In ‘Selena Y Los Dinos,” Never-Seen Home Videos Capture Star’s Charm And Vision

Thirty Years Later, A New Glimpse into Selena's Life and Legacy Through Intimate Footage and Rare Archival Videos.

A new documentary titled "Selena y Los Dinos" brings the story of the late Tejano music icon to life in a way that never has been seen before. The film uses rare archival footage, including home videos and interviews with Selena's family members, to paint an intimate portrait of her rise from a child singer in a family band to becoming one of the most successful artists of all time.

The documentary is directed by Isabel Castro, who spent two years building the film from thousands of hours of footage stored in "the vault" - the Quintanilla family's personal archives. The result is a deeply personal account that showcases Selena's voice and shares her own words, as well as those of her loved ones.

The film explores how Selena's journey began with her family band performing at their Tex-Mex restaurant in Lake Jackson, Texas, before eventually becoming a star in the Spanish-language music industry. It also shows how she was driven by a sense of purpose and ambition, often speaking about her dreams of fashion, entrepreneurship, and using her platform to bring people together.

The documentary is not just a nostalgic look back at Selena's life; it's an exploration of the power and joy that she embodied through her music. The film prioritizes her voice and focuses on showcasing her legacy as a symbol of Latino culture and bicultural identity.

In interviews, those closest to Selena share their perspectives on key moments in her life, revealing how young they all were when they achieved success. The family also talks about the pain of losing Selena at just 23 years old and how it continues to shape their lives today.

The documentary avoids sensationalizing Selena's tragic death but instead emphasizes the importance of moving forward with her legacy. It encourages viewers to continue dreaming and not give up on their ambitions, a message that was always close to Selena's heart.

"Selena y Los Dinos" premieres on Netflix November 17th and offers fans a fresh perspective on the life and legacy of one of music's most beloved icons.

I don't know about this new documentary... it sounds like they're trying to cash in on Selena's legend by releasing all this intimate footage and rare archival videos. I mean, we've seen her music and performances before, but this just seems like a way for the Quintanilla family to profit from her memory. And what's with Netflix premiering it? Can't they just let it play out in theaters like normal documentaries?

Also, I'm not sure why they're focusing so much on Selena's personal life and relationships. It feels like we're getting a watered-down version of her story instead of the real deal. Where are the critics, where are the historians? This just seems like another way to commercialize someone's legacy without giving it any real substance.

And have you seen the director, Isabel Castro? I've never heard of her before. What makes her qualified to tell Selena's story? It just feels like a bunch of hollywood producers trying to make a quick buck off someone's memory... 🤑😒

OMG you guys, I'm low-key hyped for this new docu on Selena 🤩. I mean, who doesn't love a good behind-the-scenes look at a legendary artist? It's like we're finally getting the tea on what really went down in the life of this music icon 💁‍♀️. Two years of sifting through thousands of hours of footage (that's some serious dedication 🤯) and Isabel Castro is giving us an intimate portrait of Selena that's like... wow, just so much. I love how it highlights her passion for fashion and entrepreneurship - girl was a true trailblazer 💃. And can we talk about the message she spread through her music? It's still just as relevant today 🎶. Bring on the feels, bring on the nostalgia, and bring on this docu on Netflix in November 📺!

OMG, I'M SO EXCITED FOR THIS NEW DOCU ABOUT SELENA!!! 🤩 IT'S LIKE, WE'VE SEEN SO MUCH FOOTAGE OF HER BEFORE, BUT THIS ONE SOUNDS LIKE IT'S GOING TO GIVE US A WHOLE NEW INSIGHT INTO HER LIFE AND LEGACY!!! 🎉 I MEAN, USING THOUSANDS OF HOURS OF ARCHIVAL FOOTAGE IS CRAZY!!! AND THAT THE DIRECTOR SPENT TWO YEARS BUILDING THE FILM FROM SCRATCH IS JUST WOW!!! 💥 I HOPE IT DOESN'T SENSATIONALIZE HER DEATH TOO MUCH, BUT IF IT'S ALL ABOUT KEEPING HER LEGACY ALIVE AND INSPRING PEOPLE TO DREAM BIG, THEN I'M ALL FOR IT!!! 🙌

omg i just watched the trailer for this new selena documentary and i'm already emotional 🤯 i wasnt born yet when she passed so all i know is her music but it looks like its gonna be really deep and personal... did they find any info about what happened in the last few days leading up to her death?

i also saw that it features some rare archival videos from selena's family archive - thats cool, im sure that must be super interesting to watch. does anyone know if there will be a special behind-the-scenes look at how the documentary was made?

u know what would be really great though? if they did a part on her fashion sense... i mean, she had some of the sickest outfits back in the day 🙌

