Kpop Demon Hunters' Korean food mukbang: From kimbap to ramyeon, but hold the kimchi

In the Netflix series "Kpop Demon Hunters," the secret to saving the world lies not only in having the right fighting gear but also in consuming an adequate amount of carbs. The show's director-writers, Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans, made sure that the characters' meals were as authentic as possible, even if it meant excluding a certain fermented Korean staple from the menu.

According to Kang, one rule was simply "no kimchi," as she wants to avoid clichรฉs associated with the popular Korean side dish. Instead, her team focused on lesser-known Korean foods, such as ice-cold noodles in beef broth (naengmyeon), ox-bone soup (seolleongtang), and sweet pancakes called hotteok.

The attention to detail paid off, as the animated food scenes are not only appetizing but also visually stunning. The art director, Celine Kim, created detailed paintings that served as a "bible" for the entire production team. From the shiny sesame oil on kimbap to the green and white speckled plastic plates used in casual restaurants, every aspect of the meals was carefully considered.

The authenticity of the food scenes also extended to how the characters ate their meals. Appelhans drew inspiration from his wife's Korean American background and incorporated elements like chugging kimbap like a hot dog or devouring large quantities of food without hesitation.

Overall, "Kpop Demon Hunters" demonstrates that even in an animated film, attention to detail can make all the difference. By incorporating authentic Korean foods and eating habits, the show creates an immersive experience for viewers that feels both familiar and fresh.

I don't usually comment but I think it's kinda cool how they went with those lesser-known Korean dishes instead of just using kimchi like everyone expected ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ. Naengmyeon in beef broth sounds super refreshing, and who wouldn't want to drink sesame oil straight from the bottle? ๐Ÿ˜‚ The attention to detail is insane โ€“ I mean, I've never seen anyone chug kimbap before, that's just ridiculous ๐Ÿคฃ but also kinda awesome. It shows they really wanted to get it right and make the food scenes feel authentic, which makes the whole show feel more immersive.

i love how they put so much thought into the food scenes ๐Ÿคฉ, but i have to wonder if it's just a bit too much? like, we get it, korean food is amazing, no kimchi isn't needed ๐Ÿ˜‚. it would've been cool to see some more variety in the characters' meals or even some creative liberties taken to make the food scenes feel more... animated? still, i appreciate how they're showcasing lesser-known dishes and eating habits โ€“ it's a nice nod to korean culture ๐Ÿ™.

Omg I'm literally drooling thinking about those naengmyeon scenes in "Kpop Demon Hunters" ๐Ÿœ๐Ÿ‘€ The way they included lesser-known Korean foods like seolleongtang and hotteok is so cool, it's not just all kimchi and bibimbap like you'd expect from a K-drama ๐Ÿ˜‚ And can we talk about how detailed the art direction is? I mean, those little sesame oil drops on kimbap are everything ๐Ÿ’โ€โ™€๏ธ

omg I just watched Kpop Demon Hunters and I'm still reeling from how realistic the food scenes are ๐Ÿคฏ I mean I've had naengmyeon before but never in a Netflix series! it's crazy how much detail went into making everything look so authentic... like who knew sesame oil even looked that shiny? ๐Ÿ˜‚

Wow ๐Ÿคฏ, I'm loving how they went all out on the food scenes! Who knew carb-loading was such a game-changer in saving the world? Interesting ๐Ÿ˜‚, I wonder what other creative choices they made to make the show feel super authentic. And omg, chugging kimbap like a hot dog is my new favorite thing ๐Ÿœ๐ŸŒฎ

I love how they included lesser-known Korean dishes like naengmyeon in the show! I've had my fair share of cold noodle soups on a hot summer day, it's literally the best thing ever ๐Ÿ˜‹. And omg, who hasn't chugged kimbap like a hot dog? My kid does that all the time when we're eating out and they don't want to stop for a sec! The show is so realistic, it made me feel like I was right there with the characters ๐Ÿคฃ.

OMG u guys! I'm so glad they included those lesser-known Korean dishes in the show ๐Ÿœ๐Ÿ‘Œ naengmyeon is literally my fave summer food ๐ŸŒž it's so refreshing! And omg chugging kimbap like a hot dog lolol that's so relatable ๐Ÿ˜‚ I wish they did more scenes with the characters eating at casual restaurants tho it would've made the show feel even more realistic ๐Ÿด๐Ÿ‘€

I'm loving how much thought went into creating those food scenes in Kpop Demon Hunters ๐Ÿคฉ. I mean, who wouldn't want to see realistic Korean dishes like naengmyeon or hotteok on screen? It's great to see the team putting in effort to avoid clichรฉs and focus on lesser-known foods instead of just going with kimchi ๐Ÿฅ—. And I'm impressed by how they got the details right - from the sesame oil on kimbap to the way characters eat their meals without hesitation, it all adds up to a super immersive experience ๐Ÿ‘€. The attention to detail is seriously inspiring! ๐Ÿ˜Š

I'm loving how detailed they got with the food scenes ๐Ÿคฉ๐Ÿœ it's crazy how much research went into making sure everything was authentic, from the type of noodles to the way the characters ate their meals. It would've been easy to just go for some generic Korean stuff but instead they chose to get creative and show some lesser-known dishes like hotteok ๐Ÿฅž which is actually super yummy! However, I do think it's a bit weird that no kimchi was included - is it really necessary to exclude a staple like that? And what about the rest of the Korean food lovers out there who are gonna be disappointed by its absence ๐Ÿ˜’ still, overall the attention to detail in "Kpop Demon Hunters" is on point ๐Ÿ‘

๐Ÿค“ I think it's really interesting how much emphasis was put on getting the food scenes right. I mean, it's not just about making sure everything looks visually appealing, but also about capturing the essence of Korean culture. The attention to detail in recreating lesser-known dishes like naengmyeon and seolleongtang is impressive. It's almost as if the team wanted to transport viewers to a different world. And I love how the characters' eating habits were incorporated into the show, it makes you feel like you're right there with them. The inclusion of these details might seem small, but trust me, it adds up and creates an immersive experience for the viewer.

