Jorgen Strand Larsen to Crystal Palace: Wolves striker completes £48m transfer to Selhurst Park as Jean-Philippe Mateta stays

Crystal Palace have signed Wolves striker Jorgen Strand Larsen for a club-record £48m, marking the club's highest-ever summer transfer fee. The move brings an end to Larsen's 18-month spell at Molineux, during which he scored just one goal in the Premier League.

Larsen's transfer was announced despite a late attempt by Everton to sign him on Deadline Day, with the Toffees reportedly offering £20m plus £5m in add-ons. The deal has been confirmed as having gone through, with Palace paying a fixed fee of £43m for Larsen, who will join Jean-Philippe Mateta at Selhurst Park.

The move is seen as a significant coup for Palace, who have broken their transfer record twice this window following the purchase of Brennan Johnson from Tottenham Hotspur. Larsen's addition will be expected to strengthen Palace's attacking lineup, but he faces an uphill battle to regain his Premier League form after scoring just one goal in 18 months.

Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher believes that Larsen is a good player who has been unfairly marked down by this season's performances. He thinks that the Norwegian striker can play for a team in the middle of the league and notes that he scored 14 non-penalty goals last season, which takes some going.

However, Carragher also suggests that Mateta will start ahead of Larsen at Palace, citing the Frenchman's hold-up play as a major strength. He believes that Palace's system is geared towards playing with two number 10s rather than two strikers, and thinks that Mateta would be a handful to deal with on the pitch.

Meanwhile, Sky Sports News pundit James Savundra says that Mateta will remain at Palace despite AC Milan withdrawing their offer due to medical tests. The Frenchman was seeking a new challenge after an impressive spell at Palace over the last two seasons, but it appears he has won his fight to stay at Selhurst Park.

🤔 Crystal Palace just shattered their transfer record and I gotta say, £48m is a lot of dosh for someone who only scored 1 goal in 18 months 🤑. Now, I'm not saying Jorgen Strand Larsen isn't a good player, he's got skills and Jamie Carragher knows what he's talking about when it comes to this guy. The thing is, Palace have been trying to strengthen their attacking line for ages and they finally did it 💪. It'll be interesting to see how Larsen adapts to the team's system, especially with Mateta already having a spot in mind 🤝.

And on a side note, what happened with Everton offering £20m plus add-ons? Did they just throw their hands up or was there something more going on behind the scenes 🔍. Guess we'll have to wait and see how this new signing plays out for Palace 😊.

omg u guys!!! 😲 Crystal palace just broke there record for highest transfer fee eva! £48m for Jorgen Strand Larsen is INSANE 💸👀 i mean i know he didnt exactly set the world on fire at wolves but 14 non-penalty goals last season is still a decent number ⚽️ and sky sports pundit jamie carragher thinks hes underrated 🤔 which i kinda agree with...but mateta starting ahead of him does sound like a bummer 😐 james savundra saying mateta will stay at palace tho makes me super happy ❤️ cant wait to see how this all plays out on the pitch ⚽

oh man i'm so hyped for this transfer lol crystal palace is on fire this summer and jorgen strand larsen seems like such a beast 🤩 his stats from last season are insane 14 non-penalty goals! he's definitely gonna be a game changer for palace, can't wait to see him in action with jean-philippe mateta too 👊 hopefully he'll get some chances to score and regain his premier league form 💪

I'm not sure about this one... 💔 Crystal Palace are spending way too much cash for this Jorgen Strand Larsen guy. £48m is insane! I mean, what's so special about him? He only scored one goal in 18 months and has been dropped by Wolves 🤦‍♂️. They must really think he's a game-changer... 😒 And what's up with the system at Palace, playing with two number 10s instead of two strikers? Sounds like they're trying to fit square pegs into round holes 🙄. I guess we'll just have to wait and see if Larsen can live up to the hype or if it's all just a massive waste of cash 💸

omg u guyz can u bliev crystal palace just smashed the transfer record lol 48 mil is insane for Jorgen Strand Larsen! i think jamie carragher got it rite tho, larsen is defo a talented player who's gotten a bad rap this season 🤷‍♂️. but seriously, having mateta and larsen on the same team could b huge, they both need 2 find ther rythm lol. and yessss mateta will prob start ahead of larsen cuz of his hold-up play skills 😂. AC milan's loss is palace's gain tho! they got a beast in mateta 🤘

This £48m transfer fee is crazy 😲. Crystal Palace must be confident they can turn Larsen's career around. I mean, 14 non-penalty goals last season isn't bad. But, you know, it's all about consistency and scoring in the Prem 🏆. I'm intrigued by this two-striker system Carragher mentioned - will Mateta and Larsen work together or is it a one-man show at Palace? Either way, it's gonna be interesting to watch how this plays out 👀💬

🤔 Crystal Palace just spent £48m on Jorgen Strand Larsen 🤑 like what were they thinking? One goal in 18 months is basically a ghosting record 😂, and I'm not sure even Jamie Carragher can save him now. The thing is, Mateta seems to be the real deal, all that hold-up play business is legit 🔒. If Palace's system really needs two number 10s then Larsen might just get pushed to the bench... and I don't blame them if they do 🙅‍♂️

I'm low-key hyped about this transfer move lol 🤩! Crystal Palace just broke their record and got a beast of a striker in Jorgen Strand Larsen 💪. I mean, the dude's got skills, only scoring one goal in 18 months ain't no fluke 🙅‍♂️. Jamie Carragher knows his stuff, he says Larsen can hold his own in mid-table teams and scored some decent goals last season 🔥.

