'Disgusted': Customers react after Milpitas restaurant's meat-slamming video goes viral

Local restaurant cleared to reopen after viral video sparks outrage, customers express disgust.

A viral video showing an employee slamming a slab of ribs onto the ground at PhoLove in Milpitas has left many people feeling disgusted and upset. The incident, which has been widely shared on social media, not only raised concerns about the cleanliness and safety of the restaurant but also sparked debate about cultural sensitivity and respect for Vietnamese cuisine.

"I kind of was disgusted in what I saw," said Sarah Do, a customer who witnessed the video. "Even my parents, they're not on social media and they saw the video and said, 'can you believe this'? As a Vietnamese person, it kind of makes me upset that this is the way that people may view Vietnamese cuisine in general."

The initial inspection by local authorities revealed other serious violations, including cockroaches and inadequate sanitizing techniques. However, after taking corrective action, PhoLove was cleared to reopen.

"We are still working with them on a number of other issues, but they are in business, operating safely," said Environmental Health Director Dr. Marilyn C. Underwood. "The most important person at any food facility is the person in charge, who under state law is responsible for making sure food is being prepared safely."

Despite steps taken to address these concerns, many customers remain skeptical about PhoLove's ability to provide safe and healthy dining experiences.

While the restaurant's owner Uyen Tran acknowledged that he understands the outrage and was "still in shock" by what happened, some questions still linger. What measures will be implemented to prevent such incidents from occurring again? How will PhoLove restore its reputation in the community?

A follow-up inspection is scheduled to ensure that PhoLove meets all safety and health standards, and a new video may provide further insight into the restaurant's progress.

In the meantime, some people are taking matters into their own hands. "I'm going to make sure to share my experience with everyone I know," said Do. "It's time for people to hold these restaurants accountable for their actions."

The incident has sparked a broader conversation about food safety and cultural sensitivity, highlighting the need for greater awareness and accountability in the culinary industry.

I'm really disappointed in PhoLove's initial reaction ๐Ÿค•. It's not just about one employee's mistake, it's about the whole restaurant's culture and commitment to customer safety and respect for their community ๐ŸŒŽ. I mean, who slams food on the ground? That's just gross ๐Ÿ˜ท. The fact that they were able to reopen after a single video going viral is not exactly reassuring... I hope they take concrete steps to fix these issues, like employee training and stricter sanitizing protocols ๐Ÿ“.

just watched that video of ribs being slammed on the ground ๐Ÿคข๐Ÿ˜ท at PhoLove in Milpitas... it's super sad that this happened to a vietnamese-owned restaurant. i think they're taking the right steps by addressing these issues, but we should also be thinking about what led up to this incident in the first place? was there a lack of training for staff? or maybe some underlying cultural differences that were misinterpreted? ๐Ÿค” anyway, i'm glad they're being transparent and making changes. but it's clear that rebuilding trust with customers won't happen overnight ๐Ÿ’ฏ

idk what's more cringeworthy, the fact that someone thought it was okay to slam ribs on the floor or the fact that this video went viral ๐Ÿคฃ. like, come on guys, you can't handle a little bit of food being prepared? and now this restaurant is getting all this attention for it... i guess its good they took corrective action tho ๐Ÿ’ฏ. still gonna make sure to check reviews before ordering from pholove tho ๐Ÿ˜’

I MEAN COME ON, WHO SLAMS A PLATE OF RIBS ON THE GROUND?! THAT'S NOT HOW YOU SERVE FOOD, THAT'S HOW YOU RUIN A REPUTATION!!! ๐Ÿคฏ AND NOW PHOLOVE IS OPEN AGAIN, BUT I DON'T KNOW IF PEOPLE WILL EVER TRUST THEM AGAIN. I THINK THEY SHOULD BE MORE CAREFUL ABOUT CLEANLINESS, LIKE, REGULARLY CLEANING THE RESTROOMS AND STUFF. IT'S NOT ROCKET SCIENCE, JUST KEEP YOUR RESTAURANT CLEAN AND YOU'LL BE FINE ๐Ÿ˜Š. BUT SERIOUSLY, FOOD SAFETY IS IMPORTANT AND WE NEED TO MAKE SURE THESE RESTAURANTS ARE TAKING IT SERIOUSLY.

I dont think it was just an employee being insensitive its more like a culture shock ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ. In vietnamese culture eating with your hands is super normal (for some dishes) but slamming food on the ground? that's not even close ๐Ÿ‘Ž. maybe they shouldve explained their custom to americans before sharing the video ๐Ÿค”. also, its crazy how they got cleared after one inspection ๐Ÿ˜‚. what kinda measures do u think pholove shd take to prevent this kinda thing from happening again? like, employee training or something ๐Ÿ’ก

I feel bad for the poor chef who was filmed being slammed onto the ground ๐Ÿค• it's clear that he didn't mean to be rude or disrespect his Vietnamese heritage. The fact that the restaurant had cockroaches and wasn't sanitizing properly is a major red flag ๐Ÿœ๐Ÿšฝ and I'm glad they're taking steps to fix those issues.

But at the same time, I can understand why some people are still upset ๐Ÿค” it's not just about one incident, it's about the culture and traditions behind Vietnamese cuisine. I think we need to have a more nuanced conversation about food safety and cultural sensitivity ๐Ÿ’ฌ rather than just piling on social media outrage.

