Firefighter hurt by falling bricks while battling apartment fire in Wharton County, officials say

Firefighters in Wharton County are dealing with the aftermath of a devastating apartment fire that injured one brave firefighter. The blaze broke out overnight at an apartment complex along Junior College Boulevard, sending flames shooting from one of the buildings.

As emergency responders rushed to the scene, a section of the wall suddenly collapsed, raining down bricks on a firefighter who was battling the flames. Miraculously, despite suffering minor injuries, he managed to get checked out by first responders and is now recovering.

Fortunately, no residents were injured in the fire, but their homes have been left without power. One resident, Logan Wandell, recounted the traumatic experience his daughter endured during the blaze. "She was crying and stuff... She was just happy that she was able to get the cat underneath the bed because she was freaking out," he said.

The Wharton Volunteer Fire Department has confirmed that one of their firefighters suffered injuries after the bricks fell on him. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, with officials working to determine the origin and spread of the flames.

As a result of the fire, several residents have been displaced, but the Red Cross will be providing assistance to those in need. For now, authorities are urging everyone to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.

The incident serves as a stark reminder of the risks that firefighters face every day when battling blazes like this one. Thankfully, the injured firefighter is receiving the necessary care, and the community is rallying around the affected residents.

Man I'm still shook by this news 🤯 Firefighters put their lives on the line every single day and it's crazy to think about the risks they take. The fact that a section of the wall just collapsed on one of them? That's insane! Thankfully the guy is okay, but it's a harsh reminder of what these heroes go through.

The power outage for all those residents must be super frustrating 🌃 I can only imagine how traumatic it must've been for Logan Wandell's daughter to see her home go up in flames and have to save her cat. It's amazing that the Red Cross is stepping in to help, though - these are dark times but community support makes a difference.

As we move forward with this investigation, I hope they get to the bottom of what caused this fire 🕵️‍♂️ The bravery of those firefighters can't be overstated. They're true unsung heroes 💪.

Ugh 🤕 this is just awful... how scary must it be for the people living in those apartments, especially with a kid who was really traumatized by the whole thing? And that firefighter's injuries were minor but still... he could've been so much worse 💔. I'm glad the Red Cross is stepping in to help the displaced residents, though. We need more support like that for our first responders 🤝. It's just not right that a wall collapsed on him like that... what if it had been someone else? The authorities are doing their job, but they should really take a closer look at how this happened so we can prevent it from happening again in the future 😬

man that's so crazy what happened to that firefighter 🤯! one minute he's fighting flames the next bricks are raining down on him 😱. at least he's okay though, just a few minor injuries. hope he recovers quick so he can get back to doing what he loves. and poor guy's daughter must've been traumatized 🐈💔. like you said, it's a stark reminder of the risks firefighters take every day. but on a positive note, the community is coming together to support those affected by the fire 💕. let's hope everyone gets back to normal soon and those homes are lit up again 🏠🔦

🙏 The notion of collateral damage in emergency situations is quite striking here... I mean, can you imagine being in the midst of a blazing inferno only to have your own team turn against you? The fact that our brave firefighter managed to escape with minor injuries is a testament to his training and quick thinking. It's a sobering reminder of the risks firefighters take every day to protect us from harm 🚒💥 Still, it's reassuring to see the community come together in support of those affected by this tragedy... and I'm glad the Red Cross is on the scene to provide assistance to displaced residents 😊
