Fired Rockstar employees’ plea for interim pay denied

UK Employment Tribunal Rejects Rockstar Games Employees' Interim Pay Request

A UK employment tribunal has turned down a request from 34 former employees of Rockstar Games, who were fired last year, to receive interim pay while waiting for a full hearing about their dismissal. The Independent Workers’ Union of Great Britain (IWGB) had accused the company of "union busting" following their termination.

The tribunal rejected the request despite the union's confidence that a full and substantive hearing would find Rockstar's actions to be unjust, unlawful, and in breach of its own procedures. IWGB president Alex Marshall stated, "Despite being refused interim relief today, we've come out of last week’s hearing more confident than ever that a full and substantive tribunal will find Rockstar's calculated attempt to crush a union to be not only unjust but unlawful."

The former employees were fired from their jobs in the UK and Canada, with 31 from the UK and three from Canada. The IWGB had accused Rockstar of firing its own employees due to leaks of company information on a Discord channel.

A spokesperson for Rockstar Games stated that they regretted having to make dismissals but stood by their course of action. However, it is unclear at this time whether Rockstar will be required to pay out any compensation.

This move comes as Rockstar continues working on its latest game, Grand Theft Auto VI, which was recently delayed from a planned May launch to November 19th.

this is wild 🤯 like seriously rockstar thinks it can just get away with busting their own union and firing people over some discord leak? newsflash guys: that's not how it works 👀 i mean what's next, you gonna fire someone for posting a meme on instagram? 🚫 the fact that they're trying to downplay this whole thing by saying they regret having to make the dismissals is just laughable 😂 like, no dude, you got caught red-handed and now you gotta deal with the consequences 💥

🤔 I gotta say, it's pretty messed up that these ex-Rockstar Games employees are being denied interim pay 😒. Like, they've been fired without any clear reason and now they're being made to wait for like, forever 🕰️. It's not fair, you know? They might have had a good thing going with Rockstar, but then their colleagues spill the beans on a Discord channel and POOF! 👋 They're outta there.

I don't get why the tribunal didn't grant them some kind of support during this whole ordeal 🤷‍♀️. It's not like they've done anything wrong, except maybe for sharing some info that wasn't meant to be shared 📝. And Rockstar is just sitting on their hands, saying sorry but standing by their actions 😐. It's a bit concerning, you know?

idk why the tribunal didn't think it was fair that they needed their pay ASAP 🤔...i get that rockstar's gonna deny any wrongdoing but come on, they gotta be at least slightly worried about some bad PR 📰. and now they're just gonna sit around waiting for this full hearing to happen? that's a long time to not have a steady income 💸. i'm still rooting for the union though, they seem like they're fighting for the right thing 👊. rockstar's just making this more complicated than it needs to be, imo 🤷‍♂️.

🤔 This decision by the UK tribunal just got me thinking... I mean, what's up with these big corporations trying to squeeze every last penny out of their employees? Rockstar Games is literally making bank on GTA VI and still finding ways to screw over its own people 🤑💸. And now they're just going to sit back and wait for the full hearing? Like, come on! The union was right, this whole "union busting" thing is a bit shady 😏. I'm keeping an eye on this one, it'll be interesting to see how it all plays out 🤯

I dont get why the tribunal cant just give them some decent interim pay lol. I mean, they were fired without warning and now its like their lives have come to a standstill. The IWGB is like "yeah we know Rockstars trying to be all sneaky" but come on, can't they just show some compassion? 🤔

And what's with the union busting accusations? Like, isn't that just a fancy way of saying Rockstar doesnt wanna deal with its employees anymore? I feel bad for the people who got fired. Guess we'll have to wait and see if the tribunal actually sides with the IWGB... probably gonna be a long time 💸

omg u no how frustrating dis sounds 🤯 like rockstar games thinks they can just fire their own employees and not gotta pay 'em a thing? that's like somethin outta the world of gattaca or something 😂 anyway, i feel bad for those workers who got laid off. it's sus they were let go cuz of leaks on discord tho...like, don't they know u can't just silence someone and expect them to be quiet? 🤷‍♀️ i hope the tribunal rules in their favor tho, 'cause that would be a major win for workers rights 👊

ugh i cant believe rockstars getting away with this... they fired those employees and now they dont have to give them any pay? like whats the point of even having an employment tribunal if theyre just gonna let companies get away with this kinda thing? 🤷‍♀️💸 im all for workers having their rights protected, you know? its not fair that rockstar got to play the victim card and now they dont have to face any real consequences. i hope those employees can find some other job ASAP... 💼👍

😐 I think the UK employment tribunal's decision is super weird. I mean, you'd think that giving employees some interim pay would be a no-brainer, especially if they're fighting against a company that's basically trying to union-bust them. But I guess Rockstar's lawyers were all like "nope, you can't have any money until the full hearing" and the tribunal was all "okay, we'll go with that".

It's pretty frustrating for the former employees, too - they're just waiting for a resolution to this whole thing and now they don't even get some basic pay while they're waiting. I'm not surprised the IWGB is still confident that Rockstar messed up, though. The union's argument seems pretty solid, especially if it was a case of "leaks on Discord" - that's just not cool company business to fire people over.

