I think Jimmy Kimmel is just trying to poke fun at Trump in a lighthearted way. I mean, come on, a "crush" joke? It's all in good fun, but I can see why Trump might get annoyed. On the other hand, I feel bad for Kimmel because he has been getting roasted by Trump nonstop. 
Maybe this is him saying "enough is enough"? 
I guess what I'm trying to say is that both guys are just being themselves and not backing down, but in a world where insults fly left and right, you can't really expect everyone to be on the same page
