A San Jose woman's kindness has helped save a life in her neighborhood - that of Huerro, the stray cat shot with a crossbow. The feline was found by Allison Fluty on Friday night after she noticed him limping near her home.
Fluty took Huerro to a local veterinary hospital where staff removed a 6-inch bolt lodged in his tail at midnight. Fluty has since created a GoFundMe page to cover the cost of the surgery, as well as help other stray animals receive medical attention.
The woman who discovered Huerro said, "Why would someone do that? I mean, these are poor little animals that can't defend themselves." The victim's owner is still in shock over the incident and believes it's a case of targeted violence.
Fluty has now gone on to rescue 13 more stray cats from her neighborhood. In an effort to prevent such incidents, she plans to provide spaying services for these animals.
Huerro is recovering well at his home and should be back on its feet in two weeks.
