Disaster declared as NSW firefighters continue to battle 20 uncontained bushfires

New South Wales is bracing for a devastating bushfire season, with over 20 fires currently burning uncontained. The NSW government has declared a natural disaster in several areas, including the Central Coast and Mid North Coast, due to the severe conditions.

The situation is dire, with multiple homes destroyed or damaged by flames, including more than 12 at Koolewong and four at Bulahdelah. Authorities are urging residents to prepare for strong winds on Sunday, which could exacerbate the situation.

Firefighters are doing their best to contain the blazes, but the outlook remains grim. "We're not out of the woods yet," said Rural Fire Service deputy commissioner Ben Millington, warning that the southerly change forecasted for Sunday morning could bring more challenging conditions.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has warned that this summer's bushfire season will be particularly difficult, citing pre-existing conditions in New South Wales. While no loss of life has been reported so far, authorities are on high alert and urging caution.

The damage assessment is ongoing, with teams from NSW Police and the RFS working to determine the cause of the fires. Federal and state disaster assistance funding has been activated for affected areas, providing support for residents, businesses, primary producers, and councils.

As the situation unfolds, experts warn that unfavourable winds could persist for several hours on Sunday, making it a treacherous day for firefighters. Cooler conditions are forecasted to follow, but the damage is already being felt across NSW.

I'm worried about these bushfires in New South Wales 🌳😬. It's not just the homes that are getting destroyed, but also the mental health of all those people who've lost everything πŸ˜”. I mean, have you seen the videos of the flames engulfing Koolewong? It's like something out of a horror movie πŸŽƒ! The government should be doing more to prevent these fires or at least prepare residents better for disasters like this. I'm not saying they're not trying, but it feels like we're always playing catch-up when it comes to natural disasters. We need to do more to support our firefighters and those who've lost their homes πŸš’πŸ’•.

omg what's going on with nsw 🀯 20 fires burning outta control and the gov's declaring disasters everywhere 😬 got friends living in koolewong and bulahdelah and they're literally shaking πŸ’€ like how much more can this state take 🌳 i feel so bad for everyone affected, hope firefighters get a handle on things soon ⏰ these southerly winds are gonna be WILD πŸ’¨ fingers crossed the rain comes soon to put out the fires πŸ˜…

omg, this bushfire season in new south wales is looking super scary! 🌑️😱 20 fires burning out of control? that's like, whoa... authorities need to step up their game ASAP, firefighters are doing their best but it's not looking good. winds on sunday could make things even worse... like, what can go wrong?! 😨 anyway, gotta stay tuned and hope for the best! 🀞

Ugh, bushfires in Australia are getting out of hand 🀯! I mean, 20 fires burning uncontrollably? That's just crazy. And with multiple homes destroyed... poor people losing everything. The gov should be doing more to prevent this πŸ™„. They're activating disaster funding and all, but it's about time, not like that's gonna make a huge difference when the damage is already done πŸ’Έ. And don't even get me started on the southerly change forecasted for Sunday... just great, just what we need more bad weather 😩.

Ugh, bushfire season is literally worst πŸ€―πŸ’¨... NSW is getting hammered this year and I'm so worried about those poor people losing their homes 🏠πŸ”₯. Like, 20 fires burning at once? That's crazy! πŸ”ͺ️πŸ’₯ The wind on Sunday could make things even worse, which is super concerning for the firefighters πŸ’”. We need some rain already, please β˜€οΈπŸ˜©... The government is doing what they can to help, but it's hard to see when you're living in the midst of all this chaos πŸ˜•. Can we get some relief soon? 🀞

The bushfire season in NSW - just another example of how climate change is playing out in real life 🌑️πŸ”₯. I mean, we're talking about a state that's still recovering from the last devastating fires, and now we're bracing for another round? It's like the state government is asking for trouble by not taking proactive measures to address these issues.

And let's talk about the PM's warning - was it enough? Shouldn't he be taking more concrete steps to prepare NSW for this disaster? I mean, the southerly change forecasted for Sunday morning could bring even more chaos... we need to think about the long-term impact on our infrastructure and communities. The fact that experts are saying unfavourable winds could persist for several hours is just a ticking time bomb πŸ•°οΈ.

