Erika Kirk talks faith and grief, fields question from last person to speak to Charlie: How to watch the CBS News town hall

Erika Kirk Opens Up About Faith, Grief and Forgiveing Her Husband's Accused Killer

The wife of Charlie Kirk, a conservative commentator who was assassinated in September, has spoken publicly for the first time about faith, grief and her decision to forgive his accused killer. Erika met with CBS News editor-in-chief Bari Weiss as part of a town hall airing at 8 p.m. tonight on CBS.

The Utah Valley University student posed questions to Kirk's widow about faith, political violence and the American right, reflecting on the stunning moment she forgave her husband's accused killer. She also discussed the Sabbath and its importance in Charlie's life, as it is the focus of his final book "Stop, in the Name of God: Why Honoring the Sabbath Will Transform Your Life", which was posthumously released this week.

The conversation took place after Hunter Kozak, the last person to ask Charlie Kirk a question before he was killed, posed a question to Erika about how her husband handled grief and forgiveness. The CBS News town hall moderated by Weiss featured questions from an invited audience, including Robert Milgrim, the father of 26-year-old Israeli embassy staffer Sarah Milgrim who was killed in May outside the Capitol Jewish Museum in Washington D.C.

Erika's conversation with CBS News will be broadcast at 8 p.m. ET/PT on CBS and also available for Paramount+ premium plan subscribers ($12.99/month after free 7-day trial). An extended version of the conversation will air on CBS News 24/7, starting Sunday at 9 a.m., 3 p.m., 8 p.m. and 11 p.m. ET.

The event marks the first in a series of planned town halls and debates by CBS News, offering viewers a chance to engage with Erika Kirk and hear her thoughts on issues affecting the nation.

I'm shocked she's forgiving him 🀯. I mean, can't you just feel for the guy who killed her husband? He's probably been living in fear and guilt his whole life. Forgiveness is one thing, but understanding his motivations could help us prevent these kinds of tragedies from happening again ⚠️. Erika's faith might be helping her cope with her grief, but what about Charlie's fans who are still reeling from the loss? Shouldn't she be advocating for more justice instead of just letting bygones be bygones?

OMG 🀯 can't believe erika kirk is speaking out about this!!! forgiveness is def not easy 2 forgive someone who took away ur hubby's life but i guess faith played a big role in her decision to let go of anger & bitterness lolol what's wild is that she talked abt the sabbath b4, it was really deep how charlie handled grief & his last book is actually kinda inspiring πŸ“šπŸ’‘ btw, this town hall event sounds like an awesome way 2 engage w/ erika's thoughts on politics & faith πŸ‘₯πŸ‘

πŸ€” just saw this interview with Erika Kirk and I gotta say, it's crazy how she's choosing to forgive her husband's accused killer πŸ™. I mean, I can understand why she'd want to try to heal and move forward, but it's a tough pill to swallow for a lot of people. I'm still trying to wrap my head around the whole thing. It's like, what exactly did Charlie Kirk do that warranted this level of violence? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

omg i am literally shaking thinking about erika kirk forgiving hunter kozak for killing her hubby charlie 🀯😭 like what even is this kind of faith and forgiveness? it's like she's saying sorry to the guy who took his life away from her and their kids πŸ€·β€β™€οΈπŸ‘Ά. i get that everyone makes mistakes but come on, erika, you're a grieving widow and you're choosing to forgive this dude instead of holding him accountable? πŸ™…β€β™€οΈπŸ’”. i don't know what's more disturbing, the fact that she forgave him or the fact that her hubby was so into being forgiving like he wrote a whole book about it πŸ˜’πŸ“š. i need to watch this interview ASAP and see for myself how she justifies this kind of forgiveness πŸ€”πŸ’‘.

omg i'm literally shook 🀯 Erika's story is soooo brave and inspiring... like i know it's gonna be hard for someone to forgive their husband's killer but at the same time, i get why she would wanna try - it's not easy losing someone you love like that. i've been thinking about this a lot after Charlie's assassination and how it's affected all of us who care about his work... anyway, Erika's decision to forgive is definitely something we should be cheering her on for πŸ’–

im so sorry for erika's loss... it takes a lot of courage to forgive someone who killed her husband... i think its great that she spoke up about faith and grief... its not easy to talk about those things publicly, especially when you're still grieving. forgiveness can be hard, but sometimes it feels like the only way to move forward? anyway, im looking forward to watching her town hall on cbs tonight πŸ“Ί

man this is so emotional πŸ’” i cant even imagine loosing ur husband and then having to forgive some1 who took him away from u... but at the same time its good that erika is finding peace thru faith n stuff πŸ™ she seems like a strong person tho, it takes alot of courage 2 be in such a situation n come out with forgiveness & all πŸ’– maybe her husband would've wanted her 2 move on n live her life 2 the fullest even if hes gone 🌸

πŸ€” so i'm reading this article about Erika Kirk, Charlie's wife, and she's talking about faith, grief, and forgiving his killer... like i don't know if i can even fathom being in her shoes, but at the same time, i kinda admire her for having that kind of strength to forgive. i mean, can you imagine seeing your partner, friend, whoever, get taken away from you? and then on top of that, they're accused of hurting someone else... it's just so much to take in. πŸ’” but what really got me is how she talked about the Sabbath and how important it was for Charlie... i've never been super into religion or anything like that, but there's something beautiful about taking time to reflect and connect with yourself. ✨ maybe this is a good opportunity for us all to think about our own faith in ourselves and what we need to feel whole?

I feel so bad for Erika Kirk, she's gotta go through all this grief & pain after losing her husband Charlie... I don't know how she's managing to forgive the guy who did it πŸ€”πŸ’”. It's like, I get that she wants to move on, but also, I'm sure it's not easy to just let go of everything he meant to her. And now she's talking about this book he wrote about the Sabbath... I don't know much about faith, but it sounds really important to him & maybe even helped him cope with what happened? πŸ•ŠοΈπŸ’«. Anyway, I hope Erika finds some peace soon, she seems like a strong person, but grief is just so hard to deal with πŸ˜”.

I gotta say πŸ€”, I'm a bit surprised that people are so quick to judge Erika for forgiving Hunter Kozak. Like, we don't know what was going through her mind or if she's even shown any signs of regret, right? Maybe Charlie would've wanted her to be strong and move on? Forgiveness isn't always easy, you know πŸ€•, and I think it takes a lot of courage to let go of all that anger and hurt. Plus, it sounds like Erika's trying to honor her husband's memory by finding peace and moving forward πŸ’–. Let's not be too hasty in passing judgment on someone who's clearly going through some tough times 😊.

OMG I JUST CAN'T EVEN RIGHT NOW!!! ERINKA KIRK'S STORY IS SO INSPIRING I FEEL LIKE SHAKING HER HAND AND TELLING HER HOW MUCH I ADMIRE HER FOR FORGIVING HUNTER KOZAK!! IT'S LIKE, SHE COULD HAVE LET HER GRIEF CONSUME HER BUT INSTEAD SHE CHOSEN TO TAKE THE HIGH ROAD AND SHOW US ALL THAT GOD IS TRULY LOVING AND MERCIFUL!!! I MEAN CAN YOU EVEN IMAGINE HOW HARD IT MUST HAVE BEEN FOR HER TO WATCH HER HUSBAND GET ASSASSINATED AND STILL FIND A WAY TO FORGIVE THE PERSON WHO DID IT??? IT'S LIKE, WE COULD ALL LEARN FROM ERINKA'S FAITH AND STRENGTH!!! πŸ™πŸ’•
