A 66-year-old man has been arrested in Florida and charged with two counts of murder in connection to a decades-old case that had ties to the infamous Gilgo Beach serial murders. Andrew Dykes was taken into custody on Wednesday, facing charges for his role in the deaths of Tanya Jackson and her 2-year-old daughter Tatiana, whose bodies were found near Long Island's Gilgo Beach over two decades ago.
Tanya Jackson, a U.S. Army veteran, had been identified as "Peaches" due to a distinctive tattoo. Her daughter, Tatiana, was known as "Baby Doe". The women's remains were discovered in 2011, sparking speculation about whether they were connected to the serial killings that had taken place along Long Island's southern shore.
Long Island architect Rex Heuermann had been arrested and charged with several of the Gilgo Beach slayings in 2023, but has pleaded not guilty. Despite this, investigators have linked Dykes to Tatiana, whose last name is also believed to be his. It was his surname that helped authorities track him down.
Dykes did not enter a plea during his initial court appearance and is set to return to court next week as Nassau County seeks his extradition to New York, where the original murder charges were filed.
