Discord faces backlash over age checks after data breach exposed 70,000 IDs

I mean, I get where Discord is coming from, but come on... 70,000 government IDs exposed in a data breach? That's like, major red flag, you know? 🚨 And now they wanna rely on AI tech that's still unproven for something as sensitive as age verification? It just doesn't sit right with me.

I mean, what if the selfie data gets compromised somehow? Or what if Privately's facial age estimation tool is way off? I don't want my 17-year-old self being flagged as an adult on some random day and having to deal with the drama that comes with it 🤷‍♂️.

And can we talk about the fact that companies like Discord are just trying to avoid lawsuits, but they're not really prioritizing user security? That's just wrong. I'd rather pay them a million bucks to ensure my personal info stays safe than have some sketchy age verification system in place 🤑.

I don't know, man... I'm just concerned about the potential risks here. Can't we just stick with good old-fashioned human verification or something? 😒

I'm still trying to wrap my head around this 🤔. I get why Discord wants to take steps to ensure adult content isn't being accessed by minors, but the way they're going about it is kinda sketchy 😒. All these concerns about data collection and security are valid, especially after that recent breach of 70k government IDs. It's one thing to trust a company with sensitive info when you know they're doing it responsibly, but when there are so many questions around their tech 🤖, I'm not sure even the AI-powered age verification can be trusted.

And what about those selfie data claims? Even if it is deleted after verification, do we really want our faces being scanned in the first place? It's all about finding that middle ground and making sure users feel safe online, you know? 🤝
