Madi Diaz Gives New Life to Blink-182's 'Enema of the State' as a Tribute to Immigrant Rights
In a bold move, singer-songwriter Madi Diaz has released a full album cover version of Blink-182's iconic record "Enema of the State", with all proceeds going towards supporting immigrants affected by ICE crackdowns under the Trump administration. The album, titled "Enema of the (Garden) State", marks a departure from her original intention to create a simple track-by-track cover.
Diaz explained that as she delved deeper into the project, the irony of covering a record with such a provocative title became apparent. The more time she spent with Blink-182's seminal work, the more it felt like the right moment to give it new life. "We started thinking about how incredible the name 'Enema of the State' is for a record," Diaz said. "How the title is somehow so current and politically culturally socially ironic... how ridiculous it is to cover this record in 2025 when it feels like we need to flush the system and give our whole government a health check/gut check."
All proceeds from the album's release will benefit the Defending Our Neighbors Fund, which aims to provide immigrants with immediate grants for trusted organizations to deploy legal advice and bond assistance. The fund is essential in addressing the growing concerns of ICE raids and false condemnations of hard-working American citizens and undocumented immigrants.
Diaz expressed her dedication to supporting those affected by these policies. "There is so much going on at this moment across America and so much pain with ICE raids and false condemnations of hard-working American citizens and undocumented immigrants," she said. "I may have been born on US soil but my family came from Danish and Peruvian immigrants. So much of The USA is populated by people who came from other places. There is a lot here we have to love and protect and nurture."
With her album release, Diaz has turned nostalgia into a powerful statement. By reimagining Blink-182's classic, she has given voice to the struggles faced by many immigrants. As she put it, "For me, it's about much more than a nostalgia for teenage rebellion against mom and dad. Fuck ICE. Enema Of The State Forever."
