Fire safety inspections lapsed for years at Swiss bar where 40 died in New Year's blaze

A Swiss bar where 40 people died in a New Year's Eve fire has been found to have had no fire safety inspections carried out for seven years. Le Constellation, which is located in the resort town of Crans-Montana, was subject to a series of annual checks between 2016 and 2019, but none were conducted between 2020 and 2025. According to local authorities, these long intervals mean that the bar's soundproofing measures may not have been up-to-date.

An investigation into the fire has suggested that the use of sparkling candles at the bar was a contributing factor to its ignition, with the flames getting too close to the ceiling. Authorities are now trying to determine whether the bar's management was aware of any potential safety issues and took adequate precautions.

Two people have been arrested in connection with the fire, which occurred on New Year's Day when around 100 guests were present at a party. The victims included nine French nationals, among them a 14-year-old girl who was one of the youngest casualties.

As authorities continue to probe into what happened on that fateful night, concerns are being raised about how many people could have been in the bar and whether all necessary safety regulations had been followed.

In response to the tragedy, local authorities have decided to ban the use of fireworks indoors and order regular inspections of establishments in a bid to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future.

Man, this is just crazy 🀯... 40 people die in a bar fire and no one's been inspecting it for years? That's just insane 😱. And now they're saying the sparkly candles might've been the cause? Like, who puts candles near the ceiling? πŸ€” And what about all those guests who were inside when this happened? It's like they just left them to burn πŸ”₯. I don't get how no one noticed anything was off... were they even paying attention? πŸ˜•. This is a total wake-up call for all these bars and clubs in the resort town, gotta make sure safety regulations are on point πŸš¨πŸ’―. Can't believe it took this tragedy to make them take action πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ.

OMG, like I'm really feeling so bad for the families of the victims πŸ€•... this is just horrific. I mean, I know we can't be too harsh on Le Constellation's management, but seven years without a fire safety inspection? That's, like, totally unacceptable. I guess they were probably trying to save costs and all, but no way, it's not worth risking lives πŸ€‘.

And honestly, I'm kinda curious about how the whole sparkling candle thing went down... was it really that bad or was it just an accident waiting to happen? Like, what if there had been some warning signs or something? πŸ€”

But you know what's even worse? The fact that two people got arrested in connection with the fire πŸš”. That's just so unfair, and I hope they can get a good lawyer or something to help them out.

I do think it's cool that local authorities are taking steps to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future though πŸ”’. Banning fireworks indoors is a great idea, and regular inspections will definitely help. We should all be supporting the people who are trying to make things right here πŸ’ͺ.

πŸ˜±πŸ’” This is just devastating! I mean, can you imagine if your favorite bar catches fire on NYE? 🀯 The fact that they didn't have fire safety inspections for 7 years is absolutely mental πŸ’‘. And those sparkling candles... who knew they were a hazard πŸ˜‚?

I'm so sorry for the families of the victims πŸ™, especially that poor 14-yr-old girl πŸ€•. It's just heartbreaking to think about what could've been done differently πŸ€”. As for the bar owners, I hope they're taking responsibility and learning from their mistakes πŸ’―.

These new safety regulations might seem like a step in the right direction #FireSafetyMatters #NeverForgetTheCransMontanaTragedy πŸš’πŸ’₯

can you believe this is what happens when ppl think they can play with fire 🀯πŸ”₯ like they're at home or something. 7 yrs without inspection?? that's crazy talk! soundproofing measures are key, especially if u got loud music goin on πŸ’₯. and what's up w/ those sparkling candles? so reckless πŸ™„. i'm glad ppl r speakin out and demand more safety standards. hopefully this tragedy turns into somethin positive and ppl start takin precautions πŸ’ͺ.

