'I was knocked for six': Zander Fagerson on his Lions injury despair and Glasgow's European quest

"Six months after a devastating injury saga, Glasgow Warriors' Zander Fagerson is feeling reborn. The 29-year-old prop, father of four, has been on an emotional rollercoaster, but he's emerged from the shadows with a renewed sense of purpose.

Fagerson's story began last year, when he was part of the British & Irish Lions team that fell short in Australia. However, his own career was dealt a significant blow just days before the tour when he suffered another calf injury. The pain and disappointment were overwhelming – "it was brutal" – but Fagerson refused to give up.

Instead, he channeled his emotions into making the most of a situation that could have easily derailed his life. He took his family on an unforgettable holiday to Asia, which provided much-needed respite from his own personal struggles.

Now, as Glasgow remain unbeaten in the Champions Cup and set to face Saracens at Scotstoun, Fagerson is back fit and firing – although not quite match-fit just yet. The prospect of leading Scotland into the Six Nations also brings a renewed sense of excitement and purpose.

Despite the loss of Huw Jones and Adam Hastings to Toulon and Montpellier respectively, Fagerson remains optimistic that his team will continue to thrive. "We want to win every game we play," he says with characteristic enthusiasm.

As Fagerson approaches his 30th birthday on January 19, he acknowledges that life is a journey, not a destination. He's come to accept that age brings its own set of challenges, but also opportunities for growth and renewal.

For this Scottish rugby star, the key to success lies in finding balance between family life and professional demands. As a father of four under seven, Fagerson knows what it takes to keep his priorities straight – "the kids have been trying to hide bits of artwork for me," he laughs.

As Glasgow look to push their Champions Cup ambitions further, Fagerson is eager to prove himself once more. He's no longer defined by injury or heartbreak; instead, he's a warrior on the brink of new glory, armed with an unshakeable faith in his own abilities and those of his teammates.

💡 so i wonder what inspired zander fagerson to take that holiday to asia? was it just a random break or did someone suggest it to him? 🤔 he seems like the type who would actually enjoy spending time with his family, but at the same time, he's still super driven about rugby. does he think being a dad is affecting his game or is he finding ways to balance both? 🏉👧 and omg, i love how humble he is - "we want to win every game" sounds so nice to hear! 😊

🤸‍♂️ I feel like Zander Fagerson is giving me major motivation vibes! 🌟 Being part of a sports team can be tough, especially when you're dealing with injuries and setbacks, but it's amazing how he bounced back from all that. And I love how he prioritizes his family life - being a good dad is just as important as crushing it on the field! 😊👨‍👦 Having balance in life is key, you know? It's not about winning or losing, but about taking care of yourself and those around you. Fagerson seems like a total rockstar for finding that balance and coming out stronger on the other side. 💪

Aww, that's amazing to read about Zander Fagerson's journey! 🤩 I can imagine how tough it must've been for him to deal with two major injuries and still manage to keep going. But instead of letting it break him, he used it as a chance to reconnect with his family and find new balance in life. That's so inspiring! 💖 It's clear that he's found a way to channel his emotions into something positive, and now he's back stronger than ever. I love how humble he is too, acknowledging the challenges of getting older but still staying focused on what matters most - his family and team. He's living proof that life is about growth, not just winning! 🌱💪

🏉💪 I gotta feel for this guy Zander Fagerson, his story is so inspiring! Being part of the British & Irish Lions team only to get injured days before the tour is a tough break, but he's used it as an opportunity to spend quality time with his family and recharge. That's what we all need sometimes - a reminder that life goes on even when things don't go as planned 🌴👪. As for Glasgow Warriors, they're looking strong this season and Fagerson is back fit and firing, just not quite match-fit yet 😅. We can't wait to see him lead Scotland into the Six Nations! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿💥

😊🏉 So they're saying Zander Fagerson is like this totally strong guy who's been through some super tough stuff but still manages to come out on top 🤯. I mean, you feel for the dude, right? 😔 He had to deal with a bunch of injuries and all that... it's not easy being a rugby star 🏈. But what I like about him is how he's got his priorities straight – family first, then rugby 💪. And I think that's really important, you know? Because when life gets tough (and trust me, it will get tough) 🤯, you need people who are gonna be there for you, no matter what 😊. Fagerson seems like one of those guys 🤝.

🤔 This guy Zander Fagerson seems like a total inspiration... but is it really just that? I mean, think about it, he gets injured before the tour, but then takes this amazing holiday to Asia with his family - sounds like a great excuse to avoid the team, if you ask me 🤷‍♂️. And now he's back and more determined than ever... maybe there's more to this story than meets the eye 😏. Plus, what's with all the emphasis on "finding balance" between family life and professional demands? Sounds like a clever way to keep him from getting too close to the truth about the team's performance 🤫. Still, I gotta respect his spirit - maybe he'll prove me wrong... but I'm not holding my breath 😂.

