Man attacks 40-year-old with baseball bat at NYC subway station, NYPD says

Man Attacks 40-Year-Old in NYC Subway Station with Baseball Bat, NYPD on the Hunt for Perpetrator

A violent attack unfolded at a busy NYC subway station last Thursday evening when a 40-year-old man was brutally struck multiple times in his face with a baseball bat by an unknown assailant. The incident occurred shortly before 6 p.m. in the Kingsbridge Road station, where two individuals were seen approaching each other. Witnesses described the scene as chaotic, with the suspect fleeing the scene on foot after leaving the victim in need of medical attention.

The victim was rushed to St. Barnabas Hospital and is reported to be in stable condition. Police are now searching for a man wearing a black jacket, brown hooded sweatshirt, green pants, and a black baseball cap. The motive behind the attack remains unclear at this time.

This incident follows another violent subway attack that took place earlier this week, when a 51-year-old man was stabbed multiple times on the B, D, and F lines in Lower Manhattan's Broadwayโ€“Lafayette Street station. The suspect is still wanted for questioning, described as approximately 6'4" with a black jacket, black hood, and blue or gray backpack.

NYPD officials are now also investigating a separate attack that occurred last week when a 15-year-old boy was slashed on his left hand by an assailant wielding a knife on a northbound E train in Queens. The suspect is believed to be wearing a black jacket and black face mask.

According to NYPD data, transit crime has seen an uptick of incidents so far this year, with over 136 reported cases as of January 25. However, major transit crime rates have dropped by 4% compared to the same period in 2024, marking one of the safest years on record.

OMG, this is getting crazy ๐Ÿคฏ! I mean, NYC subway stations are supposed to be safe, right? ๐Ÿ˜ž This attack is terrifying and the fact that it happened just a few days after another violent incident on the subway makes me super nervous ๐Ÿšซ. The description of the suspect sounds like something out of a movie, btw... I hope they catch him ASAP ๐Ÿ’จ. Can't believe there's been an uptick in transit crime this year, but it's good to hear that major transit crime rates are still relatively low ๐Ÿ™. We need more initiatives to keep our cities safe, especially at night when people are commuting ๐ŸŒƒ๐Ÿ’ก

๐Ÿค• This is just crazy! I mean, a baseball bat? Who does that? ๐Ÿ˜ฑ The NYPD needs to get this guy ASAP! It's just not right that there's been multiple violent attacks happening in the subway system already this year. ๐Ÿš‚๐Ÿ’ฅ And what's with all these suspicious guys wearing black jackets and masks? ๐Ÿค” Can't they see we're watching? ๐Ÿ‘€ It's like they think they can just waltz into a crowded train station and start causing chaos? No way, dude! ๐Ÿ˜ก We need to get back to feeling safe on our trains again. ๐Ÿ’•

Ugh, this is getting outta control! ๐Ÿคฏ๐Ÿ˜ฑ You got people walking around wields baseball bats & knives like they're nothing, and I'm over here trying to navigate these subways without becoming a statistic. 136 reported cases already? That's insane! ๐Ÿ˜ฉ But on the bright side, at least transit crime rates dropped by 4% compared to last year, so that's a silver lining ๐ŸŒŸ. We need to work together as a community to prevent these types of incidents from happening #NotAnymore #SaferSubways #TransitSecurityMatters

OMG, THIS IS SO SCARY!!! ๐Ÿคฏ I mean, a baseball bat? Like, what's next?! Someone gonna whip out their phone and start screaming "I'm watching you" while taking a selfie ๐Ÿ“ธ?! NYC subway stations are supposed to be safe spaces for everyone! I feel so bad for the guy who got attacked ๐Ÿ˜“. I just hope the police catch the guy ASAP and make sure he faces justice ๐Ÿ’ฅ. 136 cases of transit crime so far this year is way too many, but at least major transit rates dropped by 4% which is kinda cool ๐ŸŽ‰. We need more initiatives to keep our cities safe and welcoming for everyone! โค๏ธ

I'm really worried about these subway attacks ๐Ÿค•. I take the train all the time and it's just not right that people are getting hurt like this. The NYPD needs to do more to keep us safe. All these attacks happening in one week is crazy! 40 years old, stabbed or beaten with a baseball bat... it's just too much ๐Ÿ˜ฉ. We need better security measures on our trains, like more cameras and more police presence. I'm also worried about the kids getting hurt, that 15-year-old boy who got slashed on his hand was lucky to get medical attention fast ๐Ÿ™. Something needs to change!

