A young man has lost his life in a shocking daylight shooting on a suburban street in Sydney. The victim, believed to be in his early 20s, was found with multiple gunshot wounds and pronounced dead at the scene.
Police were called to Carinya Street in Blacktown after reports of a public place shooting around 11:50am on Friday. Supt Brendan Gorman, commander of Blacktown Police Area, confirmed that paramedics and police attempted to provide first aid but were unable to save the man.
The investigation is ongoing, with police attempting to stop a Mazda utility vehicle seen leaving the scene with two occupants in their teens and early 20s. A pursuit ensued, lasting around five minutes before ending in a crash on Kildare Road. Both occupants fled on foot and were arrested shortly after.
While police have taken two people into custody, no charges have been laid at this stage. The crime scene has been established, and the homicide squad is assisting with the investigation. Gorman assured the public that there was currently no ongoing threat but urged caution, advising people to avoid Blacktown CBD until further notice.
Gorman emphasized that the police were actively patrolling the area and encouraged anyone with information about suspects or potential witnesses to come forward. "We'll investigate anything," he said firmly.