🤣 this guy Fagerson sounds like a total baller, gets hurt, but still finds a way to keep it together and make the most of it... took his fam on a sick holiday to Asia and now he's back and ready to slay the Six Nations 🏉💪 30 & feeling fine, just like my old mate Dave 😂

omg Zander Fagerson is literally my spirit animal 🙌💪 i mean have you seen this guy's story? from being part of the lions to breaking down due to injury and then finding a way to channel his emotions into making the most of it... he's just so inspiring 😍 i love how he's not defined by his past injuries anymore, he's like a phoenix rising from the ashes 🌟🔥 and the fact that he's prioritizing his family life is so admirable 👨‍👧‍👦 fam over football all day erry day 💯

Zander Fagerson's comeback story is so inspiring 🙌! I mean, who wouldn't want to take a break from rugby after a tough injury saga & come back even stronger? 😅 The fact that he's focusing on balance between family life & professional demands is exactly what we need in sports – it's not just about the game, it's about being a role model too! 🙏 His kids trying to 'hide' his artwork is literally the sweetest thing ever 🎨💕. I'm really rooting for him & Glasgow Warriors to do well in the Champions Cup this season 💪🔥

I gotta say, Zander Fagerson's comeback story is pretty inspiring 🤩, but let me break it down for you - if he was part of the British & Irish Lions team that fell short in Australia last year, that means they lost to the Springboks, right? So, he suffered another calf injury just days before the tour, which is a big deal. And then, to make matters worse, his own career was dealt another significant blow 🤦‍♂️.

Now, I'm not saying his holiday in Asia wasn't needed or that he didn't use it wisely - but let's get real, he's a rugby player, not a vacation expert 😂. And what's with the "we want to win every game" thing? That's an easy statement, but how about some actual analysis on their strengths and weaknesses? Still, I'll give him props for keeping his priorities straight as a dad of four 🤝.

I'm so stoked for Zander Fagerson! 🤩 Like, who needs to be match-fit when you've got a family that's all about supporting you, right? 😂 His holiday to Asia sounds like the ultimate detox from injury woes – I mean, who wouldn't want to chill in the sun with four mini-mes running around? 🌴👧🏻

But seriously, 29 and still bringing it, Zander! 🙌 As a dad of four, he's got the whole work-life balance thing down pat – even if his kids are trying to sabotage him by hiding their artwork 😉. And with Glasgow Warriors on fire and the Six Nations on the horizon, I'm predicting a big year for this Scottish rugby star! 🔥

omg i'm so inspired by zander fagerson's journey 🤩🏉! it's like he took all the negative vibes from that tough time and turned them into fuel for his comeback 💥. finding balance between family life and professional demands is key, imo 🙌. as a parent myself, i know how hard it can be to juggle responsibilities, but it sounds like zander has got his priorities on track 👍. and now he's leading scotland into the six nations? that's just amazing!!! 🇬🇧💪

omg u no wat about zander fagerson?? 😂 he's like literally reborn after all that drama last year i feel bad 4 him 'cause he had to deal w/ calf injuries & being part of the lions team, but now im so hyped for him!! 🔥 he's back on track & leadin his team 2 victory, i mean who wouldn't wanna watch a pro rugby player crush it on the pitch? 💪 let's get behind zander 'n the glasgow warriors! 🏉👍

man 🤔 this guy Zander Fagerson is like total inspiration 💪 he went through so much pain and disappointment but instead of giving up he turned it into a blessing 🙏 for his family and himself, taking them on an epic holiday to Asia 😎 and now he's back stronger than ever 🔥 he's got the right attitude too, not getting too caught up in what could've been 🤷‍♂️ but focusing on the present and the future, which is all about balance between family life and his rugby career 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 i mean, who wouldn't want to be a dad of four under seven 😆 and have artwork hidden around for their parents? 🎨 love this guy's vibe 💕

I think Zander Fagerson's story is super inspiring 🤩! I mean, who wouldn't want to take a break from rugby and travel to Asia with their family after going through so much? It sounds like he really needed that time to recharge. And now he's back on the pitch, feeling like himself again 🔥. I love how he's prioritizing his family life too – it's not always easy to balance work and personal stuff, but he seems to have found a good rhythm. I'm excited to see him lead Scotland in the Six Nations! 👏

I'm loving Zander Fagerson's comeback story 💪🏻! Six months ago, I was worried he'd never play rugby again 🤕, but now he's back on the pitch, leading Scotland into the Six Nations 🔴🏉! His family holiday to Asia was a great idea – who needs rehab when you can have beach time and quality time with the kids? 😂🌴 But seriously, Fagerson's approach to life is so inspiring – finding balance between family and rugby is key 💕. And 30th birthday or not, he's still got it 🔥! What's next for Glasgow Warriors? Bring on Saracens at Scotstoun! 🏉💥

🤣 I mean, who needs a beach vacation when you can just take your family on a emotional rollercoaster ride? Zander Fagerson sounds like a real winner 🏆, I love how he's channeling his pain into making the most of it... not exactly the most inspiring story, but hey, at least he's got his priorities straight - kids' artwork vs. rugby games, that's some quality family time 💪. 30 and still going strong, can't wait to see what this old warrior has up his sleeve 🎯
