'He's a son of a bitch – but he's usually right': why did Seymour Hersh quit the film about his earth-shattering exposés?

🤔 As I watched Seymour Hersh's story unfold on screen, it was striking how the state of investigative journalism is eerily reflected in his own journey 📰. The barren landscape he describes, where even in a crowded city like New York, he went without seeing any sign of life, feels hauntingly familiar. What's concerning is that this sense of isolation isn't just due to Hersh himself but also the increasingly atomized media landscape 📺. Mark Obenhaus' commentary about gatekeepers being absent and information spreading quickly but also becoming unreliable hits close to home. Without institutions like legacy media outlets, it's indeed harder for good journalism to break through 💥. It's heartening to see Hersh continuing his work on Substack, allowing him to maintain his independence and tell the stories he believes in 📚.

this doco is so inspiring 🤩 I love how it showcases Seymour Hersh's passion for journalism, even if he's not afraid to speak truth to power 💪 his dedication to exposing injustices is truly admirable ❤️ and I gotta say, Laura Poitras' work on this doco is top notch 🎥 she really brings out the complexity of Hersh's personality 😊

omg u think journalism is still relevant lol? i mean don't get me wrong, Seymour Hersh is a legend and all but it sounds like he's just having an existential crisis rn 🤣. "the state of journalism is under siege" sounds like something a journalist would say when they can't get their story out fast enough 🕰️. newsflash: the first amendment isn't in danger, people just don't wanna listen to what u have to say anymore 📺. and btw who needs gatekeepers when u got social media? 💥

Ugh, another documentary that just showcases how broken our system is 🤯. Like, Seymour Hersh has been doing investigative journalism for decades and still sees the state of it all as under siege. He's basically a one-man protest against everything that's wrong with the media landscape right now 😩. And the fact that he has to resort to Substack just to keep his independence is wild - like, isn't that what legacy media was supposed to be for? 📰 Anyway, I do love how the documentary shows Hersh's prickly personality, though - it's not all sunshine and rainbows in this world of journalism 💔.
