Mamdani spoke of his aunt’s fear after 9/11. Backlash revealed how Islamophobia persists

🤔 I was listening to this speech by Zohran Mamdani and it reminded me of the times when people would stare at you weirdly if you were wearing a hijab back in college. It's crazy how much things have changed since 9/11, but it feels like not that much has actually changed in terms of Islamophobia. I mean, my grandma used to tell me stories about how some old women wouldn't let her friends visit because they thought she was "one of those" and now this is being talked about? It's wild.

I think Mamdani's speech brought back memories of the time when I saw a video of a group of girls in NYC being bullied for wearing headscarves at school. We were all like, "what's wrong with them?" Now we know that it's not just about what you're wearing, but about who you are as a person.

It's frustrating to see people making fun of Mamdani on social media instead of actually listening to what he has to say. I mean, if they can't handle the truth, then maybe they should be the ones staying off public transportation because they're afraid of being targeted 🚂

But seriously, I think this is a wake-up call for all of us to take a closer look at our own biases and prejudices. It's not just about Muslim women, it's about anyone who's different from us. We need to start having these conversations and working towards creating a more inclusive society. 💬

can u believe how bad it is out there? people still think it's ok to target muslim women just because of their hijab... i mean, come on, that's so not right 😩. I feel like zohran mamdani spoke the truth, sharing his personal story and all, and now ppl are gonna mock him online? what a waste of time 🤦‍♂️. we need more leaders like him who aren't afraid to speak out against injustice 💪. and btw, 500% increase in hate crimes since 9/11 is crazy 🚨... gotta keep pushing for change and awareness 👊.

OMG yaaas 🤩 I'm soooo hyped about Zohran Mamdani speaking out against Islamophobia! 🙌 It's like, we've known this for ages that Muslim women face so much harassment & abuse just cuz they wear hijabs or have Arabic names lol what even is wrong with people?! 😒 My heart goes out to all the Muslim women who have been through that, it's like, totally unacceptable and we need more ppl like Zohran speaking out against it. 🤝 I'm literally voting for him as mayor now, he's my dude! 💖
