How Mike Vrabel ended up with a bloody lip during Patriots’ playoff win over the Chargers

Mike Vrabel, the New England Patriots head coach, suffered a bloody lip during Sunday's wild-card playoff game against the Los Angeles Chargers.

According to reports, Williams' helmet was left in Vrabel's mouth after a heated exchange on the field, but it appears that the coach will be alright despite his injury.

Vrabel appeared unfazed by the incident and even shared a laugh with his defensive tackle, highlighting the player's emotional response to securing New England's first playoff win since Super Bowl LIII.

The Patriots' defense was instrumental in their victory, with Williams finishing with two sacks as part of a six-sack display against Justin Herbert and the Chargers offense.

For Vrabel, this latest injury serves as a reminder that his job requires him to take risks and endure physical punishment. His willingness to be drenched in blood even in his first year as Patriots head coach has been put on full display.

The incident is not Vrabel's first time taking damage during the season; he suffered injuries in August after participating in a brawl between players from his team and the Washington Commanders.

Despite his own history of being injured, Williams' determination to lead his team to victory was undeniable.

omg did u no that mike vrabel got a bloody lip lol i wonder how intense that exchange was on the field anyway glad he's alright tho 🙏 i mean who else gets their helmet stuck in their mouth after a fight lol but seriously can't wait 2 c more of those pats games this season 💪

Ugh, coaches are literally the only ones who can afford to be all bruised and battered on the job 😂💉! I mean, come on Mike Vrabel, you're like a human pinata out there 🎂! But seriously, it's kinda impressive that he was still laughing with his player after getting a gash in his mouth 🤣. The Patriots' defense is on FIRE this season 🔥! And can we talk about Williams for a sec? Dude's been bringing the heat all game 💥💪. I'm not surprised he went off like that, considering how much was on the line for their team 🤑. Still, it's not every day you see a coach take a face full of blood and still manage to crack a smile 😂!

omg what a crazy scene on the field!! 😱 i feel bad for Mike Vrabel tho, bloody lip is no joke lol. glad he's alright though, that would've been super bad if it were one of those situations where they gotta pull him outta the game 🤕. Williams' helmet being left in his mouth though, yeah that's some next level heat 🔥. i love how Vrabel just laughed it off tho, shows a lot of leadership and emotional intelligence. and tbh, defense is always gonna be a crapshoot, but if they keep getting those 6-sack displays, they'll def make a deep run 🏈💪.

🤕 omg can you imagine getting hit with that much blood 🥊😷 vrbel's like "oh yeah i got a few cuts" lol what a coach 🤣 williams is literally my hero he didn't even flinch when his helmet got stuck in vrbel's mouth 💪 that's dedication right there 👏

Umm so Mike Vrable's lip got all bloody because someone left their helmet in his mouth... that's literally the most concerning thing I've heard all week 🤦‍♂️. Like, what even is this? The guy's first year as head coach and already he's getting pummeled on the field like a rookie (pun intended). On the bright side, it sounds like his team played pretty well and secured that playoff win, so I guess that's kinda cool... sorta 🤔.

I'm tellin' ya, this whole thing with Mike Vrabel's bloody lip looks suspiciously staged 🤔💉. Like, how does that just happen in a heated exchange on the field? And what's up with Williams' helmet just chillin' in Vrabel's mouth like that? It's all too convenient. I mean, I get it, football can be rough, but this is like something out of a WWE match 🤺♂️. And don't even get me started on the fact that Vrabel was laughing it off with his player afterwards... sounds like he might've been in on it all along 😏.

🤣 bloody lip? sounds like just another Sunday for Bill Belichick's favorite whipping boy... but seriously, can't believe Vrabel took one for the team 💉🏈 and still managed to keep it together after that whole helmet-in-mouth thing 🤪👀. The fact that he laughed it off with his defensive tackle is like, totally on-brand for a coach who's clearly been through the wringer before 🔥💔. And dude, 6 sacks? that's just embarrassing for the opposing team 😂. Guess you could say Vrabel proved once again why they call him 'The Sniper' 🎯... from the sidelines, where it's safe and not covered in blood 💦

man that helmet got stuck in vrbel's mouth lol what a crazy game! i feel bad for the coach though, all those years in the league and he still gets taken down like that. it's funny how serious we get about player safety but coaches are just expected to take it, like they're invincible or something 🤣

anyway, props to wiliams for stepping up and making a game of it. his team needed him and he delivered 💪. maybe the pats should have some kind of "coach helmet retrieval service" just kidding (kinda) 😂

