Dittrich Furs, one of Detroit’s oldest businesses, announces closing - Detroit Metro Times

Detroit's Iconic Fur Business Closes After 132 Years

In a shocking move, Dittrich Furs, one of Detroit's oldest and most revered privately held businesses, has announced its closure after an incredible 130-year run. The family-owned business, known for its exquisite fur and natural material fashions, will cease operations following the retirement of its fifth-generation owners.

The news comes as a poignant reminder of the end of an era in Detroit's fashion scene. For generations, Dittrich Furs has been synonymous with quality, craftsmanship, and exceptional customer service. The company's rich history is a testament to the dedication and hard work of the Dittrich family, who have proudly served the community for over five decades.

In a heartfelt message on its website and social media channels, the Dittrich family expressed their gratitude to customers, partners, and friends, who have made their business an integral part of Detroit's history. The family's decision to retire, fueled by concerns about health and well-being, marks the end of a remarkable chapter in the company's storied past.

As the closure approaches, Dittrich Furs is holding a retirement liquidation sale, offering the entire inventory of over 3,000 fashions at a staggering 70% discount. This presents a unique opportunity for customers to secure exceptional deals on premium fur and natural material products, with prices so low that they have never been seen before.

The Dittrich Furs store, located in Detroit's New Center area, will remain open until all inventory has been cleared. The company invites customers to visit the store for an unforgettable shopping experience, where they can find their dream fashions at unbeatable prices.

As this iconic business comes to a close, it leaves behind a legacy of quality, craftsmanship, and exceptional customer service. Dittrich Furs will forever be remembered as an integral part of Detroit's history, thanks to the loyalty, trust, and friendship shown by its customers over the years.

man that's such sad news 🙏... i mean, who doesn't love a good fur coat? 😂 but seriously, it's like the end of an era in detroit's fashion scene. i've heard so many amazing things about dittrich furs from friends and family. they're really gonna miss their store, especially with all that gorgeous inventory 💃. at least they're holding a retirement sale tho, so people can score some incredible deals 😎. anyone who's been to detroit needs to check it out before it closes... what a shame 🤕

Ugh, great, another small business bites the dust 🤕. I mean, 132 years is a long time, but I guess all good things must come to an end... especially if you're a family-owned fur business 😂. Can't say I'm going to miss shopping for mink coats or whatever, though. On the bright side, it's like they're giving us all a chance to get really fancy with our remaining budgets 💸. And 70% off? That's just cruel and unusual punishment for my wallet 🤑. Anyway, I guess this is one way to know what happens when you invest in overpriced fur products...

man this is so sad 🤕 dittrich fur's been around for like forever 132 years?! that's crazy they're not gonna miss it tho lol they're retiring on a high note tho which is kinda cool i feel bad for the people who won't get to shop there anymore but at least they can grab some deals before it's gone for good 🤑

.. just had a bad feeling about this 🤕. Losing a piece of Detroit's heritage like that is never easy to accept. Dittrich Furs was more than just a business - it was a symbol of tradition & excellence in fashion design 💼. The fact that it's closing down due to family concerns is definitely understandable, but still sad to see an institution like that go 😔. I've heard the retirement sale will be huge though... 70% off on those luxurious furs sounds like a dream come true for some! 🤑

omg I'm literally heartbroken 😩... this is the end of an era in detroit fashion 🤕 I mean who else can say they've been shopping at dittrich furs for like 20+ yrs? 💃🏻 it's so sad to see them close their doors, i know the fam's getting older and all but 70% off their entire inventory is still insane 😲 u have to check out their liquidation sale, get the best deals on those luxury furs 🐰💸 anyway, we'll miss dittrich furs dearly 💔

man i just found out that dittrich furs is closing after 132 yrs 🤯 it's like a chapter in detroit's fashion story is coming to an end. i remember going there with my grandma back in the day she loved buying those luxurious fur coats and gloves 😂 it's crazy how fast time passes. anyway i heard they're having a huge sale with everything at 70% off 🤑 can't say no to that! anyone else planning on checking out their store before it closes? 💡

Ugh, this is just another example of how fast fashion is killing traditional industries 🤕. I mean, think about it, Dittrich Furs has been around for 132 years and now they're closing because the family is worried about their health? It's like the world has moved on to those cheap synthetic materials and people are too lazy to care about quality anymore 😒. And of course, they're having a huge liquidation sale just so people can get rid of all that nice fur and natural material stuff 🤑. I guess it's just another case of progress beating out tradition... but I'll take the good old days of real craftsmanship any day 💼👔.

I'm like totally going to miss this place when it closes 🤕. I mean, 132 years is a looong time, you know? But hey, at least their stuff will still be super pricey, so we won't have to worry about that 💸. Seriously though, it's sad to see another piece of Detroit history go. The family did an amazing job keeping the business going all these years, and it's clear they're not ready to let go just yet 🤗. Guess I'll have to take advantage of those crazy 70% discounts before it's too late! 😉

omg, can u believe this 🤯? detroit is losin' a piece of its soul 😔. dittrich fur's been around for over 130 yrs, that's crazy! 💥 what's happenin to all the ppl who grew up goin to this shop with their mom's or grandma's 👵? how r they gonna find another place like dis in detroit? 🤷‍♀️ also wut about all the fur coats & accessories 🐾? they're just gonna be takin away from people now 😢

I'm gonna miss this place so much 🤕. I mean, think about it, you can't walk down New Center area without feeling like royalty 👑, wearing something that was made with love and care from Dittrich Furs. It's crazy to see them go after 132 years, it just feels like a part of Detroit's history has been lost 💔. But on the bright side, I guess people will get some amazing deals 😂, my aunt is already planning to hit up that liquidation sale ASAP 🛍️

OMG, I'm literally heartbroken 🤕🐻. 132 years is like, a huge deal! I remember my grandma used to take me to Dittrich Furs when I was little, and we'd always have the best time browsing through all the amazing fashions. The fact that they're having a retirement sale is so cool tho 🎉 - I need to go shopping ASAP!!! 💸 I'm not sure what's gonna replace them in Detroit, but I hope whoever takes over can keep the legacy alive 🔥.

😔 just heard about Dittrich Furs closing after 132 yrs... that's so sad 💔 it's like a part of detroit's history is gone... i remember buying my grandma's wedding dress from there when she was young 🤯 now those beautiful furs are being sold at a crazy discount 😱 anyone know if they're gonna make an online store or something? would love to keep shopping their stuff even tho it won't be the same as going there in person 💕

🤕💔 I'm gonna miss this place so much... 132 years is a looong time! 🕰️ They're having a massive sale tho, so if you wanna get some fancy fur stuff at a sweet discount, now's the time 🤑. I wonder what they'll do with all that history and expertise? Maybe they can teach a new generation of fashionistas how to work with furs 🤓👖. RIP Dittrich Furs 👍

I'm like totally bummed that Dittrich Furs is closing down 🤕! I mean, who doesn't love a good fur coat or a quality leather bag? It's like, the end of an era in Detroit's fashion scene and I'm going to miss it so much 😔. But at least they're having a huge sale, which is pretty awesome 👗. My friend's grandma actually got her fur-lined coat from Dittrich Furs and she still wears it sometimes 🙌. I wish they would've considered doing an online store or something, that way more people could've gotten to shop them 😐. Anyway, I hope the family gets to enjoy their retirement and take care of themselves after all those years 💕.
