ICE agent says they ‘don’t need a warrant’ to arrest people

Federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents have been claiming that they do not need a warrant to make arrests, sparking controversy among civil liberties groups. According to recent footage obtained by Al Jazeera, an ICE agent can be seen telling a Jersey City councilperson that "we don't need a warrant" to detain individuals.

The video shows Councilman Jake Ephros approaching an ICE agent who is arresting a man at a light rail station. Ephros asks the agent if they have a warrant and what they took from the individual, only to be told that the agency did not require one for the arrest.

This revelation raises concerns about the lack of oversight and accountability within the US immigration system. Critics argue that ICE's assertion that it can make arrests without a warrant is in direct contravention of due process rights enshrined in the Fourth Amendment of the US Constitution.

Critics also point out that the practice of making arrests without a warrant may lead to innocent people being detained and held for extended periods, without access to legal representation or due process. This is particularly concerning given the history of racial profiling and targeting certain communities by ICE.

As tensions rise over the government's handling of immigration policies, many are left wondering if the assertion that ICE can make arrests without a warrant is just another example of the erosion of civil liberties in America.

🤔 The fact that ICE agents think they don't need a warrant to make an arrest is super concerning - it's like, what's next? They're gonna start showing up at people's homes and taking them away without any notice or cause? 🚨 It's like, we have laws in place for a reason, you know? The Fourth Amendment is there to protect us from arbitrary detention and abuse of power. If ICE can just make an arrest whenever they feel like it, that's a recipe for disaster. And let's not forget about the racial profiling aspect - it's already happened too many times, we can't just ignore that part anymore. 😬 The government needs to get its act together and figure out how to handle immigration in a way that respects due process and doesn't target certain communities unfairly. It's time for some real reform, not just more of the same old policies that are only hurting people 🤷‍♀️

ICE agents think they can just pick ppl up whenever they want? 🤔🚫 That's not how the 4th Amendment works fam... It's all about having probable cause and following due process. Arrests without warrants = no checks, no balances, and a whole lotta civil liberties being stripped away. What's next, just letting ICE make arrests at random? We need some serious oversight here...

I mean, think about it... 🤔 If we're worried about due process rights and all that, maybe we should start questioning our own systems too? I'm not saying we need to let people just walk free whenever they want, but come on, there's gotta be some balance here. And what's the point of having a councilperson at a light rail station in the first place if they're not gonna do their due diligence? 😂 Like, Councilman Jake Ephros was just doing his job and asking questions... doesn't mean he should get in trouble for it! 🤷‍♂️ Can we talk about how some people get to make these kind of decisions without any accountability? It's like, what's the end goal here?

I'm low-key freaking out about this ice situation 🤯... how is it even possible for them to claim they don't need a warrant? like, isn't due process a thing in america? 🤔 we gotta make sure that everyone's being treated fairly and not just targeted because of their background or whatever. I'm all for making America safe, but not at the expense of our civil rights, you feel? 🙅‍♂️... and can we talk about how this is super problematic given the history of racial profiling with ice? it's just not cool, fam 😒... we gotta hold them accountable for their actions. 👮‍♀️

I'm so done with these forums 🤯. Can't we have a real discussion about this without all the drama and assumptions? Like, let's focus on the facts - ICE agents claiming they don't need a warrant to make arrests is super concerning. The fact that they can just claim that and walk away from it is even more worrying.

I'm not saying we should be okay with anyone doing whatever they want without being held accountable, but at the same time, I think we need to have a calm and rational conversation about this. I mean, who's against due process rights? 🙅‍♂️ The Fourth Amendment is there for a reason, folks! We can't just let ICE run amok without anyone questioning their actions.

I'm not sure what the solution is, but we need to start having more nuanced conversations about this stuff. Can we please keep the discussions civil and focused on the facts? 🤔

idk what's going on with ice lately 🤔... they're basically saying they can just show up wherever and arrest people w no warrant? that's straight outta bad cop tv 😱. we need to make sure our rights aren't being trampled all over the place. it's not just about immigrants, either - what happens when this kind of thing goes down in your neighborhood? you'd better believe there'll be a whole lotta outrage when innocent people get swept up in the chaos 🚨. how are we supposed to trust our law enforcement agencies if they're gonna start acting like they're above the law? 🤷‍♂️

🤔 this is so messed up ... i mean, come on, no warrants? thats like something out of a bad cop show... and its not even like they have to go through some kinda formal procedure or anything... the 4th amendment is literally there for a reason lol... what's next? is everyone gonna be like "oh yeah, we don't need no stinkin' rules"? 🚫 and btw, those communities that get targeted by ICE are still dealing with PTSD from all the profiling they've gone through in the past... can't just sweep this under the rug and say everything is cool again 😒

I'm totally freaked out about this ICE thing 🤯... I mean, I get it, they gotta enforce laws and all, but come on! If they don't need a warrant to detain someone, that's like, basic human rights kinda stuff 💔. My grandma always told me that due process is everything, and now it seems like the government's just disregarding that. What if that guy in Jersey City was innocent? 🤔 Wouldn't he want his day in court or at least some quality time with a lawyer? It's wild how ICE thinks they're above the law, but really, we all need to stay vigilant and make sure our voices are heard 💪. This is just another reason why we need more transparency and accountability in our government 📺.
