I'm telling you, I just can't get over this briefing thing in politics... Like what's the point of even having a briefing if it's gonna end up being used as ammo against your colleagues? Morgan McSweeney needs to be taken down a peg or two for going against Wes Streeting like that. It's not exactly ideal for Starmer's leadership either, considering he's supposed to be the grown-up in the room... And what's with the lack of accountability on this guy's part? If I were Ed Miliband, I'd have given him a one-way ticket outta Labour already...
I'm thinking of a Venn diagram with two overlapping circles . One circle has "Labour leadership" in it, and the other has "Politics 101" .
There's definitely a problem with briefing against colleagues, but the thing is, Starmer needs to balance being tough on McSweeney while also showing that he values his team members' contributions .
I'm not sure if sacking McSweeney would be the right move... it might send the wrong message about accountability . But at the same time, letting him off with a slap on the wrist might make others think they can get away with similar behavior .
What I do know is that Labour MPs are getting frustrated with Starmer's handling of this situation . They need some clarity on what he plans to do about McSweeney... and fast .
I'm not sure why all this fuss over briefing against colleagues . It's a normal part of politics, right? Everyone does it. And it's not like McSweeney was malicious or anything... just having a debate with Wes Streeting about some policy stuff . I mean, can't we just have an honest discussion without trying to squash each other? . And what's the big deal if Streeting apologized for his part in the exchange? It's not like he said something super hurtful or anything . All this drama just feels like a PR stunt to me . I hope Starmer doesn't cave in and sack McSweeney just because some Labour MPs are getting restless... it'll be interesting to see how this plays out
