ’ช And can we talk about Shirley's story? Flash floods in Texas? That poor thing needs a medal, not just a trophy. I'm so happy she got adopted by some awesome humans who'll give her the love she deserves.

And let's be real, these dogs are already winners just for being part of the Puppy Bowl. It's amazing how an event like this can bring attention to animal shelters and promote adoption. So, whether your favorite pup wins or loses, it's all about spreading joy and giving those adorable fur babies a second chance at life. Bring on the Puppy Bowl! ๐ŸŽ‰

OMG ๐Ÿคฉ๐Ÿพ I'm low-key obsessed with this year's Puppy Bowl lineup! The Philly pups are gonna slay the field ๐Ÿˆ๐Ÿ’ช Cricket, with his heart condition, is my ultimate underdog inspiration ๐ŸŒŸ. I love that he found a forever home just in time for filming - all those cute, fluffy faces deserve all the snuggles and treats ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿฐ

Ugh, can we please take a step back from all this puppy bowl nonsense? ๐Ÿ•๐Ÿ˜’ I mean, don't get me wrong, these dogs are cute and all, but have you seen how much money they're making off of this whole thing? The production company must be raking it in. And let's not forget the 'awareness' angle - is this really raising awareness about animal shelters or is it just a marketing ploy to sell more dog food and toys? ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ“บ I'm all for supporting our furry friends, but can't we think of some other way to do that? Like, I don't know, donating directly to the shelter or something? ๐Ÿค‘๐Ÿ’ธ

I love how this year's Puppy Bowl is gonna bring so much joy & awareness for animal shelters ๐Ÿพโค๏ธ. It's awesome that these pups from Philly are getting a chance to shine on TV!
