Greg Vernick branches out of Center City with Italian restaurant in Kensington

Greg Vernick, the James Beard Award-winning chef behind Center City's beloved Vernick Food & Drink, is branching out with his latest venture, Emilia. Located in East Kensington at 2406 Frankford Ave., this cozy Italian restaurant marks a new chapter for Vernick and co-owner Henry Siebert.

After six years of absence from the culinary scene, Emilia brings the authentic tastes of Italy to a warm neighborhood space that Vernick has come to love. The menu, crafted by chef de cuisine Meredith Medoway, is inspired by her own Italian heritage and food tours in Emilia-Romagna. Handmade pasta dishes take center stage at this welcoming restaurant.

Emilia's design choices are intentionally minimalist, allowing the food to be the star of the show. The 60-seat dining room offers a unique atmosphere, while an additional 31 seats at the bar provide space for walk-in customers. To make reservations, diners can book up to 30 days in advance through Resy.

Vernick and Siebert aim to create a neighborhood destination where great food and beautiful spaces bring people together. "We look forward to creating a welcoming atmosphere," Siebert said in a statement.

As for Medoway, her passion for Italian cuisine was sparked by her mother's cooking style and inspired her culinary journey abroad in Emilia-Romagna. She believes that the essence of good food lies in its comfort and elegance, making diners feel at home even when they're not. With Emilia, Vernick has expanded his offerings, offering a fresh perspective on classic Italian dishes.

Emilia's hours of operation include Sundays to Wednesdays from 5-9:30 pm, Thursdays to Saturdays from 5-10 pm, and reservations can be booked up to 30 days in advance.

I'm low-key stoked about Emilia! Vernick's bringing that authentic Italian vibe to East Kensington and I'm here for it πŸπŸ‘Œ. Meredith Medoway's menu sounds like a total game-changer - handmade pasta, food tours in Italy... can't wait to try it out! And I love how Vernick & Siebert are all about creating a welcoming atmosphere πŸ€—. Anyone else as excited as me for Emilia to open?! πŸ˜ƒ

Just found out about Emilia πŸπŸ‘Œ and I'm super stoked to try it out! Vernick's been missing from the scene for too long, but this new spot looks promising. Minimalist design? Sign me up! I love how they're keeping the focus on the food, not distractions. Meredith Medoway's Italian heritage is gonna shine through in those pasta dishes, and 60 seats vs 31 bar seats seems like a great balance. And can't wait to see what Vernick and Siebert have planned for this cozy East Kensington spot 🀞

So Vernick is finally back in the culinary scene with Emilia... been missing his spot at Vernick Food & Drink! 🀀 The Italian menu is looking promising, handmade pasta dishes always a winner for me! I'm so stoked for Emilia to finally open its doors 🀩! I mean, Vernick's been gone from the scene for like, six years, and it's been hard to find a new fave spot, you know? But this one sounds like it's gonna be the real deal - handmade pasta, cozy vibes, and all that Italian goodness πŸ˜‹. And can we talk about how chill the atmosphere is? 60 seats, minimal decor... I love that they're letting the food be the star of the show πŸ’–. I'm low-key obsessed with trying that pasta, and Meredith Medoway's story is so inspiring - her mom's cooking style had a major impact on her journey πŸ€—. Plus, the fact that they're making reservations 30 days in advance means we'll have to plan ahead if we wanna get in πŸ“…! Anyone else as hyped about Emilia as I am?

I'm so stoked for Greg Vernick and the team at Emilia! They're bringing a taste of Italy to East Kensington and I am HERE. FOR. IT πŸ’–. I love how they're keeping things minimalist with the design - it's all about the food, you know? And handmade pasta dishes? Yaaas, please 🍝. Meredith Medoway is literally speaking straight to my soul with her Italian heritage-inspired menu. It's like a big ol' hug in a bowl 😊. I'm also loving the cozy vibes of the 60-seat dining room - it feels like a little slice of Italy in Philly. Can't wait to book a reservation and get my pasta fix 🀩!

