Uganda forward Rogers Mato has sealed a summer move to Scottish Premiership giants Heart of Midlothian FC, following an agreement with North Macedonian top-flight outfit Vardar. The 22-year-old has been in impressive form for Vardar this season, netting 15 goals and contributing two assists in 17 appearances.
Mato's decision to leave Vardar comes after the club took a significant lead at the top of their division, sitting one point clear of second-placed Struga. He is set to pen a three-year deal with Hearts, which will kick off in July following the expiry of his current contract.
A first-cap for his country came in 2022, and Mato has since scored eight international goals in 41 matches, including a consolation goal in an Africa Cup of Nations defeat by Nigeria last month. Starting his career at Proline and KCCA before joining Turkish outfit Sanliurfaspor in 2023, Mato moved to North Macedonia with AP Brera before making the switch to Vardar a year ago.
This summer's arrival of Mato will provide Hearts with another attacking threat, bolstering their squad ahead of an exciting few months.
