Hampus Lindholm to return to Bruins lineup Tuesday, Mason Lohrei a healthy scratch

The Boston Bruins will have their beleaguered blue line bolstered with the return of defenseman Hampus Lindholm on Tuesday. The 31-year-old, who had missed eight of the team's last nine games due to a lower-body injury, has been activated off injured reserve and is expected to resume his role in the lineup.

In order to accommodate Lindholm, the Bruins have assigned defenseman Michael Callahan back to Providence. Callahan was set to be scratched on Tuesday as part of a roster move that will also see defensemen Jonathan Aspirot make his NHL debut against the Islanders at TD Garden.

Lindholm's return is seen as a welcome boost for a Bruins blue line that has struggled defensively this season, ranking 29th in goals allowed per game and 32nd in shot attempts allowed at 5-on-5 play. His presence on the ice is expected to provide much-needed stability, having posted just six blocks over 45 minutes of ice time in three games for Boston.

According to head coach Marco Sturm, Lindholm's absence has been felt throughout the season. "He's a really good defenseman," Sturm said of Lindholm. "We saw it when he was in the lineup. We missed him, but again, there's no excuse for our defensive struggles. So we're just excited to have him back."

Lindholm's expected return on Tuesday will be his first game since October 18 and just his fourth game overall this season. Aspirot, who was a late call-up from Providence, is set to make his NHL debut and provides a spark of offense that has been lacking for the Bruins.

Meanwhile, Mason Lohrei, another defenseman, will be a healthy scratch on Tuesday as Sturm explained, "The biggest thing for him...and I did it with Casey [Mittelstadt], too. I think once in a while, it's good to scratch a player like that. We expect more from him, and sometimes we have to press that reset button."

man i'm so hyped about hampus lindholm coming back ๐Ÿ™Œ, the bruins blue line has been getting torched all season and it'll be nice to see some stability on defense. idk what's going on with michael callahan tho, being sent down to providence after being scratched just doesn't make sense. i get that linholm's return is a big boost but can't they find a way to keep callahan in the lineup? and aspirot making his debut vs the islanders will be cool to see, i've heard he's got some nice puck movement skills ๐Ÿคž hopefully this brings a spark to the team.

man, the Bruins are really struggling on defense this season ๐Ÿค• and now they're bringing back Hampus Lindholm... hopefully he can be the stabilizing force they need ๐Ÿ™. I mean, it's always tough when you lose a guy like him from your lineup, but at least they're making moves to try and get better ๐Ÿ’ช. Assigning Callahan to Providence might seem harsh, but I guess it's all about giving Aspirot a shot and maybe that'll be the spark they need ๐Ÿ”ฅ. And yeah, Mason Lohrei being a healthy scratch is kinda expected... Sturm's right, sometimes you gotta shake things up ๐Ÿ”„. Here's hoping Lindholm's return can bring some much-needed stability to their defense ๐Ÿ’ซ!

Yooo, I'm so hyped for Lindholm's return! The guy was missing a ton on D and now he's back ๐Ÿ™Œ. I know the coach said they saw what he brought when he was in, but let's be real, 3 games is not exactly a long sample size ๐Ÿ˜‚. Still, I think it's great that they're giving him another shot. And Aspirot making his debut? That's some nice upside! ๐Ÿคž Callahan being sent down though...not sure what the coach was thinking there ๐Ÿค”. But anyway, here's to Lindholm and hoping he brings stability back on D ๐Ÿ’ช

