Citywide Cleaning Program to Roll Out in Phily Neighborhoods by February
Over 200,000 projects completed under the program since its inception last year. The city's latest 13-week cleaning cycle kicked off Monday in Northeast Philly, targeting River Wards next and Northwest Philly later this month. By late December, crews will be in West Philly, followed by Center City, South Philly, and North Philly in early January.
The initiative, spearheaded by the Office of Clean and Green Initiatives, has seen impressive progress since its debut last spring. More than a dozen agencies are working together to tackle quality-of-life issues, including litter removal, graffiti eradication, and maintenance of SEPTA stations and schools.
Residents can track project updates online and submit specific cleanup requests. The program aligns with the city's fall leaf recycling initiative, which began Monday and runs until December 20. Leaf collection centers are open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Mondays through Saturdays, while drop-off points are available at select locations.
Key highlights of the citywide cleaning program include:
* Removal of trash from over 50,000 blocks
* Repair of 12,500 potholes
* Clearance of 32,500 vacant lots
* Installation of LED lights in 43,616 locations
* Eradication of graffiti in 13,713 areas
* Removal of 6,867 abandoned vehicles
* Cleaning of 672 school facilities
The program's goal is to increase regular cleanings in each neighborhood.
