Emma Coates leaves England U23 role to become head coach at NSWL's Bay FC

Former England U23 boss Emma Coates is leaving her role to take charge of NWSL team Bay FC. The 34-year-old, who has been in charge of the under-23s since 2023, will be joined by assistant Gemma Davies, a former manager of Aston Villa's women's team.

Coates' departure from England Football Association (FA) comes after her team's improved performances, including a win over Norway and a defeat to the United States. In September, the FA announced that their head coach Albertin Montoya would be stepping down at the end of the 2025 season.

Coates expressed her gratitude for her time with the FA, citing its impact on both her professional and personal growth. She is now looking forward to new challenges in a fresh environment.

The new Bay FC boss has been praised by the club's CEO Kay Cossington for her excellent coaching skills and ability to develop young players. Cossington described Coates as an "outstanding leader" who has consistently delivered results with clarity, care, and purpose.

Coates' decision to leave the FA is expected to be a blow to the under-23 team, which has seen several players progress to the senior side during her tenure. Her departure will undoubtedly have implications for the future of English women's football, particularly in terms of developing young talent.

As Coates embarks on this new chapter in her coaching career, fans and pundits alike will be eager to see how she adapts to the challenges of leading a team at the professional level. With her experience and track record of success, there is certainly hope that Bay FC can benefit from her leadership.

Ugh I'm so down on this move! Coates is leaving England U23's for some NWSL gig? What's next? She'll be like a coach-for-hire or something. And why did she have to go when the team was actually doing pretty well? Like, yeah okay maybe they lost to the US, but that's not all they've done this year. And now Bay FC is stuck with some unknown quantity instead of someone who's proven themselves. I mean I guess it's cool that she's gonna be in charge of a fresh environment and all that jazz πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ

I think it's great that Emma Coates is taking on a new challenge 🀩, she's already made a huge impact with the U23s and I'm sure she'll bring that same energy to Bay FC πŸ’ͺ! I mean, who wouldn't want to work for a team that's seen so many young players make it to the senior level? That's gotta be some serious coaching skills 😎. And let's be real, Gemma Davies is no slouch either πŸ‘Š, she's worked with some top talent at Aston Villa and I'm sure she'll help Coates settle in at Bay FC quickly ⏱️. I'm excited to see how this new chapter unfolds for Emma and the team πŸŽ‰.

omg i'm so excited about emma coates new job 🀩😍 she's got such great credentials and bay fc is gonna love having her on board πŸ’ͺ🏼! it's not surprising the fa are letting her go, tbh - she's been crushing it with the u23s since 2023 and the team's seen some serious growth under her leadership πŸš€. can't wait to see how she adapts to the pro league tho, she'll have her work cut out for her 😬 but i've got faith in her, she's an outstanding leader and has a track record of success πŸ’―. this is definitely a big step up for her career, and bay fc are gonna be lucky to have her at the helm πŸ™Œ.

Just think about it, another female football boss taking over and we're all supposed to be hyped about it πŸ€”πŸ’β€β™€οΈ. Don't get me wrong, Emma Coates' achievements with the U23 team are impressive, but let's not forget that she's stepping out of a very privileged position - working for a national football association with a seemingly endless budget and resources πŸ’Έ.

Meanwhile, I'm sure there are many talented young female coaches in England who are stuck in obscurity because they don't have the same connections or opportunities πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ. It's like, what about those girls? What kind of role models do we want to be for them?

Ugh, I'm not surprised she's leaving the FA... think she was always gonna bail out on them for greener pastures πŸ€‘. Bay FC is probably gonna be all about young blood and pretty players, while the under-23 team gets stuck with whoever the FA can scrounge up next πŸ˜’. Coates was good with the U23s, but let's be real, that's not exactly the pinnacle of women's football... now she's gotta deal with egos, salaries, and all the drama that comes with being a pro coach 🀯. Still, I guess it's good for her career and all that, but I just don't see how Bay FC is gonna make it in NWSL without some major overhaul πŸ’ͺ.

πŸ€” I'm kinda bummed to see Emma Coates leaving the U23 team πŸ€• She's been doing a pretty great job, especially with those wins over Norway and the US πŸ‡³πŸ‡΄πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ. I mean, it's cool that she's taking on new challenges at Bay FC, but it feels like we're losing out on someone who's really good with young players 🌱. The FA is gonna be a bit weaker without her guidance πŸ’”. On the other hand, I'm sure Bay FC will do great under her and Gemma Davies πŸ‘πŸ‘©β€πŸ’Ό. It'll be interesting to see how she adapts to the pro level, though... might be tough for her to take on all those new responsibilities πŸ˜….

πŸ€” So Coates is leaving England U23 to take over some NWSL team... sounds like a big jump for her, what's with the FA not seeing fit to promote someone more senior? 🚫 Also, wasn't there something about Montoya stepping down already in 2025? Just curious where this all goes down.

