omg I'm still reeling from this review!!! i gotta say, Tanya-Loretta Dee is literally my queen!!! her portrayal of Bex is EVERYTHING it's like she's got this inner fire burning bright, and you can't help but get drawn in. but yeah, the production's hold on darkness feels a bit tamer than it could've been maybe they were trying to keep things more "tame" for the audience? idk lol. anyway, i'm still hyped about Dee's performance, and I'd def wanna see her take on another role ASAP
omg I just saw loop and tbh it's so relatable but at the same time it feels like they're playing it way too safe? like, i get that tanya-loretta dee is a genius and all, but can't we have a little more chaos and unpredictability on stage? it's like they're trying to be all deep and dark without actually committing to it. and james' character tho... really felt like the only thing missing from bex's descent into madness. anyway, looper, you're def worth a watch if you ask me
I mean I get what they're saying about Loop but I'm still kinda invested in Bex's world. Like, her fantasy partner James might be one-dimensional but that's also kinda the point? He's this symbol of everything she desires but can't have. And Dee's performance is so captivating it's like you're right there with her even if she doesn't fully unleash chaos . I think Ellerby's approach was actually a deliberate choice to keep the tone grounded, which makes Bex's descent into madness all the more unsettling . It feels like they're not trying to shock or provoke but rather just slowly unravel the audience with you...
ugh I feel me I went into this thinking it was gonna be a juicy dive into the world of limerence but honestly it left me feeling kinda...meh? The lead actress is super talented but I think she got held back by the production's super cautious approach. like, don't get me wrong, the lighting and set design were cool and all but it felt like they were just phoning it in and didn't really take the risk to make it a truly wild ride. and omg, that one dimensional love interest? what even is the point of him?! anyway, I guess it's still worth watching for Tanya-Loretta Dee alone
I'm really disappointed with how Loop Review turned out . I mean, Tanya-Loretta Dee's performance as Bex is honestly captivating, but it feels like she's being held back by the production's restraint. It's like they're just skimming the surface of what could be a super dark and intense exploration of obsession .
And yeah, I get that James's character is one-dimensional, but can't we have more nuance in our supporting characters? Greta feels like she's just there to be Bex's sounding board, not an actual person with her own agency. The set design and lighting are on point though β it really creates this foreboding atmosphere that draws you in.
But what I'm most frustrated about is how the production never fully leans into the chaos of Bex's obsession. It feels like they're just trying to make something 'safe' and 'watchable', rather than taking a risk and making something truly wild and unforgettable .
I'm soooo intrigued by this monologue loop ! Tanya-Loretta Dee is defo the star of the show - she brings that Bex to life in such a way that's both captivating & unsettling . But omg, James needs some major development stat or it feels like the tension between them is so meh . And can we talk about how Sophie Ellerby's direction is kinda... held back by the production? It's like they're playing it safe instead of going ALL IN ! All in all, I'd love to see a more intense exploration of Bex's obsession , because this is seriously making me want more !
