'Golden sands meld into the clear turquoise sea': readers' favourite beaches in Europe

From the picturesque coastline of Sicily to the charming villages of Portugal, Greece and Spain, Europe is a treasure trove of breathtaking beaches that offer an unforgettable experience for beach lovers.

In Sicily, Cefalù boasts a stunning half-moon beach where golden sands seamlessly blend into the crystal-clear turquoise sea. The medieval town's narrow streets are lined with stones in a diamond pattern, leading to a lively square filled with great Italian food and a beautiful Norman cathedral with Byzantine mosaics.

For those seeking tranquility, Portugal's Fuseta fishing village is an idyllic getaway. With miles of calm lagoon waters and natural sand spits and islands protecting it, visitors can unwind in complete seclusion using water taxis to explore secluded coves or simply relax on the beach.

In Greece, the Fourni islands are a hidden gem that has long been favored by Athenians looking for solitude and stunning scenery. Petrokopio beach features ancient marble quarries surrounded by white stones, while Kampi is home to tamarisk trees providing the perfect backdrop for an unforgettable picnic.

Finally, in Spain's Asturias region, Gijón offers a surf scene alongside tranquil waters at Playa de Poniente and San Lorenzo beach has a lovely promenade perfect for strolls.

Each of these destinations embodies the essence of European beaches - with unique charm and serene beauty that invites you to soak up every moment.

I'm kinda late to this thread but I just got back from Spain 🤦‍♀️🌴 and Gijón was everything I wanted it to be. The surf scene is crazy and the promenade at San Lorenzo beach is so chill 😎. But what really caught my eye were those Fourni islands in Greece - have anyone been there? 🤔 I've been meaning to check out Kampi beach, all about the tamarisk trees... sounds like a picnicking paradise 🍽️🌳

OMG, Europe is literally the ultimate beach destination 🏖️! I mean, can you even imagine escaping to Sicily's half-moon beach or Portugal's secluded coves? It's like a dream come true for beach lovers 😍. And have you seen Greece's Fourni islands? Those ancient marble quarries and stunning scenery are giving me major wanderlust vibes 🌊💖. The surf scene in Spain's Asturias region is also so cool 🏄‍♀️! What I love most about these beaches is that each one has its own unique charm - you won't find them all in one place, you know? It's like they're sharing their secrets with the world, and honestly, I'm here for it 😊.

I think what really sets these places apart is their authenticity 🌊. You can tell that they're not trying to be some mass-market tourist destination, but instead are genuine expressions of local culture and geography. I mean, have you ever seen a place like Cefalù's half-moon beach? It's just so... Sicilian 😊. The way the golden sand blends into the turquoise sea is literally breathtaking.

And I love how each of these places has its own unique vibe. From Portugal's calm lagoon waters to Greece's Fourni islands, it's clear that they're not trying to be something they're not. They're just embracing their quirks and letting them shine through. And then there's Spain's Asturias region, where you can surf and relax at the same time – what's not to love about that? 🏄‍♂️

For me, it's all about finding those hidden gems that most people never talk about 😊. These European beaches may be popular, but they're also super underrated, if you ask me. So, I'd say go ahead and explore them – your Instagram followers will thank you 😉.

🤩 I am literally DYING over these beach destinations! Sicily's Cefalù is like, my dream vacation spot lol. That half-moon beach is giving me LIFE 🌴♀️. And have you seen the food in that town? Mmmm, my stomach is growling just thinking about it 🍝. Portugal's Fuseta sounds so relaxing, I need a water taxi to get there ASAP 🚣‍♀️. The Fourni islands in Greece are like a secret hideout for me and my squad 😂. And Gijón in Spain? Surfer heaven, duh! San Lorenzo beach is calling my name 🌊🏄‍♀️. I'm totes adding these places to my bucket list ASAP 💯.

I'm so overhyped about this article 🤩, like every year its the same old Italy getting all the attention. Don't get me wrong Cefalù is gorgeous but have you seen the Costa Brava in Spain? Those beaches are just as stunning and way less crowded 🌊. And Portugal's got some amazing spots too, I spent a weekend in Lagos last year and it was incredible. The Fourni islands in Greece though are seriously underrated, I've been to some of those islands and they're like little secret paradises 🌴.

🤔 I'm not buying it... how do we know these are the best beaches in Europe? Have they conducted some sort of scientific survey or study? What's the criteria for "breathtaking" and "unforgettable"? Is it just a bunch of biased travel bloggers getting free trips to Italy, Portugal, Greece, and Spain? 📚 I need sources, fam!