πŸ€” I'm kinda stoked about Emilia opening its doors, but also a bit skeptical πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ. Vernick's got some big shoes to fill after being away for six years, and it'll be interesting to see if he can maintain the same level of quality at his new spot. The Italian food scene is always evolving, so I hope they're able to bring something unique to the table 🍝. That minimalist vibe in the dining room sounds pretty cool tho πŸ‘Œ. Can't wait to try out Emilia and see what all the fuss is about! 😐

I'm super stoked to hear about Emilia 🀩! I mean, who doesn't love Italian food, right? And the fact that it's in East Kensington, which is already a lovely neighborhood, makes me think this place is gonna be a winner πŸ™Œ. I love how Vernick and Siebert are going for a minimalist vibe - sometimes less is more, you know? ✨ It sounds like they've really put thought into creating a cozy atmosphere where people can come together to enjoy some amazing food. And Meredith Medoway's menu? πŸ‘Œ totally inspired by her heritage and travels in Italy... I'm already imagining the pasta dishes 🍝! Reservations up to 30 days in advance, that's so convenient 😎. Can't wait to try it out and see what all the fuss is about πŸ’•

I'm low-key super stoked for Emilia to open its doors πŸ™Œ! I've been following Greg Vernick's journey for a bit now, and this new spot looks like it's gonna bring so much heart and soul to East Kensington ❀️. The fact that Meredith Medoway's menu is inspired by her own heritage and travels in Italy makes me wanna try everything ASAP 🀀. Plus, who doesn't love handmade pasta? 😍 I'm all about supporting local chefs and eateries that put love into their craft, and Emilia seems like the perfect addition to Center City's dining scene πŸ‘Œ

Just tried out Emilia and I'm OBSESSED πŸ’–πŸ! Greg Vernick's new Italian spot is giving me all the cozy vibes 🏠🍴 and Meredith Medoway's pasta dishes are to die for 🀩! The minimalist design is so on trend right now πŸ“ˆ, it allows the food to be the real star of the show. I loved how they incorporated personal touches through the decor, like family photos and vintage Italian posters πŸ“ΈπŸŽ¨. It feels like you're dining in your Nonna's kitchen but with way better pasta πŸπŸ˜‚! Can't wait to come back for more reservations are already booked for my next visit πŸ€«πŸ‘

🍝 I'm so stoked to hear that Greg Vernick is opening a new Italian spot, Emilia! 😊 After his six-year hiatus, it's awesome that he's back with a cozy restaurant that feels like a warm hug πŸ€—. The menu sounds amazing, especially the handmade pasta dishes - my stomach is growling just thinking about it! 🍴 Meredith Medoway's passion for Italian cuisine is palpable, and I love how she's drawing inspiration from her own heritage and food tours in Emilia-Romagna. Minimalist design might be out of style, but if it means the focus stays on the food, I'm all for it πŸ‘Œ. Can't wait to try Emilia and experience the magic for myself! πŸŽ‰

I'm not sure if I'm sold on this new spot just yet... 60 seats is pretty cozy, but it's also kinda tiny for a restaurant that's supposed to bring people together πŸ€”. And don't even get me started on the whole "minimalist design" thing - as much as I love pasta, I need some more visual interest than just plain old white walls and wooden chairs 😴. Have you seen the reviews from other food bloggers? Are they raving about it or is it still a work in progress?

I'm low-key hyped for Vernick's new spot Emilia, but also super curious if it'll live up to the hype πŸ€”. I mean, six years is a long time to be MIA from the food scene, and I need some convincing that this one's gonna be different. That said, Italian food is always a winner in my book 🍝, especially when it's homemade pasta 🍴. The minimalist vibe sounds kinda cool too, less is more, right? And hey, if they're already making reservations up to 30 days ahead, I guess people are stoked about it 😊. Now we just gotta wait and see how the food tastes...