We need to have a serious conversation about how we're handling disaster preparedness and response in this state. Can we really rely on federal and state funding alone to get us through these tough times? It's time for some hard questions to be asked and some real solutions to be put forward πŸ’‘

πŸ”₯😬 It's like the news keeps getting worse and worse... can't believe how many fires are going on right now 🀯! 20+ uncontained fires? That's crazy talk! πŸš’ I feel so bad for all those people who lost their homes or had them damaged by the flames. The situation does seem dire, especially with those strong winds coming up on Sunday... hope the firefighters can keep everything under control ⚠️. And what's with this southerly change forecast? 😩 Not sure if it's going to make things better or worse πŸ€”. Still praying for everyone affected πŸ’•

omg can't believe the state of nsw rn these bushfires are getting worse by the minute gotta feel so bad 4 those homes & families affected πŸ€•πŸ’” hope the fireies can get everything under control ASAP but sounds like it's gonna be a tough day sunday β›ˆοΈπŸ˜¬ got my fingers crossed for koolewong tho, that place is literally on fire πŸŒ‘οΈπŸš’

also kinda worried about the wind forecast, those strong gusts are no joke πŸŒͺοΈπŸ’¨ gotta give props 2 ben millington for being honest though, "we're not out of the woods yet" 🀯 sounds like we need to get prepared ASAP πŸ’₯

anywayz, total luck to nsw rn πŸ€πŸ”₯ hope everyone stays safe & gets through this terrible situation πŸ’•

.. this bushfire season is just another example of how our environment is suffering 🌳πŸ”₯. I mean, think about it, Australia's always had issues with wildfires, and now it's getting worse. It's like we're not taking care of our planet properly.

I'm worried about the impact on rural communities too. All that destruction and displacement... it's a lot to handle for people who are already struggling. We need more support from the government, I think. Not just in terms of money, but also in terms of resources and infrastructure.

And what's with the southerly change? Can't we anticipate these kinds of weather patterns better? It feels like we're not doing enough to prepare for extreme weather events. The Prime Minister's warning that this summer will be particularly difficult... it's like he's saying, "We knew this was coming". πŸŒͺ️

πŸ”₯🌳 man this bushfire season in nsw is getting crazy like 2005 all over again remember those flames? 🀯 been through it and still get chills thinking about it... what's with the weather nowadays? one day it's sunny, next day it's inferno πŸ”ͺ these firefighters are the real heroes, can't imagine what they're going through out there... hope some relief comes soon πŸ™

Ugh, this is getting out of hand 🌳😩. Can't believe they're still having these devastating fires in Australia. Like, we get it, nature can be harsh, but come on! πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ At least the government's activated that disaster funding, that's a good start πŸ’Έ. Firefighters are putting their lives on the line over there, hope they get some support πŸ˜”. And can someone please tell me why these fires keep happening again and again? Like, we should've learned from last time πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ. Anyway, fingers crossed for those affected, hope it doesn't get too worse πŸ’•.

πŸ˜’ 20+ fires burning out of control in NSW? This isn't new, mate... we've been hearing about this for years. Pre-existing conditions and all that jazz. But you know what's not getting enough attention? The fact that our emergency services are still underfunded πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ. I mean, these firefighters are doing their best out there, but they deserve better equipment, better training... it's just basic human decency at this point πŸ’”.

And don't even get me started on the wind forecasts πŸ˜’. We're supposed to believe that a southerly change is going to be super dramatic? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ I mean, come on. This isn't some sci-fi movie where you need a weatherman with a magic crystal ball to predict what's gonna happen next πŸŽ₯.

Look, I'm all for supporting the troops and whatnot, but we gotta be realistic here πŸ’Έ. The damage is already done... literally. And then there's just this whole "we're not out of the woods yet" vibe 🌳. Can't we have a bit of positivity? πŸ”œ

🌳😬 gotta feel so bad for those ppl in NSW right now. like 20 fires burning outta control? that's crazy! i hope all the firefighters doin their thing can keep up with the situation... but honestly, it sounds like things are only gonna get worse on sunday 🀯 strong winds and more challenging conditions? no thanks! at least the gov's declared a natural disaster in some areas so ppl know they're gettin help πŸ™ fingers crossed for everyone affected πŸŒ»πŸ’•
