Grosse Pointe Park's Beloved Sports Bar Under New Ownership, Preservation of Community Spirit Emphasized
After decades of serving the community, Marge’s Bar in Grosse Pointe Park has a new owner. Charlie Brown, a Grosse Pointe native and restaurateur, purchased the bar from Jimmy DePuys, Marguerite "Marge" DePuys' son, last month. Marge's Bar, located at 15300 Mack Ave., is renowned for its hockey memorabilia-adorned walls and has been in operation since 1966.
Named after its original owner, the bar pays homage to the late Marguerite DePuys, who passed away in 2014 at the age of 85. Brown's goal in taking over the bar is to preserve the nostalgic atmosphere while incorporating thoughtful updates, ensuring that the spirit of Marge’s remains intact for future generations.
"I've always been a part of this community," says Brown. "Marge's has been where people gather after games, celebrate with friends, or just stop by for a familiar face. My goal is to keep that same essence alive while giving it a few updates."
As the new owner, Brown aims to honor the bar's rich history and stories while infusing it with his own vision. "This place has history, heart, and stories in every corner," he says. "I'm just thrilled to be a part of its next chapter."