🎉🕺 I'm so hyped for this new documentary, it sounds like an amazing tribute to Selena 🙏! The fact that they're using rare archival footage and interviews with her family members is going to give us a really intimate look at her life and legacy 📹. I love how the doc is focusing on showcasing her power and joy through music 🎶, it's so true that she embodied this energy and continues to inspire people all these years later 💖. The message of not giving up on your ambitions is so important, especially for young people who are trying to make a name for themselves in the music industry 🌟. Can't wait to watch it on Netflix November 17th! 📺

I'm low-key obsessed with this new documentary about Selena 🤩. It's so cool that they dug up all those old home videos and family interviews to put together this intimate portrait of her life. I mean, who wouldn't want to see Selena as a little kid singing in the Tex-Mex restaurant where it all started? 😂 But what I love most about this doc is how it highlights her drive and ambition - she was always chasing her dreams and never gave up on herself.

It's also super refreshing that the documentary prioritizes Selena's voice and legacy over just being a nostalgic look back at her life. The film really captures her spirit and message of using your platform to bring people together, which is so inspiring. 🌟 I'm definitely gonna check this out when it drops on Netflix - can't wait to see a fresh perspective on my girl Selena 💖

man this documentary is gonna be so emotional watching selena's family go through those interviews lol i remember being like 10 when she passed away, my abuela used to play her songs all the time and it was always so vibrant in our house now they're finally sharing these intimate vids and it's gonna be crazy how much we can see behind the scenes of her life 📹🎉 selena's spirit is still alive through her music and this doc is gonna show us that even after 30 yrs, she's still inspiring ppl to chase their dreams 💖

I mean, it's about time we got another documentary on Selena, right? 🙃 The fact that they found all this intimate footage and archival videos is pretty cool, but I'm not sure if 30 years late is too long to be releasing a doc like this. I mean, wouldn't it have been better to get it out sooner after she passed away? Maybe it's just me, but I feel like we're getting old news at this point 🤷‍♀️.

But hey, Isabel Castro did an amazing job building the film from all those hours of footage, so props to her for that! The fact that they're prioritizing Selena's voice and legacy is awesome, and it's great to see her family sharing their perspectives on key moments in her life. And can we talk about how inspiring Selena's story is? I mean, who wouldn't want to be a star at 23 and then have to deal with all that drama before they even got started? 😂

But seriously, I think the documentary does a great job of showcasing Selena's power and joy through her music, and it's really interesting to see how she was driven by this sense of purpose and ambition. And the message at the end about not giving up on your dreams is so true! 💖

just watched this new selena doco on netflix 📺💖 its so emotional, they're showin all these rare vids from her fams archives lol its crazy how much her fam has been holdin onto that stuff for so long 🤯 anyway, i think its really cool how the doc highlights her dreams of becomin a fashion icon and usin her platform to bring ppl together. she was always somethin else, you know? 💪 what im most excited about is that theyre not just makin a nostalgia trip, but tryna keep her legacy alive and inspirin new ppl to chase their own dreams too 🌟

I'm so over this documentary being released on Netflix 🙄. Can't they just let us find it ourselves? I mean, I know we're all Selena fans and all, but do we really need another platform to consume our favorite artist's story again? 🤔 And what's with the emphasis on "intimate footage" and "rare archival videos"? Is that just a marketing gimmick or something?

I'm all for celebrating Selena's legacy, but can't we get past the hype and just enjoy her music for what it is? I mean, I've been listening to "Bidi Bidi Bom Bom" since I was 10 years old. Do I really need a documentary to appreciate its genius? 🎵 And have you seen the trailer? It's all sappy and emotional. Can't they just let us feel our emotions without resorting to dramatic music and flashing images of Selena as a teenager? 😐

🎬 just watched this doc about selena and i'm feeling so seen lol she was literally the ultimate entrepreneur, always chasing her dreams and trying to make a difference. like, 23 years old and already changing the game 🤯 it's crazy how much impact one person can have on their community and beyond. and you know what's even crazier? how her family is still holding onto all this footage from "the vault" lol 2 years of editing that stuff must've been a wild ride for the director 🎥 i love how the doc focuses on selena's voice and legacy, it feels so organic and authentic. can't wait to dive in and watch this thing with my friends! 👯

Man, I'm so hyped for this docu about Selena 🎉! I've grown up with her music, you know? It's crazy to think about how much she was into fashion and entrepreneurship before it was cool 😂. But what really gets me is how relatable she is - she was always chasing her dreams and speaking from the heart 💕. The fact that this docu focuses on showcasing her legacy as a symbol of Latino culture and bicultural identity is so important, you know? It's time we give Selena the respect she deserves 🙏. I'm definitely checking out this Netflix premiere - can't wait to see some fresh perspectives on our Queen Selena 👑.
