HPD officer relieved of duty following child endangerment charge for allegedly racing car: Records

Off-Duty HPD Officer Arrested for Child Endangerment After Drag Racing Incident

A Houston Police Department officer has been relieved of duty after he was arrested and charged with child endangerment following a reckless drag racing incident involving an 8-year-old child.

According to court records, the suspect, identified as Giovoinni-Quinn Gumataotao, was driving at speeds exceeding 130 miles per hour on Thursday night when he was pulled over by deputies. It was later discovered that the vehicle contained an 8-year-old child, prompting immediate action from authorities.

Gumataotao, who has been with the Houston Police Department since January 2024, faces felony charges of child endangerment and misdemeanor drag racing. The officer has been released on bond pending a court appearance scheduled for January 20.

The incident has raised serious concerns about the safety of children in the community, particularly when it comes to law enforcement officers who are expected to uphold the highest standards of professionalism and integrity. As an HPD employee, Gumataotao's actions have not only put himself at risk but also that of the child he allegedly endangered.

The department has confirmed Gumataotao's employment status and stated that he will no longer be on duty pending the outcome of his court case. The exact nature of the incident is still under investigation, but one thing is clear: such reckless behavior by law enforcement officers will not be tolerated in the community.

🚨 this whole thing got me thinking about how our heroes can sometimes become our biggest villains... like, i get it, everyone needs a break now and then, but dragging your car out on the highway with an 8-year-old inside? that's just insane... I mean, what if he'd gotten into an accident or something? the thought of it still keeps me up at night 🤯. as for gumataotao, i hope he gets his act together and learns from this mistake 'cause, honestly, who needs a badge when you're not gonna follow the rules? the worst part is that we're putting our trust in these officers to keep us safe, but sometimes they just don't measure up... 🤷‍♂️.

I don’t usually comment but... this is crazy 🤯! I mean, as a parent, it's devastating to think about an 8-year-old child being put in harm's way because of someone supposed to protect and serve. It's just common sense that you can't have cops drag racing at speeds over 130mph with kids around 😩. You gotta wonder what was going through this officer's head - must be a huge lapse in judgment and professionalism. I'm glad the HPD is taking it seriously, but really? We need to make sure these kinds of incidents don't happen again... and for everyone's sake! 💪

omg did u hear abt this? so some cop is getting in so much trouble 4 drag racin wit a kid in the car like wut is wrong wit these people?? i mean i no cops got 2 make split second decisions but c'mon!! 130 miles per hour wit an 8 year old child in the vehicle?? that's just crazy! i hope the little dude is doin ok 🤕🚨

Omg this is so disturbing 🚨💔 I mean I know we all need a break now and then but drag racing with an 8-year-old in the car?! That's just on another level 😱 What were they even thinking?! It's one thing to have fun with your kids, it's another thing entirely to put their lives at risk like that. And an HPD officer? The person who's supposed to be protecting and serving our community? Not exactly the role model we want them to be 🤦‍♂️. I'm just so glad the kid is safe and all, but this incident has left a bad taste in my mouth 👅.

🚨 This is so messed up 🤯! I mean, who does this to a 8-yr-old kid? Not only did he put that kid's life at risk, but he was drag racing too... like, what's wrong with people these days? 😒 As for the officer being relieved of duty, about time too 🙌. I don't think any cop should be allowed to get away with this kind of reckless behavior, not even off-duty. The department needs to take a closer look at their vetting process and make sure they're hiring people who are more responsible than just getting behind the wheel. And let's be real, it's not just about the kid's safety, it's also about setting a good example for all those young officers-in-training 🤝.

🤯 I'm literally shook by this news! Like, what were they thinking?! Drag racing with an 8-year-old child in the car? It's just insane! As a parent myself, I can only imagine how scared and traumatized that little kid must be feeling right now 🤕. The officer involved should get max time for this - child endangerment is no joke! The fact that he's just on bond though makes me so frustrated... it's like the system is all messed up 🙄. And can we talk about the whole "he was just trying to have fun" narrative? Newsflash: there's a reason drag racing is illegal, folks! It's not just about speed, it's about putting lives at risk 💨.

😕 This is a super concerning story! I mean, who lets an 8-year-old hitch a ride to drag racing? 🚗💨 It's like, what were they thinking?! As for Officer Gumataotao, I don't think he should be on duty again anytime soon. I get that everyone makes mistakes, but this is just plain irresponsible. 🤦‍♂️ And yeah, it raises some serious questions about how law enforcement can keep the community safe when you've got officers putting themselves and innocent kids at risk like this. 🚔👮‍♂️

😱 this guy's a role model?? I just can't even... how does something like that happen? an 8-year-old kid and some cop goes drag racing like it's no big deal?! 🚗💨 what if he'd crashed or gotten hurt?! I'm so furious about this, it's unacceptable. HPD needs to do a lot more than just take him off duty, they need to hold him accountable for his actions 🤬
