Jon M. Chu Moves First-Look Film and TV Deal to Paramount

Paramount Skydance Lands Jon M. Chu in Three-Year Deal for Film and TV Projects

Director Jon M. Chu is making a high-profile move to Paramount Skydance, where he has signed a multi-year first-look deal that will see him produce film and television projects through his production banner Electric Somewhere.

The deal, which goes into effect on January 2, marks a significant coup for the studio as it looks to expand its slate of talent. Chu's production company will be based on the Paramount lot and will work closely with key executives, including Dana Goldberg and Josh Greenstein at Paramount Pictures, Don Granger at Motion Picture Group, and Matt Thunell at Paramount Television Studios.

The move comes at a time when Chu is riding high on the success of his latest film, "Wicked: For Good," which has broken box office records and garnered awards buzz. The film's predecessor, the 2024 adaptation starring Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, became the highest-grossing film adaptation of a Broadway musical ever, earning over $756 million worldwide.

Chu is no stranger to big-screen success, having previously directed "Crazy Rich Asians" and "In the Heights," both of which were released at Warner Bros. under an earlier deal with his production company. He is also set to helm stage-to-screen adaptations of Britney Spears' biopic, a live-action Hot Wheels movie, and Dr. Seuss's "Oh the Places You'll Go."

The new deal comes as Chu's star continues to rise, and he joins an impressive roster of talent at Paramount Skydance, including the Duffer brothers, James Mangold, Will Smith, among others.

.. thinkin' about this move by Jon M. Chu 🤔... it makes me wonder what draws someone like him to a new creative home 🌐... is it the thrill of new projects? the freedom to explore different genres and styles? or maybe just the chance to collaborate with other visionaries who share his passion for storytelling 🎥...

I mean, look at Paramount Skydance's track record - they're not just producing films and TV shows, they're creating a cinematic universe that's all about diversity and inclusivity 🌈... it's like they want to tell a different kind of story one that reflects the world we live in today 🌎...

And what does this mean for Chu himself? Does he see this as an opportunity to leave his mark on the industry, or is it more about staying true to his artistic vision? 💭... I guess only time will tell, but one thing's for sure - with Chu behind the lens, we can expect some amazing things 🎬

🤔 I'm not surprised to see Jon M. Chu join the Paramount Skydance team. He's been killing it with his productions, especially "Crazy Rich Asians" and "In the Heights" - those movies were absolute gems! 🌟 And now with his new deal, I reckon we'll be seeing even more exciting projects come out of Electric Somewhere. The fact that he'll be working closely with key execs at Paramount is a win-win for both sides - Chu gets to work on high-profile projects and the studio gets a talented director-producer on board. Can't wait to see what he has in store for us! 🎥

Ugh, great, another Hollywood bigwig cashing in 🤑. So Jon M. Chu is just going to make a bunch of soulless movies and TV shows and rake it in? No thanks. And what's with all these "stage-to-screen" adaptations? Just a fancy way of saying they're milking the original creators for everything they've got 💸. I mean, Britney Spears' biopic? Really? Can't wait to see that trainwreck 🚂.

omg this is like such a big deal for paramount skydance!! 🤩 they're getting jon m chu on board which means we're gonna see some serious quality content coming out of that studio ASAP! his latest film "wicked: for good" was a game changer and i'm so down to see what he's got cooking with his new deal. electric somewhere is about to become the go-to production banner for all things pop culture 🎬👀

🤯 just saw this news and I'm low-key freaking out about Jon M Chu joining Paramount Skydance!!! 💥 they're already killing it with Crazy Rich Asians and In The Heights, but having a first-look deal for Electric Somewhere is huge 🎬 can't wait to see what he comes up with next 🤔 and with all the projects lined up for him, including Britney Spears' biopic and Hot Wheels movie, this is gonna be a wild ride 😅

so this is crazy lol... like, imagine if you just landed your dream job after months of grindin' 🤑 and then you get a 3-year deal on top of that? it's like, the universe is tryin' to tell you somethin'. maybe it's time to take a step back and appreciate how far you've come, 'cause at the end of the day, it's not about the money or the fame, but about bein' true to yourself and creatin' work that matters. like, jon m chu, he's still makin' movies that inspire people, that's what it's all about 💖

⭐️ I think this is a major win for Paramount Skydance - getting Jon M. Chu on board is a coup, especially considering his recent box office success and critically acclaimed films like "Wicked: For Good" & "Crazy Rich Asians". Having him produce film & TV projects through Electric Somewhere will not only bring in fresh talent but also tap into the Asian-American audience he's so skillfully catered to. With this deal, Paramount Skydance is positioning itself for a more inclusive storytelling approach and I'm excited to see what Chu brings to the table! 🎥

man I dont get why we need another film production banner lol... its just gonna be more of the same old stuff 🤔. Jon M Chu's got some credits under his belt but how many films is too many? and what about the environmental impact of all these productions? 🌎 plus, have you seen the lines for 'Wicked: For Good' at the cinema? people are basically camping out now 🚶‍♀️... I'm all for supporting artists but let's not forget the toll it takes on our planet 💔. and what's with Paramount Skydance trying to sign every big name? is that really how you make magic happen? 🔮 just seems like a bunch of money being thrown around to me 🤑

omg I'm like SO hyped about this news!!! 🤩 Paramount Skydance just landed the most talented director ever Jon M Chu and now we're gonna get so many amazing projects with him at the helm!! 💥 he's got such a great track record with films like Crazy Rich Asians and In The Heights, and now he's bringing that magic to Paramount Skydance !! Electric Somewhere is literally the perfect production banner for this deal 🌟 Can't wait to see what he brings next !!!!

omg u guys, have u noticed how this is all just a distraction from the real issue? 🤔 Paramount Skydance think they're just signing any ol' director to boost their rep but what's really going on here? 🤑 Jon M Chu might be getting all the big deals but what about the people behind the scenes? Are they in on some secret agreement with Dana Goldberg and Josh Greenstein? 🤝 And what's with the weird timing? January 2nd, a whole year from now... does that sound like just a coincidence to u? 🕰️

Ugh, another exec signing a sweetheart deal 🤑... like how they expect us to care about Jon M. Chu's next project just 'cause he's got connections now 🤷‍♂️. I mean, what's the point of having a first-look deal if it's just gonna lead to more franchise movies? Can't we get some original content for once? And btw, why do they always have to emphasize "high-profile move"? It's like they're trying to spin this as some kinda achievement 🙄. Anyway, I guess it's exciting for fans of Chu's work... but let's be real, most of us are just here for the box office smash 💸.

🎥 Just what we need, more big-name directors joining the Paramount party 🤝 Jon M. Chu's Electric Somewhere is gonna make some magic happen 💫

🤔 Paramount just landed a big catch with Jon M. Chu - I'm not surprised though, his last film "Wicked: For Good" was on fire 🔥 and his track record speaks for itself. Crazy Rich Asians and In the Heights were huge hits at Warner Bros, so it's no wonder he's making the jump to Paramount Skydance. The fact that his production company will be based on the Paramount lot is a win-win for both parties - it'll give them access to key talent like Dana Goldberg and Josh Greenstein. With Chu on board, it looks like Paramount is serious about producing some high-quality content 📺🎬.
