New York City residents can breathe a sigh of relief as they prepare for Halloween, with clear skies and strong winds expected to dominate the city's weather forecast. A wind advisory has been issued, warning of gusts reaching 30-40 miles per hour starting Friday afternoon - making flying weather perfect for those donning capes or carrying wands, but not ideal for outdoor decorations that could be swept away.
Meteorologist Matt Wunsch advises residents to tie down any lightweight items that could become airborne, citing inflatable cats, ghosts, and demons as prime candidates for lifting off. With the exception of some scattered showers earlier in the week, dry conditions are expected to prevail after Friday morning, when skies should begin to clear.
However, windy conditions will persist through the weekend, with gusts picking up on Saturday as a low-pressure system moves north. While the National Weather Service (NWS) assures that Sunday's weather for the New York City Marathon - clear skies, lighter breezes, and temperatures in the mid-50s - should provide ideal racing conditions.
Interestingly, Hurricane Melissa, which brought heavy rain to the region earlier this week, will have dissipated by the time it moves north. As a result, residents can expect no significant impact from the storm's remnants on Halloween festivities. Despite the gusty winds, the weekend forecast promises to be relatively dry and seasonable, making for a pleasant conclusion to the spooky celebrations.
