Battleship New Jersey Welcomes Nonprofits for Holiday Tree-Decorating Event
The historic Battleship New Jersey Museum and Memorial in Camden, New Jersey, kicked off its holiday season with a special event on Friday morning. Local nonprofits from South Jersey came together to decorate Christmas trees aboard the battleship, fostering a sense of community and connection among the organizations.
Representatives from local nonprofit groups such as Larc Norcross School, Inspira Health Foundation, Hopeworks, Bestwork Industries for the Blind, KB Foundation, Ronald McDonald House, CASA, and the Food Bank of South Jersey participated in the event. Children from Larc School also got involved in decorating the trees, which will remain on display throughout the holiday season.
The partnership between the battleship and local nonprofits highlights the ship's growing ties to the community. According to Patricia Egan Jones, a board member for both the Battleship New Jersey and Larc Norcross School, the event showcases the battleship's mission to educate young people about American history and the sacrifices made by those who served.
The event also provided an opportunity for nonprofits to share their work and impact with visitors. Shoes for Your Soul President Dawn Lewis said that being part of the event alongside her grandchildren felt special, as it allowed them to experience the battleship's holiday programming firsthand.
Representatives from other participating organizations expressed similar sentiments, including Janet Kotsakis, Chief People Officer of the Food Bank of South Jersey. She praised the battleship for its role in supporting local nonprofits and promoting community engagement.
The decorated trees will remain on display as part of the battleship's holiday programming, providing visitors with a chance to learn more about the nonprofits represented on board and their work across South Jersey.