Anyway, it'll be interesting to see how this whole thing plays out. Maybe Rockstar will end up getting slammed with some serious fines or penalties, which could be super bad for the company's rep. 🤔

I feel bad for these workers 🤕. They're going through a tough time, and it's not fair that they can't get some financial support while they wait for their full hearing. The fact that Rockstar is still working on GTA VI without its employees makes me wonder if this is all just a PR stunt to distract from the drama. I wish the tribunal had considered providing them with some interim pay, even if it's not the end result they were hoping for 😔.

🤔 So like I don't blame the union for fighting back, you know? They're basically saying that Rockstar Games is trying to silence them and crush their union, which just doesn't sit right with me 🙅‍♂️. The fact that 34 employees lost their jobs because of a leak on a Discord channel is pretty harsh, in my opinion 😬. I mean, who hasn't had a little online mishap at some point? 🤦‍♀️ Still, it's not like Rockstar Games can just waltz out and start firing people left and right without facing any consequences 💼. The union might be confident that they'll win the full hearing, but let's see how it plays out, you know? ⏰

🤕 I'm so sad for those 34 ex-Rockstar employees who are going through this tough time! 🌪️ They're already dealing with the stress of being fired and now they have to wait even longer for justice? 💔 It's like the company is trying to make them wait until they've finished their next game... I mean, come on, Rockstar! 😩 You can't just crush a union and expect everything to be okay. That's not how it works. 🚫

And what's with all this "union busting" stuff? Can't they just have a respectful conversation about workers' rights? 💬 It's like they think they're above the law or something. Newsflash, Rockstar: you can't silence your employees that easily! 💪 The IWGB is fighting for their rights and I'm rooting for them all the way! 🌟

😒 think its crazy rockstars tryin 2 squash union like that in UK. whats the point of havin employees if u can just fire 'em whenever u feel like it? IWGB got this right btw, union busting is real 🤝

Umm... so I'm like totally with the former employees on this one, right? They went through all that drama and now they can't get any pay for even existing? 🤯 But at the same time, I don't know, Rockstar did fire them, like, without warning or anything... 😐 They were part of a union too, which is kinda cool. So maybe it's not entirely their fault? 🤷‍♂️ And on the other hand, Rockstar was like "we're not gonna pay you because you leaked company info"... I mean, that's some pretty harsh stuff right there... 💸 But then again, they did leak that info, so... 😒 Wait, no, I'm just getting all confused now! 🤯 Can't decide if I think Rockstar is a bad guy or not?

🤔 So the tribunal just told those Rockstar Games employees they gotta wait it out for their full hearing before getting any money... that's kinda harsh, right? 🤑 I mean, they already lost their jobs and are waiting to find out if they're being unfairly treated by the company. It's like they're stuck in limbo while the game developers are still making millions off their next big thing... Grand Theft Auto VI, yeah? 🎮 They should've at least gotten some interim pay, that would've been a decent gesture considering all the drama. Guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens during that full hearing... fingers crossed for those employees! 😅

I don't get why they need interim pay now 🤔. They already got their jobs, right? It's like asking for a refund after you buy something just in case it turns out you don't like it... and then complaining when the refund isn't immediate 💸. And another thing, this whole "union busting" thing is a red flag if I ever saw one 🚨. Companies shouldn't be able to fire employees because they unionize or share info on Discord, that's just basic employment law ⚖️. I hope Rockstar gets what's coming to them... but let's see how it plays out, we don't know all the facts yet 😐.

I gotta say, I'm kinda surprised by this ruling 🤔. I mean, it seems pretty clear that Rockstar's actions were shady at best (just saying). But I guess you can't judge a tribunal based on one decision, right? 😊 The IWGB is still confident in their case, and I've gotta give 'em credit for standing up to the big game developers. It's all about workers' rights, you know? 🙌 And hey, at least Rockstar's not getting off scot-free – maybe we'll see some compensation down the line? 💸 It's all part of the journey, right? 😊

I feel bad for those guys. I mean, they're like, basically being forced to wait until the full hearing is over before even getting their regular pay back, you know? 🤕 It's not right that Rockstar is trying to delay paying them until then. The union's got a point, though - it does seem pretty suspicious that they were fired after some company info leaked out on Discord...

idk why they thought they could just fire all those devs and get away with it lol 😂 the union is being super clutch though, btw. rockstar's gonna have to deal with some serious consequences for trying to break the law 🤯 i mean, what kinda company just ignores their own procedures like that? 🚫 gotta love the IWGB for standing up for those devs 👊

OMG, I'm soooo sad for those Rockstar employees!!! 🤕💔 They're going through so much stress and uncertainty right now... Interim pay would've really helped them out while they wait for the full hearing 🤑. But you know what? I have faith in the IWGB! 💪 They're fighting hard for their rights, and I'm sure justice will be served 🙌. Rockstar might think they can "crush" a union, but the workers are stronger than that 💪🏽! Let's keep supporting them! 💕
