so i'm thinkin' about dis cold snap and how its affectin people who are already strugglin... it's not just about throwin a bunch of warming centers open, we need to address the root causes of homelessness, ya know? like, what's bein done to provide affordable housing and job training programs? seems like we're just patchin up symptoms instead of fixin the disease
ugh i cant even imagine having to deal with temperatures that low in nyc its like theyre making people suffer for science lol mayor mamdani needs to step it up tho the warming centers r a good start but what about ppl who dont wanna go into shelters they need support and resources to get thru this without getting sick or worse i think the city should also be looking into ways to provide heat to ppl on the streets like portable heaters or even just hot water bottles its not rocket science but it sounds like theyre really trying so fingers crossed everyone stays safe

I'm all for keepin those vulnerable folks safe. But like, what's goin on with these homelessness stats? We gotta address that root issue or we'll just be dealin with more deaths like this. And btw, 65 new hotel shelter units? That's a start but we need more affordable options too
you know what's wild about this whole thing? how we're more worried about the cold outside than our own inner warmth. like, we got 10 below zero forecasted but what about the chill of loneliness, or the frost of fear that comes with not knowing where to turn? maybe instead of just building warming centers, we should be focusing on building community spaces that can keep us safe from the inside out