Still shaking my head about this one... I mean, come on! You'd think a place with all those people would be super safe. And seven years without a fire safety check? That's just crazy talk! The whole sparkling candle thing doesn't make sense either - what were they thinking?! And now, people are worried about the bar's management knowing about potential issues and not doing anything about it. It's like, basic human responsibility, right? πŸ€―πŸ’”

man I cant even imagine being at that bar on new year's eve and not knowing there was a fire risk... the fact that they went 7 years without any fire safety checks is just crazy 🀯 it's like, you'd think that would be a top priority for a place that's serving people drinks and food. I'm glad they're trying to figure out what happened and whether anyone knew about the problems beforehand, but it's also really sad that 40 people lost their lives over something so preventable. I hope whoever is behind this gets held accountable πŸ’”

omg this is like soooo sad what if they did do fire safety checks or something 🀯 they should've had like 10 inspections a year or something, not just 1-2 lol how many people can get lost in those flames?! it's crazy that some ppl died, especially that 14 yr old girl 😒 and now the authorities are trying to figure out if the management knew about any safety issues πŸ€” hopefully they find out and take action ASAP because now they're banning fireworks indoors 🎊πŸ’₯ but idk what else can be done, it's like a never ending story with these tragic incidents πŸ’”

Ugh, this is just great πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ. A bar that's basically a death trap is now trying to play it safe by banning fireworks? Like, what's next? They're gonna start checking the air for oxygen before letting people drink? It's all just a PR stunt to make people feel better about the fact that 40 people lost their lives due to negligence. And don't even get me started on the soundproofing measures – who cares if they're up-to-date, right? A bunch of candles going off in a crowded room is basically begging for disaster πŸ˜‚. These two arrested guys might've gotten lucky, but what about all the others who are gonna get caught up in this mess? It's just another example of how the system always fails when people get hurt πŸ’”.

πŸ€• this is so shocking its crazy that they didnt do fire safety checks for 7 years what if more people had died?? i hope those arrested get the max sentence for their negligence, soundproofing shouldve been checked more often 🚨πŸ”₯ at least theyre taking steps to prevent similar incidents now, banning fireworks indoors and regular inspections is a good start πŸ’―

omg what's going on with this bar?! 40 people die and no one checked if it was safe for 7 years 🀯🚨 how many more lives have to be lost? and those sparkling candles are so reckless... i mean i get that they're festive but come on! the fact that management wasn't aware of any safety issues is just wild... did they not know about fire safety regulations or something? i'm also confused why there were only 100 guests there and yet it was still a disaster πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ and those regular inspections are about time too, hopefully it helps prevent more accidents like this from happening πŸ™

I'm still trying to wrap my head around what happened at that Swiss bar 🀯. 40 people died in a fire on New Year's Eve, which is just devastating. I feel so bad for the victims and their families πŸ’”. It's not like they were expecting it to happen, just enjoying a party with friends.

I don't think it's right that there weren't any fire safety inspections done at the bar for 7 years πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ. That's just lazy and irresponsible. And now we're hearing that the use of sparkling candles might have contributed to the fire... how did they not see that coming? πŸ”₯

I hope they catch whoever is responsible and make sure they get the punishment they deserve ⚠️. But more importantly, I hope this tragedy leads to real change in terms of safety regulations πŸ™. I don't want to hear about another incident like this happening again in the future πŸ˜”.

🀯 Like what's going on here?! A bar with 40+ deaths and no fire safety checks for SEVEN YEARS?! That's just crazy! How many times do you have to be killed before people start taking this stuff seriously? πŸ™„ And those sparkling candles? Who thought that was a good idea?! πŸ”₯ I mean, I get it, NYE parties can get wild, but this is just reckless. I hope whoever gets arrested for this can help prevent something like this from happening again. It's just not right, you know? 😑

I mean, can you believe this?! 😱 A bar with no fire safety checks for SEVEN years?! πŸš’ That's just not right! And now we're hearing that soundproofing measures might not have been up-to-date either... how do they even manage that? 🀯 It's just one big red flag after another. I'm glad the authorities are taking this seriously, but you've got to wonder if it was just a matter of negligence or something more sinister going on. And 40 people lost their lives, poor souls... πŸ˜”

This whole thing is just so messed up 🀯. Like, 40 people dying because some greedy landlord or owner couldn't be bothered to do even one simple fire safety inspection? It's just not right. And now that everyone knows about it, I'm sure there'll be all sorts of lawsuits flying around and whatnot.