I'm intrigued by this show but I gotta ask, did they actually consult with actual Korean people or just take creative liberties? The idea of no kimchi seems a bit weird considering how much it's a staple in Korean cuisine... ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿœ I mean, I've had naengmyeon before and it's delicious, but excluding kimchi from the show's menu feels like a missed opportunity. Did they have any Korean food experts on set to help with the authenticity?

I gotta say, I'm so impressed with how they got the food scenes in "Kpop Demon Hunters" right! I mean, who knew there was more to kimbap than just the usual suspects? ๐Ÿ˜‚ The attention to detail is insane - from the sesame oil on kimbap to the chugging kimbap like a hot dog (lol, that's my fave!) . It's amazing how much thought went into making the meals feel authentic and immersive. And I love how they didn't just stick to kimchi either, which can be super clichรฉ. The use of lesser-known Korean foods like naengmyeon and seolleongtang is what really takes it to the next level! ๐Ÿ‘

๐Ÿค” it's crazy how much thought went into creating those food scenes, from the types of noodles used to the way the characters eat their meals... like, who knew chugging kimbap was a thing? ๐Ÿ˜‚ also, I love how they stuck to lesser-known Korean foods instead of just using kimchi and bibimbap. it's not often you see Korean cuisine represented so accurately in an animated show ๐Ÿ“บ

I'm obsessed with how they did the food scenes! They really went all out to make it feel real ๐Ÿคฉ. I mean, who wouldn't want to chug kimbap like a hot dog? And those paintings by Celine Kim are insane ๐Ÿ‘€. It's amazing how much detail they put into everything from the sesame oil to the plate designs. Now I'm craving naengmyeon all day ๐Ÿ˜‹!

omg I'm literally craving naengmyeon now lol what's up with how accurate they got it? I mean I've had seolleongtang at this one traditional restaurant in Seoul where my friends and I just lost our voices from singing along to the soup sounds ๐Ÿคฃ. And yeah, I've seen Korean dramas where the characters are all like "let me just chug kimbap while running away from monsters" - that's not how us Koreans eat lol.

I love how they focused on lesser-known foods too. I've had hotteok at a street food stall in Busan and it was literally the best thing I ever tasted. And can we talk about the attention to detail with the plastic plates? My mom has those exact same green and white speckled ones from when she was little ๐Ÿค—.

It's great that they consulted with people of Korean descent too. It shows that they put in the effort to get it right, even if it means excluding some popular dishes like kimchi ๐Ÿ˜‚. Overall, I'm so impressed by how immersive the show is - and now my stomach is growling like crazy ๐Ÿคค

omg i was totally obsessed with this episode of Kpop Demon Hunters, the food scenes were SO real!!! i loved how they didn't just go with your standard kimchi or bibimbap, they got creative with lesser-known dishes like naengmyeon and hotteok ๐Ÿคฉ. i also appreciated how the characters ate their meals, chugging kimbap like a hot dog lol. it's these little details that make the show feel so immersive and authentic. and can we talk about the art direction, those paintings were insane ๐Ÿ˜.

omg u gotta check this out!! so theres a new kpop anime out on netflix called "Kpop Demon Hunters" and its literally SO GOOD!!! first off, the food scenes are INSANE theyre so detailed u can practically smell the sesame oil on ur plate lol the director-writers went all out to make sure the korean dishes were accurate even if it meant leaving out kimchi which is pretty chill btw. i love how the art director made these super realistic paintings that served as a guide for the whole production team its like they really wanted to get it right. and can we talk about how the characters eat their meals?? chugging kimbap like a hot dog though lol this show is giving me all the kpop vibes but also feeling super authentic at the same time

๐Ÿค” I'm loving how they went all out with the Korean food scenes ๐Ÿœ๐Ÿ‘Œ but c'mon, no kimchi? ๐Ÿ˜‚ It's like they're not even trying to be authentic ๐Ÿ’โ€โ™€๏ธ. Still, I guess it's better than a bunch of clichรฉ kimchi shots ๐Ÿคฎ. The attention to detail is actually pretty impressive, especially with the little things like the sesame oil on kimbap ๐Ÿ’ง. And I gotta give props for the eating habits, chugging kimbap like a hot dog? ๐Ÿ˜‚ that's some next level stuff! ๐Ÿ‘

I mean, it's awesome how they went to so much trouble to get the food right ๐Ÿคฃ. I'm sure it was super tough to leave out kimchi though... like, who needs a real Korean experience without kimchi? Just kidding ( sort of). On a more serious note, kudos to the team for actually doing their research and not just relying on stereotypes. Naengmyeon is my go-to comfort food btw, have you tried it? ๐Ÿœ
