James Van Der Beek to sell Dawson's Creek 'treasures' to pay for cancer treatment

Actor James Van Der Beek is putting his beloved Dawson's Creek memorabilia up for auction in a heart-wrenching bid to raise funds for cancer treatment. The 48-year-old star, known for his iconic role as Dawson Leery, has decided to part with cherished collectibles from his most memorable films and TV shows.

Among the prized items being sold are an outfit worn by Van Der Beek in the Dawson's Creek pilot episode and a hat featured in the 1999 film Varsity Blues. The collection will go under the hammer at Propstore's annual Winter Entertainment Memorabilia Live Auction, which runs from December 5 to 7.

This is not the first time Van Der Beek has sold memorabilia since revealing his colorectal cancer diagnosis late last year. Despite his optimistic outlook and continued work on various projects, including the movie Sidelined: The QB and Me and an episode of Walker, he acknowledges that selling these personal treasures is a difficult decision.

However, Van Der Beek sees this as an opportunity to give back to those who have supported him throughout his career. He stated, "While I have some nostalgia tugging at me as I part with these items, it feels good to be able to offer them through Propstore's auction to share with those who have supported my work over the years."

The steep costs of cancer treatment in the US are a stark reality that many people can't afford. According to AARP, average costs for individual patients run at $150,000. The National Cancer Institute estimated costs would reach roughly $209bn nationally in 2020.

By selling his cherished Dawson's Creek memorabilia, Van Der Beek is doing everything he can to share the burden of his treatment with others who have supported him throughout his career.

.. I remember watching Dawson's Creek when it first came out πŸ“Ί... and James Van Der Beek just became this iconic actor in my eyes 😊... now he's selling off some of his most precious stuff? that's so sad πŸ€•... but also super admirable πŸ™Œ... I mean, we've all been there with bills piling up from cancer treatment πŸ’Έ... $150k is crazy expensive πŸ€‘... but at the same time, it's nice to see someone in a tough spot still being willing to give back πŸ™... my grandma used to say that when life gives you lemons, make lemonade πŸ‹... I guess James Van Der Beek is doing his own version of that πŸ’ͺ... anyway, good luck with the auction, dude! 🀞

I FEEL SO BAD FOR JAMES VAN DER BEEK!!! HE'S BEEN OPEN ABOUT HIS CANCER DIAGNOSIS AND NOW HE'S SELLING OFF HIS MEMORABILIA TO RAISE MONEY FOR TREATMENT πŸ€•πŸ’” IT'S SUCH A TUG AT THE HEARTSTRINGS, YOU KNOW?! BUT AT THE SAME TIME, I RESPECT HIM FOR TRYING TO SHARE THE BURDEN WITH US ALL πŸ’– HE'S BEEN SO LOVABLE AS DAWSON LEERY ON DAWSON'S CREEK AND NOW HE'S SHOWING US THAT HE'S STILL A DOWN-TO-EARTH GUY WHO CARES ABOUT HIS FANS πŸ™

man this is crazy i feel bad for james van der beek he's been through so much already πŸ€• cancer is a total game changer and it's amazing that he's trying to give back by selling these collectibles. $150k is insane though what's going on with healthcare costs in the us? anyway, i'm glad james is being proactive and sharing his burden with others πŸ’ͺ

πŸ’” this is so sad and at the same time kinda amazing that James Van Der Beek is willing to sell off some of his most precious things to help pay for cancer treatment πŸ€‘. i mean, it's not like he's trying to be a charity case or anything, but at the same time it's just heartbreaking to see someone with so much talent having to deal with something as crappy as cancer πŸ’•. what's crazy is how expensive it can get - $150k+ for treatment? that's wild 🀯. anyway, i'm sure his fans will be all over this auction and help him out in any way they can πŸŽ‰

πŸ€‘ Um, I gotta say, I'm a bit skeptical about this whole thing... like, why now? I mean, Van Der Beek's been dealing with cancer for almost a year and suddenly he's gotta sell off all these collectibles to raise funds? It feels kinda fishy. What's the real motive here? Is it really just to help out others or is there more to it? πŸ€”

And let's be real, $150k for individual patients is still super steep. I'm not saying Van Der Beek's being reckless or anything, but it's like, where's the transparency on this whole thing? What percentage of that money actually goes towards cancer treatment and what's left over? πŸ€‘

omg I'm literally shook by this 🀯 - James Van Der Beek selling his dawson's creek stuff is so sad but also super selfless ❀️ - it makes sense that he wants to give back after everything he's been through, cancer treatment is just so expensive and unfair πŸ’Έ - did you know that the average cost of cancer treatment in the US is like $150k?! 🀯 that's insane! I hope his auction brings in a lot of money for him 😊

"Believe you can and you're halfway there." πŸ’ͺ - Theodore Roosevelt

It's heartbreaking to see someone as talented as James Van Der Beek going through this struggle, but I'm really proud of him for using his platform to raise funds for cancer treatment. It takes a big person to be so selfless and generous, especially when it comes to something that can affect us all at some point in our lives.

Selling his memorabilia might not be the easiest decision, but it's clear that he wants to make a difference in the lives of those who have supported him over the years. We should all try to be as brave and selfless as James right now – after all, "the best way to predict your future is to create it" 🌟 - Abraham Lincoln

awww this is so sad I mean i loved dawson's creek as a kid lol what's up with the auction tho? is it gonna be super expensive or whatever? $150k for one person's cancer treatment is crazy i feel bad for james though he's always been so humble about his fame. i hope the auction raises a ton of cash and that he gets to finish treatment ASAP 🀞

Ugh, auctions for memorabilia? What's next, people paying top dollar for used tissues or something πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ? I mean, I get it, cancer treatment is expensive and all that, but can't we just use our collective savings to help out instead of buying overpriced trinkets? πŸ’Έ

And what's with the emotional manipulation? "Nostalgia" this, "giving back" that... it feels like a PR stunt to me πŸ€”. I'm all for people supporting each other, but can't we do it without making it into some kind of feel-good commercial?

I mean, what about all the actors who have sold their memorabilia before? Is Van Der Beek just trying to be a hero or something? πŸ’β€β™‚οΈ It's not like he's broke or anything. I guess when you're a famous actor with $150k+ cancer treatment costs to pay, selling your stuff off becomes a viable option πŸ€‘. Not sure if it's the right solution though...
