Erika Kirk Opens Up About Faith, Grief and Forgiveing Her Husband's Accused Killer
The wife of Charlie Kirk, a conservative commentator who was assassinated in September, has spoken publicly for the first time about faith, grief and her decision to forgive his accused killer. Erika met with CBS News editor-in-chief Bari Weiss as part of a town hall airing at 8 p.m. tonight on CBS.
The Utah Valley University student posed questions to Kirk's widow about faith, political violence and the American right, reflecting on the stunning moment she forgave her husband's accused killer. She also discussed the Sabbath and its importance in Charlie's life, as it is the focus of his final book "Stop, in the Name of God: Why Honoring the Sabbath Will Transform Your Life", which was posthumously released this week.
The conversation took place after Hunter Kozak, the last person to ask Charlie Kirk a question before he was killed, posed a question to Erika about how her husband handled grief and forgiveness. The CBS News town hall moderated by Weiss featured questions from an invited audience, including Robert Milgrim, the father of 26-year-old Israeli embassy staffer Sarah Milgrim who was killed in May outside the Capitol Jewish Museum in Washington D.C.
Erika's conversation with CBS News will be broadcast at 8 p.m. ET/PT on CBS and also available for Paramount+ premium plan subscribers ($12.99/month after free 7-day trial). An extended version of the conversation will air on CBS News 24/7, starting Sunday at 9 a.m., 3 p.m., 8 p.m. and 11 p.m. ET.
The event marks the first in a series of planned town halls and debates by CBS News, offering viewers a chance to engage with Erika Kirk and hear her thoughts on issues affecting the nation.