But, what's with the drama around Mateta? 😩 I thought for sure AC Milan was gonna swoop him up, but I guess Palace won that battle 🏆. Carragher makes a good point about their system being geared towards two number 10s, so I'm curious to see how this all plays out on the pitch ⚽️. One thing's for sure, Palace just got a whole lot more interesting 💥!

I dont no how palace manage to get this guy Jorgen Strand Larsen for 48 million its a lot of dosh ! 🤑 I mean i think hes got some skills, Jamie Carragher was right about him being a good player who just needs a new start. But mate, Mateta is like a superhero on the pitch, his hold-up play is so sick! 🤯 Palace system is all about playing with two number 10s, thats what makes them so hard to beat. I dont think Larsen will score as many goals as he did last season but hes gonna try and make the best of it. And btw, cant believe AC Milan dropped out because of medical tests, like whats the point of even trying? 😂

I don't usually comment but I think Crystal Palace got a pretty good deal for Larsen. £48m is a lot of money and I'm not sure if anyone was going to match that offer. The fact that Everton tried to sign him on Deadline Day just shows how desperate they were for someone, which might say something about the quality of the options available.

I also think Jamie Carragher makes some good points about Larsen's abilities - 14 non-penalty goals last season is no joke! But at the same time, I do agree with him that Mateta will start ahead of him. Palace's system seems to be all about playing with two number 10s and I can see how that would favor Mateta.

I'm curious to see how Larsen adapts to Palace's style and whether he can find his form again. He was on fire last season but struggled this year, so it'll be interesting to see if he can get back to that level of performance. 🤔💪

The million-dollar question is, what's driving Crystal Palace to break the bank for Jorgen Strand Larsen? Is it desperation to catch up with the top-tier teams or a clever move to shore up their squad for the long haul? I think it's a bit of both. They're playing catch-up in the Premier League and need all the firepower they can get, but at the same time, they don't want to get caught out by other teams looking for value. It's a classic case of "be proactive or be left behind." 🤑

omg can't believe Crystal Palace just broke their transfer record 🤯 £48m is insane! 🤑 so what's the plan with Jorgen Strand Larsen now? I mean we know Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher thinks he's a good player, but does he have what it takes to score more than one goal in the Premier League again? 😂 and btw, Jean-Philippe Mateta staying put is super interesting - it's like Palace want to keep their French midfielder duo intact 🤝

Strand Larsen's move to Palace is pure robbery 💸 I mean, one goal in 18 months and they're shelling out £48m? 🤯 Still got to give credit to the Eagles for getting him on a decent deal though 👍

I'm not sure what's going on with Crystal Palace's transfer policy right now... they seem to be splashing out big bucks for strikers who aren't exactly lighting up the Premier League 🤷‍♂️💸, like Jorgen Strand Larsen. £48m is a crazy amount of money! I mean, if Carragher thinks he's good enough to play with Palace, maybe they should give him more time on the pitch and not bench him straight away 😐.

I'm also confused about Mateta being ahead of Larsen in the pecking order... surely that's just going to waste £48m? 🤔 I don't get why Palace can't see their own talent, like Jean-Philippe Mateta, and build around it instead of shelling out big bucks for someone who's struggling to score goals 💭.

Guess we'll just have to wait and see how it all plays out in the next few weeks ⏰. Maybe Larsen will turn his season around and become a top striker... or maybe not 🤷‍♂️.

I gotta say, Crystal Palace just pulled off this insane transfer move... 💥 £48m is a club record and they got a talented striker like Jorgen Strand Larsen in the process. It's crazy that Everton was close to signing him on Deadline Day for £20m + £5m in add-ons, but I guess Palace were willing to shell out the big bucks to get this deal done.

Now, I'm not surprised that Larsen is getting a lot of hype from Sky Sports pundits like Jamie Carragher. The guy has been unfairly maligned by his recent performances, and 14 non-penalty goals last season definitely take some going. But you gotta wonder if he's going to be able to regain his Premier League form at Palace.

One thing that interests me is how Larsen will fit into Palace's system with Mateta already there. Carragher makes a good point about the Frenchman being a great number 10, and I think it's likely that we'll see a lot of him starting on the pitch ahead of Larsen. Maybe this move isn't just about getting a new striker to score goals... maybe it's more about finding a balance in Palace's attacking lineup.

I'm also curious to see how Larsen adapts to life at Selhurst Park, and whether he can lead Palace into some big wins this season. With £48m backing him up, the sky's basically the limit for this guy! 💪

omg u guyz i think crystal palace got a solid deal signin jorgen strand larsen 4 £48m!!! i no hes not scored much goals in premier league 2 yrs ago but sky sports pundit jamie carragher thinks he can do better!! personally i think larsen has potential & will prob get more goals if he finds his rhythm @ palace. mateta tho is a big loss for arsenal lol but im glad he got to stay @ selhurst park & hopefully will still score some sick goals 4 palace 😂

I don't get why Crystal Palace paid so much money for this guy 🤔. He only scored 1 goal in 18 months, that's not exactly a great track record. And now they're saying he'll be strong in their attack, but I'm not convinced 😐. It seems like they've got another player who's gonna come in and try to fill the goalscoring void 🏃‍♂️. I mean, what if it doesn't work out? They just paid £48m for him! That's a lot of cash 💸

😂 I dont get why ppl think Jorgen Strand Larsen is so bad 🤷‍♂️ one goal in 18 months? that's not bad for a striker lol 😅 Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher thinks he can play for mid-table team and scored 14 non-penalty goals last season 🏆 which sounds like decent form to me 👍
