Grosse Pointe Park's Beloved Sports Bar Under New Ownership, Preservation of Community Spirit Emphasized

After decades of serving the community, Marge’s Bar in Grosse Pointe Park has a new owner. Charlie Brown, a Grosse Pointe native and restaurateur, purchased the bar from Jimmy DePuys, Marguerite "Marge" DePuys' son, last month. Marge's Bar, located at 15300 Mack Ave., is renowned for its hockey memorabilia-adorned walls and has been in operation since 1966.

Named after its original owner, the bar pays homage to the late Marguerite DePuys, who passed away in 2014 at the age of 85. Brown's goal in taking over the bar is to preserve the nostalgic atmosphere while incorporating thoughtful updates, ensuring that the spirit of Marge’s remains intact for future generations.

"I've always been a part of this community," says Brown. "Marge's has been where people gather after games, celebrate with friends, or just stop by for a familiar face. My goal is to keep that same essence alive while giving it a few updates."

As the new owner, Brown aims to honor the bar's rich history and stories while infusing it with his own vision. "This place has history, heart, and stories in every corner," he says. "I'm just thrilled to be a part of its next chapter."

just saw this Marge's Bar thingie 🤔, been a staple in Grosse Pointe Park for like forever. new owner Charlie Brown seems cool, really cares about keeping the community spirit alive ⚖️. nostalgic atmosphere is key, can imagine it's still got those hockey decorations up on the walls 🏒️. hope he updates the place without losing that retro vibe tho 😊. always sad when old faves change hands, but if anyone's gonna do it, Brown seems like the right guy 👍.

Wow 🤩 - I love that they're keeping all the nostalgic stuff and updates! It's like they're giving an old friend a makeover but still keeping their awesomeness 😊. I can already imagine the hockey fans having a blast there, reminiscing about old games while sipping on some cold brews... it's gonna be lit! 💥

so this is great news 🤩! i love how charlie brown is all about preserving the community spirit of marge's bar. it's clear that he wants to keep the nostalgic atmosphere intact, but also bring in some fresh ideas. hockey memorabilia on the walls is a great touch btw 🏒

i'm curious though, what kind of updates will charlie implement? will they be big changes or just little tweaks? and how do you think this new ownership will affect the daily life of the bar's regulars?

omg what's the point of keeping an old bar like that open when it's been around for decades? can't they just let it go and put up something new with better amenities 🤷‍♂️ it's not like people are gonna miss out on anything if Marge's Bar is "updated" - it'll just lose its nostalgic vibe, you know?

omg, i'm so stoked for Marge's Bar 🤩! charlie brown seems like the perfect owner, all about preserving that community spirit 💕. it's so cool that he wants to keep the nostalgic vibe going while adding some modern twists. can't wait to see what updates they have in store 📈. i'm sure it'll be just as cozy and welcoming for regulars as it was under jimmy depuys' ownership 😊. this place has definitely been a staple in grosse pointe park for decades, so fingers crossed brown brings the magic back 🔮