๐Ÿค” The arrival of Hampus Lindholm is like a breath of fresh air for the Bruins' blue line... but does it really solve the problem? I mean, think about it, they've been struggling defensively for months now. It's not just about having one more good defenseman on the ice, it's about consistency and chemistry. They need to figure out why they're getting burned so often ๐Ÿšจ. Is it a coaching issue? A systems problem? Or is it something deeper? Maybe they're just not buying into the team culture enough... I don't know, man. I'm still trying to wrap my head around this one ๐Ÿ˜•

omg so the bruins are trying out new defensemen because their old ones aren't doing well ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ they're basically saying "hey Hampy, come back save us from our own mistakes" ๐Ÿ˜‚ but seriously though, gotta love the call-up of aspirot, the kid's got game ๐ŸŽฎ, and mason lohrei gets to be healthy scratch because who doesn't love a good reset button ๐Ÿ’ก

๐Ÿค” Just thinking about the Bruins' blue line struggling defensively, makes me remember when I played hockey as a kid... we didn't even need stats or analytics back then, just hard work and team play! Now it's all about individual numbers and whatnot. Anyway, Hampus Lindholm's return is like a breath of fresh air for that unit - stability and experience are what they need. Hopefully this boost will translate to wins on the ice... my old hockey buddy always said, 'the bigger the goalie, the better' ๐Ÿ’๏ธ

omg i'm so hyped for Hampus Lindholm to return ๐Ÿคฉ, the Bruins blue line has been super shaky this season and he's one of their best defencemen... i feel like his presence will make a huge difference in their games ๐Ÿ‘. I also think it's cool that they're giving Aspirot a chance to debut, but at the same time, Mason Lohrei is getting benched ๐Ÿค”, do u think he'll be able to turn things around or was Sturm right about not wanting him on the ice? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

I'm intrigued by the Bruins' decision to assign Michael Callahan back to Providence ๐Ÿค”. It suggests that the team believes he still has room for growth and development before becoming a regular contributor at the NHL level ๐Ÿ“ˆ. Aspirot's call-up is an interesting move too, as it highlights the importance of finding spark plugs on defense who can help counterbalance the team's defensive struggles ๐Ÿ”ฉ. Lindholm's return is a welcome boost, but I wonder if Callahan's demotion will impact his ability to develop a strong rapport with the rest of the defense ๐Ÿค.

omg just saw the Bruins blue line is still super weak rn... 29th in goals allowed per game? ๐Ÿคฏ they need Lindsy ASAP... but meanwhile, another defenseman is getting benched lol what's up with Marco Sturm making decisions? ๐Ÿ™„ Mason Lohrei gets a healthy scratch and you're like "sometimes you gotta reset the button"... yeah good luck with that ๐Ÿ˜‚

๐Ÿ“Š๐Ÿ’ฅ So the Bruins are finally getting some help on D! ๐Ÿšจ Lindholm's return is a big boost, especially since they're 29th in goals allowed per game ๐Ÿคฏ. But I'm curious, what's been going on with their top D pairs? ๐Ÿ’ก Did you see the stats on Callahan's time in Providence? ๐Ÿ“ˆ He was averaging over 22 minutes of ice time with a +1 rating ๐Ÿ˜Ž Meanwhile, Aspirot makes his NHL debut and that's some exciting offense to talk about ๐Ÿ”ฅ! And Lohrei being scratched is interesting... did you know he had a -2 rating in 5 games last season? ๐Ÿค”

omg, can't wait 2 c Hampus Lindholm back on the ice! ๐Ÿ’ฅ he's literally been missed by the whole team & it's gonna be awesome 2 see him bring stability 2 their blue line ๐Ÿ˜Ž. Aspirot's debut is also gonna b lit ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ’ช, we need that spark of offense ASAP! ๐Ÿšจ and I'm curious 2 c how Lindholm's return will affect Mason Lohrei's playing time... maybe this is the push he needed? ๐Ÿค”

๐Ÿค” so great, another injury comes back into the mix... i mean, i guess having hampus lindholm back is supposed to be a big deal for them but let's be real, they've been struggling defensively this whole season... 29th in goals allowed per game? that's not something you can just "welcome" back with open arms. and now they're making michael callahan sit out in providence instead of keeping him up? what was the point of activating lindholm again if it's just gonna be a rotation of players? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ
