Local restaurant cleared to reopen after viral video sparks outrage, customers express disgust.
A viral video showing an employee slamming a slab of ribs onto the ground at PhoLove in Milpitas has left many people feeling disgusted and upset. The incident, which has been widely shared on social media, not only raised concerns about the cleanliness and safety of the restaurant but also sparked debate about cultural sensitivity and respect for Vietnamese cuisine.
"I kind of was disgusted in what I saw," said Sarah Do, a customer who witnessed the video. "Even my parents, they're not on social media and they saw the video and said, 'can you believe this'? As a Vietnamese person, it kind of makes me upset that this is the way that people may view Vietnamese cuisine in general."
The initial inspection by local authorities revealed other serious violations, including cockroaches and inadequate sanitizing techniques. However, after taking corrective action, PhoLove was cleared to reopen.
"We are still working with them on a number of other issues, but they are in business, operating safely," said Environmental Health Director Dr. Marilyn C. Underwood. "The most important person at any food facility is the person in charge, who under state law is responsible for making sure food is being prepared safely."
Despite steps taken to address these concerns, many customers remain skeptical about PhoLove's ability to provide safe and healthy dining experiences.
While the restaurant's owner Uyen Tran acknowledged that he understands the outrage and was "still in shock" by what happened, some questions still linger. What measures will be implemented to prevent such incidents from occurring again? How will PhoLove restore its reputation in the community?
A follow-up inspection is scheduled to ensure that PhoLove meets all safety and health standards, and a new video may provide further insight into the restaurant's progress.
In the meantime, some people are taking matters into their own hands. "I'm going to make sure to share my experience with everyone I know," said Do. "It's time for people to hold these restaurants accountable for their actions."
The incident has sparked a broader conversation about food safety and cultural sensitivity, highlighting the need for greater awareness and accountability in the culinary industry.
