Investigation ongoing into body found in burning Bronx apartment

A 73-year-old woman's body was discovered in a smoldering apartment in the Bronx, sending shockwaves through her community. The grim discovery came when firefighters responded to a blaze on the top floor of a six-story building on Friday afternoon at around 3 P.M. Upon arriving at the scene, they found the lifeless body of an elderly woman, whose identity has yet to be revealed.

According to FDNY Deputy Chief Joseph Duggan, the elderly woman's death is not directly linked to the fire that ravaged her apartment. The Office of Chief Medical Examiner is leading the investigation into the cause and manner of her passing. However, officials have declined to comment further on the matter, citing their ongoing efforts.

As firefighters battled the flames, they were joined by police officers who responded to separate incidents in the building. A total of 170 personnel from the FDNY and EMS attended the scene, with nine individuals – three firefighters and four police officers – suffering minor injuries due to smoke inhalation.

Meanwhile, a fire department spokesperson has remained tight-lipped regarding the cause of the blaze, which began on the top floor before spreading into the building's cockloft. Fortunately, the fire was brought under control within three hours, saving potentially countless lives.

This is so devastating πŸ€•πŸš’πŸ’” the thought of anyone, especially an elderly person, losing their life in such a tragic way is just heart-wrenching 😒 it's amazing that the firefighters and police officers were able to respond quickly and bring the fire under control in just three hours πŸ’ͺ😌

πŸ€• this is so sad - 73 and still living alone in that apartment... hope she had someone looking out for her πŸš’ firefighters are heroes, but also can't bring back those who have passed away πŸ’” it's not right when investigations keep being kept under wraps... what really happened to the lady? was it an accident or a tragic event gone wrong? 🀐

just saw this news and its really scary to think about what happened to that 73 yr old lady... i mean, who loses their life in a fire like that?? it doesnt sound like its directly linked to the fire but still its so sad πŸ€•

i was thinking maybe it had something to do with the apartment she lived in or maybe she was just in the wrong place at the wrong time? idk. what i do know is that 170 people showed up to help put out that fire and save all those lives, which is awesome! πŸ™Œ its crazy how fast fires can spread too, like they were on the top floor before it even reached the rest of the building

anyway, lets just hope whoever finds out what happened to her lady gets some closure πŸ’”

πŸš’πŸ‘΅πŸ» 73 🀯... that's like, super sad and stuff πŸ€•. According to data from NYC Fire Department, fires in multi-story buildings have been increasing by 5% YoY since 2020 πŸ“ˆ. I'm not saying it's a direct correlation, but it's worth noting.

🚨 The Bronx is one of the hardest hit areas in NYC when it comes to fire-related incidents. In 2024 alone, there were 12 fires in the Bronx that resulted in civilian casualties πŸš’. We need more resources for emergency services ASAP πŸ’Έ.

The FDNY has a great track record, but they still respond to over 10,000 emergency calls per year ⏰. With an aging population like NYC's, it's crucial we prioritize preventative measures & fire safety education πŸ“š.

Stats say that between 2018-2022, the top cause of death in NYC was unintentional injuries, which includes fires 🀝. So, even if this is isolated, let's remember: fire safety is everyone's responsibility! πŸ’ͺ
