It now costs $3 to ride the subway and some New Yorkers are already angry

I'm so done with the MTA trying to pass off a 10-cent increase as some sort of victory . Newsflash: $3 fares don't equal world-class service . I've been riding these trains for years and it's still a joke. First, they're gonna start charging us per seat? Next thing you know, we'll be paying for the right to breathe in this stuffy subway car . Arun Lakshman is spot on - affordability isn't just about money, it's about dignity. If we can't trust the MTA to give us decent service at a reasonable price, what's the point? It feels like they're all bark and no bite .

I don't know... I mean, I kinda think that $3 fare is way too much... like, who can afford it? But at the same time, I'm all for the MTA trying to keep up with inflation and stuff... I guess what really gets my goat is when they say trains are running on time 83.7% of the time and people are still complaining . Like, come on! It's a decent rate, right? But then again, if I'm paying $3 to ride the subway, I better be getting top-notch service... no rats, no track work, no problem . And yeah, NJ Transit is way worse with their 15% hikes and all that... but still, it's not like we're gonna see any improvements around here anytime soon .

I don't get why they gotta keep increasing the fare . I mean, I know the subway is getting more crowded and the MTA needs to pay its bills, but come on... $3 is a lot of cash just to get from one side of Manhattan to the other . And it's not like they're even doing that great of a job with the service . I've seen rats on the train (like, literally) and the track work is always ongoing . It feels like they're just tacking on the fare hikes without actually improving anything . I think they need to find a better way to balance affordability with maintenance costs . And can we talk about how NJ Transit's hike was 15% last year? That's wild .
