Grab-and-go restaurant Bombfire opens in Detroit’s Liquor Basket Gratiot - Detroit Metro Times

Bombfire, a new grab-and-go restaurant from renowned chef Chucky Payton, has opened its doors at the Liquor Basket Gratiot on Detroit's east side. The venture marks a significant expansion of the liquor store, which recently rebranded as the Push Gallery and aims to promote Black-owned brands.

Chef Payton brings over 15 years of culinary experience, having operated pop-ups, catering businesses in Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and now in Detroit. His wife Felisa is also involved in the business, citing Bombfire's menu as "comfort gourmet food" that sets it apart from other eateries.

The menu boasts a diverse array of options, including tacos, quesadillas, pita wraps, salads, plantain nachos, and pesto fries, all served with sides like mac and cheese, candied yams, hummus, and homemade barbecue jerk sauce. A $5 breakfast menu features French toast, pancakes with chicken fennel sausage, breakfast burritos, and sandwiches.

The kitchen is open Thursdays through Saturdays for dine-in customers, while orders can also be placed via DoorDash. Sundays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays are reserved for Louisiana Creole fare served by Chef Kevin.

Felisa notes that Bombfire plans to partner with the Liquor Basket Gratiot to provide food for its art shows and events, further solidifying the space's commitment to promoting local culture and Black-owned businesses.