I'm low-key obsessed with Emma Coates right now! She's been crushing it with the U23s and now she's taking on a new challenge with Bay FC 🀩. I love how she's being praised for developing young players, it's all about building a strong foundation for the future. I'm curious to see how she'll adapt to leading a team at the pro level, but given her experience and results, I've got my fingers crossed that Bay FC will thrive under her guidance 😊.

πŸ€” just saw this news about Emma Coates leaving the England U23 team... interesting, right? πŸ“Š anyway, did you know that female coaches are way underrepresented in the sport? only 1% of all UEFA national team managers are women 🚫 and it's a huge problem 🌎 according to a study, women are just as good as men at coaching football ⚽️ but they're still not getting the same opportunities πŸ‘Š

πŸ“ˆ on the other hand, Emma Coates has been doing some awesome stuff with the U23 team... her teams have won 3 out of their last 5 games πŸ† and she's helped develop several talented young players 🀩 now she's moving on to bigger things at Bay FC πŸ’ͺ

πŸ“Š btw, the US Women's National Team has been crushing it in recent years 🌟 winning back-to-back World Cup titles in 2019 and 2023 πŸ† they've got an awesome team with a high level of skill and chemistry 🀝 and I'm excited to see how Emma Coates adapts her coaching style to lead Bay FC πŸ“ˆ

just saw the news about emma coates leaving england u23 to manage bay fc nwsl team πŸ€”... gotta say i'm intrigued by this move, she's been doing a great job with the under 23s and now she gets to take on the big leagues πŸ‘. it's always exciting to see young players develop and break into the senior squad during her tenure, so we'll definitely be keeping an eye on how that continues 🀞. gotta wonder what kind of changes she'll make at bay fc, though... do they have a plan for the season already? πŸ€”

Yaaas girl Emma Coates is about to slay the NWSL game πŸš€πŸ’ͺ! I'm so excited for her new adventure, she's gonna crush it at Bay FC with Gemma Davies by her side 🀩. Can't wait to see how she develops those young players and leads them to victory πŸ’₯. England U23 might be losing a legend, but Bay FC is gaining an awesome coach who knows what it takes to succeed πŸ”!

Just heard about Emma Coates leaving her job as England U23 boss πŸ€”πŸ’¨ She's actually moving on to lead Bay FC in the NWSL! I think it's awesome she's taking a new challenge πŸ’ͺ🏽. As a parent, you want to see your kids grow and develop their skills, just like Coates has done with her team 🌱. It'll be interesting to see how she adapts to leading at the pro level, but if anyone can do it, it's her 😊. Hope Bay FC is ready for some exciting football ahead! ⚽️

omg i cant believe emma coates is leaving england u23 🀯 she's been doing such a great job and i loved watching her young players grow into the senior team πŸ‘€πŸ‘ anyway its sad to see her go but im so hyped for bay fc πŸš€ they need someone with her expertise and leadership skills ASAP πŸ’ͺ kudos to coates for taking the leap and trying something new 🌟

Just saw the news about Emma Coates leaving England U23 to take over Bay FC 🀩, I'm really excited for her new adventure! She's had an amazing run with the under-23s and it's awesome that she gets to lead a team in the NWSL now. πŸ’ͺ The fact that she's being joined by Gemma Davies, who's got some great experience herself, is a bonus too πŸ™Œ. Coates' coaching skills are legendary and I'm sure she'll make a huge impact at Bay FC! πŸ‘

She's makin' a move to the NWSL 🀩! I'm thinkin' it's a solid decision for her career, 'cause let's face it, England U23s are gettin' some decent results, but they're still not where they wanna be πŸ™…β€β™€οΈ. And with Montoya steppin' down, it was bound to happen. Emma Coates is an excellent coach and she deserves a shot at the big leagues πŸ’ͺ. Bay FC's got some big shoes to fill, but if anyone can do it, it's her πŸ†! She's gonna bring that same passion and expertise to her new role and we're all excited to see how she adapts πŸ”œ

omg 🀯 just heard that Emma Coates is leaving the England U23s to take over Bay FC... like what's going on? πŸ˜‚ i mean, i'm happy for her and all but can't she just have one stable job for once? πŸ™„ she's been with the under-23s since 2023 and now she's off to try her luck in the NWSL... i guess it's good that they're recognizing her skills and all but is this really the best move for her career? πŸ€”

πŸ€” I think it's awesome that Coates is taking on this new challenge! She's proven herself as an amazing coach with the U23s and now she gets to lead a team in NWSL πŸ†. The FA made the right call in letting her go, tbh - her team was killing it after they stepped down Montoya 🚫. Coates is gonna crush it at Bay FC, no doubt about it πŸ’ͺ!
