McLaren team-mates Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri have been put in a difficult position by their situation for the Formula 1 World Championship title decider at Abu Dhabi.
The scenario could arise if Red Bull's Max Verstappen leads, with Piastri being just four points behind Norris. In that case, Piastri would be out of contention but Norris could potentially win the championship by letting his teammate through on track.
For George Russell, however, it wouldn't be acceptable for this to happen. The Mercedes driver believes it's not reasonable or fair to ask a driver in with a shot at winning the championship to move over for their team-mate.
Russell thinks that in other seasons, such as when Sergio Perez and Max Verstappen were battling, or Rubens Barrichello and Michael Schumacher, it would be perfectly fine if one driver had to let another through.
But Russell disagrees with that reasoning. He believes both drivers should be given a chance to compete for the title and that if they lose out because of it, you just have to say the other guy did a better job.
The situation comes down to whether Norris would put pressure on Piastri's chances by expecting him to let him through, and ultimately decide who deserves to win the championship.

! Like, what even is that logic? "Hey, Lando, you're in with a shot at winning the whole thing, just move over for Oscar, he's like 4 points behind and it wouldn't hurt him or anything"... no way José! That's not how it works! You're there to WIN THE CHAMPIONSHIP, not babysit your teammate 
. And what if Norris doesn't even let Piastri through? Does that mean he's a bad person now? It just seems so unfair to both drivers 
. I think it's all about the pressure, man... will Norris put too much stress on Piastri if he knows he has to let him through? Can't we just have one genuine winner instead of two who have to compromise each other?
it's not fair to ask one of the drivers to give up their shot at the championship just because they're teammates. i mean, imagine if this happened in the f1 history books and it was recorded forever 
what would be the real heroes of that moment? 
. But seriously George Russell's point is valid, it's not right to ask someone to sacrifice their chance at winning just because they're teammates. It's like if you were friends and one person asked the other to give them your phone so they could have better wifi 
. You'd be all like "no way" right? 
. If Norris lets Piastri through and wins the title, it'd be super frustrating for fans who were rooting for Piastri. It's not right to ask one driver to sacrifice their shot at glory just for their teammate 
. On the other hand, if both drivers have a legit shot, I guess you've got to respect that and let the racing do the talking... or something like that 
. This situation is giving me major "The Hunger Games" vibes – all eyes on Norris and Piastri as they go head-to-head in Abu Dhabi 
. But seriously, it makes sense what Russell is saying... if one guy's gonna put pressure on his teammate's chances of winning, then both drivers should be given a shot at the championship. It's not fair to just expect one person to sacrifice their own chance for the greater good 
I MEAN, IF YOU WANT TO WIN THE CHAMPIONSHIP SO BADLY, YOU SHOULD BE FIGHTING FOR IT YOURSELF! GEORGE RUSSELL MAKES A GOOD POINT THAT IN OTHER SEASONS, IT WAS OKAY FOR ONE DRIVER TO LET ANOTHER THROUGH. BUT THIS IS A WHOLE DIFFERENT LEVEL WHERE BOTH DRIVERS ARE ALREADY WITH A SHOT AT THE TITLE!!!
It's a tough one because Russell is right that both drivers should get a chance to compete and not have someone hold them back just because they're teammates. Maybe they can make some rules or something so it doesn't come down to who's more annoying on track? 
it's not like Russell has been in this situation before... 
George Russell is totally right though, it's not fair to expect Oscar Piastri to just step aside and let Lando Norris win, even if it means his own chances of winning are over. 
It's all about who's got the skills on that track!