omg this guy willsby is just too intense lol 😂🏈 i feel bad for the coach though, that's gotta hurt 🤕 but at the same time he's all about getting results and leading his team to a win 💪 u gotta respect that kinda dedication even if it means taking some risks & getting knocked around 🤯

lolol what a coach!!! 🤣 i mean seriously tho, mike vrabel is like the ultimate tough guy 😂 he's always putting himself out there on that field even when it comes to taking hits (literally) 💉 and it's so inspiring to see him keep laughing with his players after being all bloodied up 😂 especially since we all know coaching isn't for the faint of heart... vrabel's got some serious guts! 👊

omg what a wild scene that must've been on the field lol i wonder if williams is okay now 🤕 after all that physicality, you'd think coaches would get some extra protection but i guess it's part of the job? vrabel seems like a cool dude though, sharing laughs with his player despite getting hurt pretty badly. i'm glad he's alright tho! did the patriots win that game without vrabel for too long though? and has williams ever gotten into trouble off the field?

OMG 🤯 that's crazy! Mike Vrabel is like totally fine, though, so don't worry about him 😅. I mean, two sacks in one game is insane for Williams, he must be so pumped after that win 💥. The thing that got me was the helmet situation tho... who leaves a helmet in their mouth 🤪? But seriously, Vrabel's all good and even seems to be enjoying the drama 😂.

As for his coaching job, I think it's awesome that he's willing to take risks and get hurt - it says a lot about his leadership skills 💪. And on the flip side, Williams' dedication is super inspiring 🙌. I'd love to see more of these kinds of plays in the future... just gotta make sure everyone's safe 😊!

omg that's crazy 😱 - can u imagine getting blood all over ur face during a game?! 💉😂 i mean, it's not like mike vrabel is new to taking hits on the field lol he was part of a brawl in august and stuff 🤯 anyway, kudos to him for being a pro and laughing about it with his player 🙌 and that defensive tackle wills has some serious game 💪🏽 two sacks ain't nothing! 🤷‍♂️ but for real, the patriots' defense was on fire yesterday and it's awesome to see them finally getting those playoff wins 🎉💥

This whole thing with Mike Vrabel and that helmet is wild 🤯 I mean, who needs dental insurance when you're coaching in the NFL? 😂 The fact that he's still standing after getting a face full of blood is more impressive than his team's win itself. On one hand, it shows how tough he is as a coach, but on the other hand, it's kinda crazy that he's already been through this before and thought it was nothing 🤷‍♂️. And Williams' reaction? More like "I just got my guy out of trouble" than "Oh no, we're gonna lose everything now" 😅

I'm still trying to figure out why some football helmets just don't have those spring-loaded chin straps that keep them from flying off when you're getting slammed into... I mean, it's not like it would've made a huge difference in this case, but still 🤔🏈. And can we talk about how amazing it is to see coaches and players just owning their emotions on the field? Vrabel just being chill after getting his lip bled out is honestly my spirit animal 💁‍♂️. I swear, some of these football games are like soap operas – all that drama and trash talk... but hey, at least it's entertaining 📺!

😅 Mike Vrabel is one tough dude! I mean, who needs a helmet when you're about to get taken down by some angry Chargers player? 🤣 Still, gotta feel for the guy, bloody lip and all. The Patriots' defense looked 🔥 on Sunday, though - six sacks is no joke! Williams' reaction was pretty intense, but hey, it's all worth it if it means a win. 💪

😂 oh man that coach is literally made of tough stuff! I mean i feel bad for him that he got hurt but at the same time 🤣 how many ppl can say they left their helmet in someone's mouth after a fight? 😂 the player must be so grateful to have such an awesome team behind him, and btw who gets 2 sacks on the opposing team in a playoff game? 💥

omg lol @ mike vrabel!!! 😂🤯 bloody lip and all! cant blame him tho 4 keepin it real & showin his emotions on the field 🤝💪 thats wat makes him so likable imo he's like a big ol teddy bear coach who's not afraid to get hurt 2 lead his team 2 victory 💥🏈 & btw, williams' helmet incident is pretty wild lol how does that even happen?! 😂🙅‍♂️

This guy Mike Vrabel is like totally crazy lol 😂 I mean, who leaves their helmet in someone's mouth? That's just wild 🔪! But for real, the dude must be made of tough stuff to keep on going after that kinda injury 💪🏽. The Patriots' defense was fire last night, and it's awesome that they were able to come out on top 🎉. And Williams is like a total beast on the field 🤯, I love how he just goes for it no matter what! 💥
