‘Historic Holidays’ returns to Old City with open-street shopping, courtyard tree lighting and seasonal pop-ups

Old City's Holiday Season Kicks Off with a Flourish: A Celebration of Local Charm and Tradition.

As the mercury drops and winter settles in, Old City is transforming into a festive wonderland. The neighborhoodwide celebration, Historic Holidays, has returned to bring together local shops, historic charm, and a calendar full of seasonal events that showcase the very best of this iconic district.

On November 29th, Small Business Saturday kicks off the festivities with more than 300 independently owned shops, galleries, and restaurants offering exclusive deals and promotions. Shoppers can indulge in a holiday shopping extravaganza, kicking off America's most historic square mile into the season.

The tree lighting ceremony at the Betsy Ross House on December 3rd is another highlight of the Historic Holidays schedule. From 6 to 6:30 pm, live music and guest speakers set the tone for a magical evening. A special visit from Santa Claus completes the enchanting experience, making this event an unmissable fixture in Old City's holiday calendar.

In mid-December, Old City's streets come alive with the Holiday Shopping Sip & Stroll. On Saturday, December 6th, from noon to 4 pm, Third Street from Market to Arch will be closed to traffic, creating a pedestrian-friendly shopping experience that features seasonal drinks, entertainment, and special offers at nearly 30 businesses. Some highlights include colonial chocolate-making at the Betsy Ross House, adorable pet portraits at Opportunity Barks, festive cocktails at Khyber Pass Pub and Fringe Bar, and festive photos with Santa at The Gas Lamp Hotel.

The season concludes on December 14th with a Community Menorah Lighting ceremony at the Betsy Ross House. This event, held in partnership with the Old City Jewish Arts Center, marks an end to the festivities with warmth and inclusivity.

Old City's Historic Holidays offers something for everyone: from local charm to seasonal pop-ups, live events, and festive traditions that will leave a lasting impression on visitors and locals alike.

I think it would be awesome if they added some virtual event options too 🤔 so ppl can participate from home if they cant make it in person. It feels like theres somethin for every interest but i wish they had more eco-friendly options available 💚