The fact that the bar had been doing these checks sporadically is super concerning. What if they'd noticed something was off and didn't bother to do anything with it? It's like, their own negligence just cost people their lives. And now we're gonna see even more red tape in place because of it, which is basically just a waste of time and resources.

I'm also kinda wondering how many of those 100 guests were actually paying attention that night. Like, did anyone notice the candles getting too close to the ceiling? It's not like they'd be expecting fireworks at a bar on New Year's Eve...

just found out that this swiss bar was basically a fire waiting to happen lol πŸ˜‚ 40 people dead is just insane, can't believe no one checked on fire safety for 7 years 🀯 i mean what were they thinking? soundproofing issues could've definitely played a role in the whole thing... hopefully these investigations help bring some answers and prevent this from happening again πŸ’‘

This is just heartbreaking πŸ€•, I mean can you believe a bar didn't even do fire safety checks for 7 whole years?! It's just crazy! The fact that they had some sort of deal with not having annual inspections doesn't make it okay, you know?

I'm glad the authorities are cracking down on this now and trying to figure out what happened. Sparkling candles can be pretty safe when used right, but I guess if they weren't up-to-date or just weren't monitored properly... yeah, that's a disaster waiting to happen! And 100 people at a party? That's like, super crowded 🀯

It's also crazy that there were two arrests already. I hope the investigation is thorough and doesn't miss anything important. And on top of it all, they're banning fireworks indoors now... that's just common sense, you know?

I think we need to make sure our public places are held to a higher standard, especially when it comes to safety and regulations. It's just not worth the risk πŸ€”

πŸ€• I'm still trying to process what happened at that bar in Switzerland... 40 lives lost on New Year's Eve is just devastating. And to think it was all avoidable if they'd had proper fire safety checks done regularly. It's so irresponsible of the management not to have taken care of their premises for seven whole years πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ. I mean, I get that things can slip through the cracks, but this is just unacceptable. The fact that the soundproofing measures weren't up-to-date because of these long intervals makes me shudder 😱. And what about those sparkly candles? Were they really necessary? πŸŽ‰ Clearly not... Anyway, my heart goes out to all the families who lost loved ones in this tragedy πŸ’”.

OMG, 40 ppl died and no fire safety checks for 7 yrs?! 🀯 That's just not right, you feel? I mean, what kind of negligence is that? The whole thing with the candles being too close to the ceiling is crazy enough, but add in the fact that there hasn't been any oversight for so long... it's just a recipe for disaster. 😩 And to think those ppl were partying and enjoying themselves on New Year's Eve, and then BAM! This happens. I'm still trying to process how this all went down and how it was allowed to go on for so long without anyone stopping it. πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ The fact that they've arrested two people is a start, but what about the owners/management? Were they aware of any safety concerns? Did they do anything to address them? So many questions...

OMG, can you even imagine walking into a bar knowing they haven't had a fire safety inspection in 7 years?! 🀯 I mean, Le Constellation should have been on top of their soundproofing and stuff. The fact that they didn't get an annual check from 2020 to 2025 is just wild. And now they're trying to figure out if the management was even aware of any safety issues? πŸ€” It's like, come on guys! You gotta be proactive about these things.

I'm so glad local authorities are taking steps to prevent something like this from happening again, though. Banning fireworks indoors is a no-brainer and regular inspections are super important. We can't just sit back and wait for tragedies like this to happen. We need to look out for each other and make sure everyone's safe in public places! πŸ’ͺ