ugh, NYC subway attack ๐Ÿค•... can't believe it happened again ๐Ÿšจ just last week there was another stabbing on the subway, and now this guy gets bashed with a baseball bat ๐Ÿ˜ฑ anyone got any idea what's going on? is it just a random act of violence or something more? NYPD should at least be doing more to keep our transit system safe...

this is getting really crazy on those subways ๐Ÿšจ๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™‚๏ธ i dont get why these attacks are happening with no apparent motive, just random violence... maybe we need more security cameras and stuff but also like, what can u do when its like 6 pm on a weekday and the train is packed? gotta respect the victims tho ๐Ÿ’” hope the guy in black jacket gets caught soon ๐Ÿ‘ฎ

This is just crazy... people attacking each other like that in public places? it's so not right ๐Ÿคฏ I mean, I know we're trying to solve some big problems with crime and all, but this kind of thing just makes me sad. can't we all just get along you know? and what's up with these guys wearing black hoodies and face masks? is that really gonna help them hide or something? ๐Ÿค” NYPD needs to catch the guy ASAP so people feel safe on their trains again

Man, what's goin' on with NYC subways lately? One attack after another and nobody knows who's behind it ๐Ÿคฏ. I remember when you could get a good game of hopscotch on the train without worryin', now it's all about watchin' your back ๐Ÿ™…โ€โ™‚๏ธ. 136 reported cases so far this year is still crazy low if you ask me, like we're lucky nothin's worse is happenin'. But you can't just ignore it and hope it goes away, the city needs to step up security on those trains somehow โš ๏ธ. Those two attacks earlier this week were freaky, stabbin' and baseball bat-wieldin', somethin' gotta change ๐Ÿ’”.

๐Ÿค• my heart goes out to that poor guy who got beat up on the subway ๐Ÿš‚๐Ÿ’” it's just so senseless and frightening to think about being a victim of violence like that in public ๐Ÿ˜ฌ and i'm not sure what's going on with these recent attacks, but hopefully they catch this guy soon and make our subways safer for everyone again ๐Ÿ™ 40 years old is way too young to be dealing with this kind of trauma, let's all wish him a speedy recovery ๐Ÿ’ช

๐Ÿค•๐Ÿ˜ž The fact that NYC subway stations are witnessing a rise in violent attacks is super concerning ๐Ÿšจ. I mean, who wants to feel threatened or attacked while just trying to get from point A to point B? ๐Ÿš‚ It's disheartening to see how quickly things escalated into physical altercations ๐Ÿ˜ค.

I'm all for increased security measures & more community outreach programs to address the root causes of these incidents ๐ŸŒŸ. But at the same time, it's also super important to acknowledge that transit crime rates are actually down overall ๐Ÿ“‰ โ€“ 4% drop is still a significant positive change! ๐Ÿ’ก So maybe we need to focus on finding that balance between keeping our communities safe & addressing the complexities behind these violent incidents? ๐Ÿ’ฌ

I'm really worried about what's going on in NYC right now ๐Ÿค•. These subway attacks are getting more and more brazen, and it's just not okay that people feel they can use violence like this to get attention or settle scores. I mean, a 40-year-old man almost loses his life with a baseball bat? It's just heartbreaking. And the fact that we're seeing these incidents back-to-back is just alarming ๐Ÿšจ. What's going on with our city's safety and security? We need better solutions than just throwing more cops at the problem or relying on surveillance footage to catch perpetrators. We need to get to the root of what's driving this kind of violence, whether it's mental health issues, poverty, or something else entirely ๐Ÿค”.

omg what's wrong with these people in nyc?? like literally can't even get along anymore ๐Ÿคฏ and it's so scary for everyone else stuck on the subway ๐Ÿš‚๐Ÿ˜ฑ i mean i know crime rates are down overall but 2 violent attacks already this week?!? that's just crazy ๐Ÿ˜… why do ppl resort to violence tho? ๐Ÿค” was it a random thing or did it have somethin to do with those other cases? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ anyway hope the victim recovers from that bat-thing ๐Ÿ’ฅ and btw has anyone else noticed how sketchy all these descriptions of the suspects sound like they were ripped straight outta a bad action movie ๐Ÿ˜‚

I'm like totally shocked that there's been multiple violent attacks on the subway this week ๐Ÿคฏ๐Ÿš‚... but at the same time, I think it's crazy that major transit crime rates have dropped by 4% compared to last year ๐Ÿ’”๐Ÿ˜ฌ... wait, what? That doesn't make sense if there are all these crazy attacks happening! Did the number of reported cases somehow magically decrease even though people are getting hurt? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ’ญ I'm not sure what's going on with the stats, but it seems like a total contradiction to me ๐Ÿค”...
