Driver fatally strikes 60-year-old woman crossing Broadway in Midtown, police say

A fatal collision claimed the life of a 60-year-old woman, Wendy Davis, who was crossing Broadway in Midtown on Monday night. According to police, Davis was walking in the crosswalk on West 53rd Street when she was struck by a Cadillac XT6 SUV making a left turn from westbound traffic.

The driver, identified as a 61-year-old man, remained at the scene and was not apprehended or charged with any offense. Police stated that Davis had been granted the right of way at the time of the incident.

Davis suffered severe injuries to her head and body and was pronounced deceased at Mount Sinai Hospital shortly after arrival. The victim lived in Forest Hills, according to authorities.

The NYPD reported that this fatal accident is part of a concerning trend, with three pedestrians having lost their lives in traffic crashes within Midtown North Precinct boundaries since January this year. However, the overall number of incidents has decreased slightly, with 895 reported through November 2025 compared to 918 during the same period in 2024.

The investigation into Davis' tragic death continues as police gather more information about the incident.

just saw this news and it's really sad that another life got cut short by a car accident πŸ€•πŸ˜” I'm trying to imagine how scary that must've been for her family who has to deal with the loss of their loved one now... as for the driver, hope he gets the help he needs to deal with whatever is going on in his head πŸ‘¨β€πŸ’». it's not like the city can do much but they gotta try to prevent more accidents from happening πŸ’‘

πŸ’”πŸ˜± I'm still trying to process this news. It's just heartbreaking thinking about Wendy Davis, a 60-year-old woman who lost her life due to a car accident on Broadway. You'd think with all the advancements in technology, we've made progress in road safety features and driver awareness systems πŸ€–πŸ’», but sadly, accidents still happen.

I'm not sure what's more frustrating – that she was granted the right of way and yet still got hit by a Cadillac XT6 SUV making a left turn πŸš—πŸš« or that the driver wasn't even charged with any offense πŸ˜’. It's just another reminder that we need to do more to prevent such incidents.

I'm actually planning to check out some new road safety features on my new smartphone πŸ“±πŸ”, maybe some advanced collision avoidance systems or pedestrian detection tech πŸš¨πŸ’‘. Who knows, maybe one day we'll have AI-powered cars that can detect and respond to pedestrians like humans do πŸ‘₯πŸ’»!

can u believe this dude gets away w/ murder 🀯? i mean i know he was granted right of way and all that, but come on! a life is a life, you can't just turn left and expect to live w/ consequences πŸ˜’. it's like the whole system is rigged against pedestrians. the nypd should be more serious about holding drivers accountable for their actions πŸš”πŸ’¨. btw, 895 vs 918? that's not exactly a trend i'd call 'concerning' πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ...

OMG u guys, I'm literally shaking right now thinkin bout poor Wendy Davis 😱 she was just tryna cross the street like we all do and this dude behind the wheel of his Cadillac XT6 just didn't even care πŸš—πŸ’”. I mean I know accidents can happen but it's just so senseless. And what's even more messed up is that he wasn't even charged with nothin, can u believe it? 🀯 Like, what kinda person does that?! Anyway, my heart goes out to Wendy's family and loved ones πŸ’•. We need to make sure that everyone who's walking in the crosswalk gets the right of way, you feel? πŸšΆβ€β™€οΈπŸ’«

ugh this is getting outta control on our streets... a mom of like 60 just walking across the street to get somewhere and BAM, lives gone πŸš—πŸ˜¨ it's crazy how much we're prioritizing cars over human life these days... can't believe they didn't catch the driver, what if they had stopped or slowed down? so many questions but I'm sure we'll never know πŸ’”πŸš«

Wow πŸ€• This is so sad! I was driving downtown last month and almost got hit by a bike πŸš΄β€β™‚οΈ, it was super scary. The NYPD needs to do more to increase visibility for pedestrians like Wendy πŸ˜•. 3 fatalities in one area is too many πŸ’”. They need to make our streets safer. Did they check the Cadillac's speed? That's gotta be a major factor πŸš—πŸ’¨