It's also worth noting that our food system is complex and often reflects the systems we live in ๐ŸŒŽ so let's focus on finding solutions and supporting restaurants that are taking steps to improve their practices, rather than just tearing them down ๐Ÿ‘

๐Ÿ˜• this whole thing is so sad ๐Ÿค• it makes me think about how we can be more mindful of others' feelings & cultures ๐ŸŒŽ when we share or watch videos online. just because something happens in a restaurant doesn't mean everyone gets to comment on our experiences ๐Ÿ˜’ we gotta take responsibility for our actions & be kind to one another โค๏ธ restaurants are people's livelihoods, let's give them a chance to fix things & make amends ๐Ÿ’ช the fact that customers are still worried about food safety after all the corrections made is a good reminder to always double-check ๐Ÿค” and remember, it's not just about us, but also about how our actions affect others ๐Ÿ‘ซ

omg u think its possible 2 restore reputation after doin somethin soooo gross like that? i mean dont get me wrong ppl can make mistakes but slamming food on ground like dat? its just nasty ๐Ÿคข pholove needs 2 step up their game ASAP, like, take safety training 4 all staff & implement proper cleanliness procedures. cant have customers feelin traumatized every time they dine out ๐Ÿ˜ฉ

omg this is wild ๐Ÿคฏ i feel so bad for the owner of pholove he must be devastated ๐Ÿ˜” his restaurant was clear to reopen after just one follow up inspection? that sounds kinda lax to me ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ im all about food safety and if they cant even get it right on the first try, then maybe they shouldn't be in business ๐Ÿ’ฏ i also gotta say, its concerning how some ppl are still skeptical about pholove despite them taking corrective action ๐Ÿ™„ what really needs to change is the way these restaurants handle complaints and issues from customers ๐Ÿ‘€

๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ wow, what a lovely video to start the day... I mean, who needs a good breakfast when you can watch someone slam ribs on the ground? ๐Ÿด๐Ÿ˜‚ And now that they've fixed all their "issues" (read: cockroaches and gross food handling practices), PhoLove is back in business! Can't wait for the follow-up video to see if they've actually learned from their mistake ๐Ÿ˜’. I'm sure it's just a coincidence that some people are taking matters into their own hands by sharing their experiences... totally not a form of vigilantism at all ๐Ÿ‘€.

omg i feel so bad for the owner of pholove ๐Ÿ˜ž he got slammed by ppl over something that wasnt even intentional, like what if his employee had a seizure or something? we gotta have more empathy and less clickbait drama ๐Ÿ™„ anyway, idk about the new measures they're gonna put in place but i hope its not just lip service ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ i mean, how many ppl actually get sick from eating at pholove or is this just another case of viral outrage? ๐Ÿค”

Can you believe this? ๐Ÿคฏ Someone actually slams ribs on the floor like that! ๐Ÿšฝ It's just gross! I mean, come on, if you're gonna run a restaurant, take care of your customers and staff! Cleanliness is key, especially when it comes to food. And what really gets me is how some people think it's okay to judge someone based on one video. It's not fair to PhoLove or the employees who work there. ๐Ÿค• The owner did say they're taking steps to fix the problems, but I hope it takes more than just a slap on the wrist... literally! ๐Ÿ’ช A follow-up inspection is good, but we need to see some real changes before I'll even consider going back. ๐Ÿ‘Ž

๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ just watched that viral video of someone slamming ribs on the ground at PhoLove and i'm still shook lol what's wrong with people?! shouldn't we be treating food with respect not like it's trash? ๐Ÿšฎ anyway, sounds like they took some steps to fix their issues but i think there should be more accountability for restaurants. maybe a rating system that takes into account customer reviews and health inspections would help weed out the bad ones. ๐Ÿ’ฏ

๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ This whole thing is kinda wild. I mean, who slams ribs on the ground? ๐Ÿ—๐Ÿ˜ท It's just basic cleanliness 101. The fact that it was a viral video and people are still talking about it weeks later says more about our social media culture than anything else... People need to take responsibility for their own actions and not just call out others for theirs ๐Ÿ‘Ž

๐Ÿค” this whole thing is wild. like who slams ribs on the ground?! ๐Ÿด๐Ÿ˜ท I get that it was disgusting to watch but can't we just talk about how to prevent stuff like that from happening instead of airing all our grievances online? ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ also, i feel bad for uyen tran and his staff - they got busted hard ๐Ÿ˜ฌ. on the bright side, pholove is taking corrective action so hopefully things will get better ๐Ÿ’ช. what's up with all these follow-up inspections tho? is it just a way to make ppl feel better about eating there again? ๐Ÿค”

๐Ÿค” PhoLove needs to get its act together, not just for customer safety but also for reps of Vietnamese culture ๐Ÿ‡ป๐Ÿ‡ณ. A new video should be all they need to prove their cleaning up act ๐Ÿ’ช! ๐Ÿ‘

omg like i cant believe whats happenin here ๐Ÿคฏ this pholove restaurant shouldve been shut down forever instead of just getting cleared to reopen lol. as a student who's always on the go and eats alot of food, i know how important it is to have safe and clean places to eat. and come on ribs on the ground ๐Ÿ˜ท thats just gross. but whats even more concerning is that there were cockroaches ๐Ÿœ in the place too. can u imagine having one in ur bowl of pho? no thanks.

anywayz i think its good that uyen tran, the owner, acknowledged the outrage and is taking steps to improve things. but we need to see more concrete actions being taken ๐Ÿ“ like regular health inspections and employee training programs. and maybe some community outreach too ๐Ÿค so people know what they can do to hold restaurants accountable for their actions.

lets hope pholove can turn things around and become a safe and healthy place to eat again ๐Ÿ™
