A Powerful Arctic Cold Front Sweeps South Florida, Bringing Freezing Temperatures and Gusty Winds.
Saturday's forecast is set to take a dramatic turn as a powerful arctic cold front moves into the region. This morning's sunny skies will give way to widespread showers and perhaps even some thunderstorms before the front arrives later this afternoon.
As the cold air mass moves in, winds are expected to pick up sharply, with gusts reaching over 40 miles per hour. The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory for the entire Miami-Dade and Broward counties, which will be in effect from 2 PM Saturday through 7 AM Sunday.
When the sun sets on Saturday night, the strongest winds are expected to occur, blowing out of the northwest at speeds that will cause temperatures to plummet. Low temperatures are forecast to fall into the low to mid-30s across Miami-Dade and Broward, with wind chills dipping as low as 20°F in some areas.
To make matters worse, Miami is on track to tie its record low temperature of 36°F. The cold snap will also bring a Cold Weather Advisory to all of Miami-Dade and Broward, with Freeze Warnings issued for areas west of Krome Avenue, US-27, and the Sawgrass Expressway, where temperatures are expected to drop even lower.
Sunday will be an extremely cold day, with highs only reaching into the low 50s due to the windy conditions. It will feel more like the 40s throughout the day, but at least there's a chance of sunshine.
Monday will also be quite chilly, with widespread lows near 40°F and highs rebounding to the 60s. However, it's not until mid-next week that temperatures are expected to start warming up again. In the meantime, another cold front could potentially arrive by next weekend, bringing temperatures back down once more.
